So touchwizzle has a thing where your ringtone will gradually get louder if the phone detects that it's going off in your pocket.
Does cyanogenmod have a way of doing this, either built-in or with an app/modification of some kind? Even without the whole proximity detection thing, just a gradually louder ring.
I rather wait for it to pop up on my device instead of sideloading it (which i have no idea how to do) or even unlock the bootloader.
You don't have to unlock your bootloader, it's simple to install, though if you wait to wait, to each their own. Still just gonna provide instructions to those who may not want to.
1) Download and install the Android SDK (even if you don't plan on doing this, I recommend just having this installed, you never know when it could be handy)
2) Download the update zip (for this case it's N7's 2012 from newest 4.3 build (JWR66Y) to 4.4 (KRT16O), check settings about phone/tablet to make sure your build)
3) Turn off your device, hold down the volume down button, then the power button, you'll enter bootloader mode
4) Use the volume buttons to select "Recovery Mode" and power to confirm
5) You will see an Android with a red exclamation point and nothing else. Press VolUp+Power together, then you'll see a menu. Use the volume buttons and power again to select "apply update from adb".
6) Connect your device to your PC, and open command prompt on Windows(I can't help you with Linux/Mac sorry). Open cmd the directory where you downloaded the update zip by in windows/file explorer, shift+right click on an empty space of lets say your Downloads folder and select Open command window here.
7) In command prompt type "adb devices". If you see your device and a port number all is good, if not, check if you installed the latest adb tools in the Android SDK.
8) Now you just sideload the file, type "adb sideload <insert full filename here>.zip" (In this case it would be "adb sideload 13088e35942c77e4752aa1fdf51d54472509b941.signed-nakasi-KRT16O-from-JWR66Y.13088e35.zip"). You'll see cmd say that it's sending the file (you'll see a shit ton of lines repeated, it's normal)
9) It will send the file, install on it's own, and once it finish select "reboot system now" and you're done. Congrats.
But yeah, if you wanna wait, just wait like a day or two, it's rolling out.

ascending ring tone in sound settings
I have one of those USB car chargers that you plug in to the cig lighter and attach whatever USB wire to charger whatever. My LG G2 literally loses charge when this happens (aka the car doesn't charge it in any way, drain is just as fast). Is this normal because of its huge battery?
So what are the differences between 4.3 and 4.4 besides it looking different and running smoother on the nexus 7 2013?
I traded my n4 for a note 2 right before the n5 was announced and I miss stock android so much. Should I wait for 4.4 to be a little more reliable on this version of the note before I root it and get a stock android rom? I just can't handle all this bloat. Seriously this thing came installed with 64 apps on it already.

Weak charger IMO. Needs to output more energy.

I have a really cheap car charger and it charges my G2 just fine.

Runs smoother on my Nexus 4 too.
- There's a ton of changes/support for future hardware that should help saving battery (starting sensors in batches = phone spends less time awake, longer audio playback thanks to some other change that I don't remember the name of)
- 4.4 should also run much better on lower-spec devices, as the official HW requirements have been dropped to 512MB RAM
- True fullscreen support for devices with on-screen buttons (called Immersive Mode). Allows apps to hide the status bar and navbar for things like reading books, watching movies or playing games. A swipe from the top/bottom edge or a tap on the screen reveals the bars again
- Lockscreen music seeking support (hold the play/pause button)
- Better management of location detection: You can see the last 3 apps that requested your location, and you can choose which location detection mode you want.
One Nexus 4 specific thing I noticed:
The phone now sleeps much better. On 4.3, it would often keep draining when the screen was off, now it's mostly a flat line in the battery graph again, even with location set to high accuracy. Praised be Google!
Also printing framework.
There's a bunch more stuff, I just mentioned the ones I remember from memory and the ones that I like/have a use for.

Now I very very need this for my Huawei Y300. The phone launched with 4.1. The latest update came with 4.1 too. I don't want to risk this phone, so I have to wait.
Sadly, I don't see many (or any at all) manufacturers updating their existing low or mid tier phones to KitKat. Custom ROM will be your best bet, IMO.
However, upcoming low-spec smartphones will benefit from this greatly.
Actually, I'm kinda sad that the Moto G didn't launch with 4.4. It has 1GB RAM, but on 4.2/4.3, that wasn't ideal (you could live with it, but it wasn't great).

I tapped it for like a minute straight and nothing happened.

So how do you get that new launcher on the tablet? The pretty one with the fading status bar?

It'll forever be known as Key Lime Pie in my head.
So how do you get that new launcher on the tablet? The pretty one with the fading status bar?
You need the latest Google Search update (it'll work with the older one, too, but the layout would be slightly broken) and the Google Home apk, both of which can be found here:

Install Search (Assuming you didn't get the update through Play Store already), then install the Google Home apk and tap the home button.

You can download it from AndroidPolice, take note that transparency will only work on the launcher, lockscreen will remain with black bars.
Damn, someone posted it first, that means i need to type faster on my phone.

Oh wow, I like how you can slide to the left to access Google Now like with iPhones now.

I bought this one at Target for $20, seemed to have no problem with my iPhone 4S.

Do you think I should try picking up another one at Target (or maybe just spending an extra $40 and getting one from Verizon itself?)
Last Monday I had my first day as a student assistant at university. I mainly help people to make their assignments. I answer questions etc.
This is where my tablet shone. I could draw out my explanation, I had prepared the assignments in advance with notes, drawings and shit like that.
Even though the tablet has meh specs, it's still really good. I will never buy a tablet without pen input. That is exactly what makes the Note 10.1 valuable.
I always thought Android tablets had absolutely no purpose (similar to iPads) but now that I have an Android phone again I can see just how open the Android app ecosystem is. It kinda makes me want to save for one

$40 sounds like a lot. I'm pretty sure I got mine from DealExtreme for < $10

I still don't get the point of tablets. When I need a lot of screen real estate I use my PC with 3*22'' monitors and when I need mobility I use my smartphone. I have a Playbook lying around, but in the two years that I have had it now I haven't used it more than twice other than playing around because "oh cool new gadget/toy".

I would agree if it weren't for the pen input.

I'm seriously in love with my Nexus 7.
The days of saying Android has no tablet apps is long gone, because of responsive design.

Honestly I would still get a Surface Pro 2 if I had the money, it has a pen and can run any Windows application I need.
[editline]16th November 2013[/editline]
That's my problem with tablets, even if the app ecosystem is huge it still isn't as open as a straight up desktop environment
I don't really have a use for a laptop since I got my Nexus 7. For portability and entertainment on the go I use my tablet; for actual work that requires a keyboard, mouse, and plenty of power I use my desktop. My laptop just gradually found its way into a dusty corner of my room because the tablet does convenience better and the desktop does power better while my laptop just tries to do both and falls short for my use-case.
