So I just ordered a Galaxy S3, I get it tomorrow. Could anyone reccomend a good case?
If you're cheap and willing to wait for some time, buying it off eBay will save you money. If you want it now, check out stores.
Apparently the nexus 7 2013 has it and it's annoying
I think I'm one of the few people here who hates Nexus devices because of all this stupid shit. MTP, no MicroSD, 8GB/16GB models, and the Nexus 4 didn't even have USB OTG unless you flash a new kernel and use a Y-cable. I'm not a conspiracy nut, but it really seems like Google is doing everything they can with the Nexus line to push cloud storage only (which is fine, only if you live in urban California).

MTP being horrible is the reason I self build CyanogenMod.
USB Mass Storage mode or go the fuck home.
When i gifted my friend a white 32gb nexus 5 i fell for the white one also so i bought one. It arrived two days later and i have a friend whos waited a week for his 32gb black lol.
Anyway, White one is good to go and Black one is reseting in this picture so i can gift it to another friend.
There are some rumors that it region or carrier locks when you pop in a sim, This isn't true. They don't lock at all. You could pop in an AT&T Sim then pop it out go to a sprint store and register it with Sprint seconds later if you wanted

Currently using MyWater.

Funny, I do a lot of things on the cloud. This evening I was typing some assignments using Google drive on a computer. Then my stupid Bell Internet broke and I couldn't save, download a copy or send emails and such. The assignment sheet was also uploaded onto Google drive and I wasn't able to access it.
Had to copy and paste onto word so I don't lose anything and had to call someone for help. They were like wtf why are you not using Skype? I had no Internet man.

Any way to get usb mass storage mode on a nexus 7 2013?
Microsoft designed it and was designed for media players not for general purpose file management.
I remember using an ADB based file manager that was pretty nice at one point. Can't remember what its called.
QtADB

not quite as glamorous as a Nexus but still feels good :v:

Pretty much everything has it at this point because it's the new standard for Android since like 4.0
It's better in a lot of ways than Mass Storage, for example the host OS can't fuck the files up, and you don't have to unmount and remount partitions if you want to write data to them over USB, and it's plug'n'play pretty much everywhere.

You are correct but MTP is still shit for handling files. We need some other protocol
How is it shit for handling files?
It's literally the same as Mass Storage, on Windows, except it hides the file system, so you can use something not shit like ext4, instead of having to have something that Windows understands, on your SD card.

For some reason it's crazy slow, and shits out a lot, things like folders randomly vanishing, "Access denied" errors everywhere, just being generally shit

im p sure thats the fault of window explorer
Sounds like Microsoft just sucks at implementing the protocol they fucking made.
It works fine for me on Linux.
I can't get it to work on Linux, but I'm probably just doing it wrong. I plug it in, the nexus 7 says it's connected but I get nothing on my netbook side. Haven't tried it with windows yet.

You're just REALLY DAMN lucky.
Those with OSX are fucked even harder.
MTP should just go into a swamp and then just die already.

Depends on distro, there's one specific thing you need in order for shit to be easy plug'n'play, and it's only shipping in the latest mainstream shit (Fedora, Ubuntu, Linux Mint etc.) by default, if I remember correctly.
Pretty sure it's a pain in the ass in Ubuntu 12.04, should probably move out of such an old release already.
I saw this morning the Humble Bundle for Mobile got updated, with this

Yeah but 12.04 is an LTS and I hate upgrading distros, so I'm gonna sit on it like a stubborn mule until it falls out of support.
Then jump to the next LTS and... sit.
Fuck MTP, fuck it with a hot iron.
You know what I want?
The opposite of Sixaxis controller, instead of mapping a gamepad's controls to an onscreen touch, I want to overlay a virtual gamepad onto anything, and have that mapped to a gamepad input
So many games with shitty onscreen controls, and I don't have a gamepad

Looks like GOTY to me
So, slideout QWERTY for emulation/use as a gamepad or... just use a gamepad?
Just a game pad would probably be easier
Yay, guess who's got the insane battery drain on their s4 after upgrading to 4.3? unplugged it this morning and an hour later from being in my pocket it's reading 89%. This is why people want to install custom roms so shit like this doesn't happen. I wish I wasn't shit scared of voiding my warranty/breaking my phone so I could do it...

pretty sure you can usually restore stock, remove root, relock bootloader if it was locked to begin with, and generally remove all traces of tampering with your device. if I end up bricking my device (done this twice) I do my best to remove all traces of me ever rooting it or tampering with the software, and they usually fix it for free.

Don't worry as much with rooting and such, theres plenty of tools out there that can completely wipe proof of software tampering from the device.
If you ever need to revert to stock you can download your firmware from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Theres also a program made by ChainFire called TriangleAway which resets the flash counter on your device so Samsung can't pick up on it if you need to return it with warranty.

Of course, since I use a service provider that's NOT listed on there. I'm buggered if I need to put back a stock rom, right?

Is the phone locked to a certain carrier or not?
