Wouldnt it be like $50 with $100 off at this point?
$150
Nexus 7 2012 finally updated to 4.4 just need the google experience launcher
flashing my S3 with a 4.3 ROM now. was waiting for that gay KNOX to be taken out.
The best part is that APQ8084 is 28HPM. Only MDM9x35 is 20nm.
I'm thinking of getting a Nexus 5, I live in Glasgow in the UK, currently I'm using the HTC desire HD, but it's starting to feel sluggish. I'm wondering if the N5 is the phone for me or if I should be looking at maybe an S4 or something similar?
Nexus 5 or LG G2.
Any reasons as to why?
The S4 is horrible and can drain it's battery with heavy use in like 8 hours, there doesn't seem to be any AOSP roms for it which aren't dreadfully buggy and broken and Touchwiz is impossibly bad. Well at least for the Sprint/CDMA version of it. While being rather specced out, it still seems to find ways through bugginess most likely to be as unsmooth as possible. Even with a 3000mah battery it just meeks out a days worth of use. While from a aesthetics standpoint the layout is pretty good, the screen is AMOLED, pretty great and neat. The build quality can be lacking, the camera isn't as good as everyone says, materials are cheap and doesn't give off the feel of what you paid for it. It's a great device on paper but unless you want to triple the width to get double the battery life or battery swap like some loosers insist is their god given right. It's far more device than the Desire HD but I decided to hold off past the S4/One gen as neither quite stood up to what I wanted from a $600 device. The LG G2 is essentially the next gen phones in spec, the S4/One are coming up to a year old and aren't quite worth their prices anymore. The S5/HTC whatever will of course up the spec past the G2 but the G2 is a half year leader in spec. I loved every part of the aesthetic, I loved the battery, I loved the hardware, I loved the rear buttons, I loved the camera and I actually liked the stock rom. I have both side by side and honestly I'd rather sell my LG G2 and use a brand new Desire Z that is a significantly less powerful phone that the Desire HD than downgrade to a Galaxy S4. The Nexus 5 is a Nexus device and matches to the G2 in system hardware but has a cheaper build quality, smaller screen, camera and battery but has QI charging. If you don't want either, just wait for late Q1/early Q2 2014 for the new flagships to roll out.
I have an S4 and don't have any of the issues you stated. It gets about two days battery and ROM is excellent using FoxHound (TouchWiz/AOSP merge). Camera is excellent except in the dark and the materials are fine (back cover is thin but the material itself is good).
I mean I'm not a big user of camera features, it's mostly apps and internet browsing. So I'd just like it to be snappy and light, that's what I've heard from the N5, plus the price point is really nice since it's a £300 but has specs comparable to phones that are like double it's price. Although I'm not sure if I'm just buying in to the hype that a colleague had for the phone. Like I said I'm sitting on a Desire HD, and I can start to feel its age. So I mean at this point almost anything would be an upgrade, but I would love battery life + speed when using apps and browsing the web. I'm not sure how ready Glasgow is for 4g so the 4g part of the phones wouldn't be able to be used till it's properly rolled out across Scotland.
Nexus 5 or LG G2.
A friend told me the battery life on LG G2 is god tier as opposed to the Nexus 5, also the camera is quite good, performance wise it is pretty much on par with the Nexus range Your only downside is LG Android uses this software manager garbage that can be hard to work

It's ugly and confusing as fuck. That and LG do not know how to update phones. The chance that the G2 will get 4.4 is minimal. The chance that it will get the Android version after that is pretty much zero.

Hey, how does 4.3+ handle multiple user accounts? If I switch through accounts, will the state and all of the apps from the previous user still active (so downloads, games, etc)? Would this affect the performance for every other user? How can I stop the other user accounts from using resources if I'm on the admin (owners) account if I wanted to?

[editline]28th November 2013[/editline] It's a huge screen and a pretty big phone but it uses every inch of available space instead of having a buffer of nothing between the screen and the edge. The buttons are where they are supposed to be and it has an absolutely huge battery.
Lots of apps on sale this weekend, AppSales is going to have fun.

I absolutely love the camera, but maybe that's just because I only have the SGSII's camera to compare it to. Performance wise I'm not entirely happy, considering the hardware this thing is packing it should make the SGSII look like a fucking snail, but in reality it's exactly as fast in day to day usage as my SGSII running CM11 nightlies. Some things are slower and some are faster, but most are pretty much the same. I assume as soon as I install an AOSP ROM performane will increase dramatically and even if not, I can absolutely live with that performance, the SGSII is by no means a slow phone.
I tried the G2 in the store. It's ugly and confusing as fuck. That and LG do not know how to update phones. The chance that the G2 will get 4.4 is minimal. I can't think of any flagship phone that didn't get two Android version updates. Also, since it shares a lot of hardware with the Nexus 5 I don't think the community will have any trouble getting new Android version running on it even past 4.5/5.0 when LG drops support.
Well from reading through this for a bit, I'm probably going to get a Nexus 5, I don't want to be fucking around with my phone all that much to try and manually put updates on it and deal with LG maybe dropping support for it. Plus the price point for the N5 is attractive as fuck.
but 4.4 has already been confirmed for this year and LG would be absolutely braindead to not update it to 4.5/5.0 after that.
Oh, they confirmed it for this year? Expect it halfway next year at best. The promise was made for the Optimus 3D to get ICS in the third quarter of 2012. Note: ICS was released in the fourth quarter of 2011, making the ICS release for their (at the time) flagship phone almost a year late. In December 2012 they said it's not going to happen. I believe ICS for the O3D was finally released March this year. The worst thing in my case was that Cyanogenmod and other AOSP ROMs all lacked the 3D functionality. Besides, the drivers were shite. When I called people, the people on the other end of the line heard terrible echoes. All because the only source code they had was from 2.3. You cannot trust LG to update their phones, and with a slight bit of bad luck it also affects drivers in AOSP based ROMs. It could be a proprietary driver in the camera, bluetooth, the phone, 4G or 3G etc. You could have them work in the current version, and break completely in the next version of Android because they don't have updated drivers. "Slap on an AOSP ROM" doesn't necessarily solve your problems. It certainly didn't for me.
So what does the Nexus 7 (2012) get when updated to 4.4? i have only noticed icon changes and the battery color went to white, instead of the blue it had before. and the new boot logo.

Apparently the battery life is amazing, people have been getting nearly 2 days out of it with moderate usage easily, with juice to spare. It's a fast little phone, and it's only, what, 150GBP, off-contract? I'm upgrading from a Desire HD myself to a 16GB Moto G. It also runs close to stock Android, so it's basically a cheap, consumer Nexus.

You can buy it on eBay from British people, but after currency conversion and profit margins it's over $300.

I think people should stop focusing on whether phones get the newest android or not, and think more about the features and hardware specs of the phone you want. I bought a Nexus 4 a year ago, and I have been very disappointed. Shit screen, shit build quality (it has creaked from day one, and the USB port broke half a year ago), absolutely shit camera hardware, even shittier camera software, horrible battery, lack of OTG, bad sound quality in calls and some more. I've always had the newest android in weeks after the announcement, but that has never outweighed the bad things about this phone, not in the slightest. My father's G3 have never had any of the problems I've had, though I have to admit touchwiz can be a little much sometimes and aosp flows faster. The nexus 5 has a lower price point than other phones at this time, and I absolutely understand that it is very attractive for that reason. But remember, you always get what you pay for to some degree. The N5 compared to the G2 has shitty battery (just like the N4 vs. OG), bad camera hardware (again), the same shitty aosp camera software and a (although not by much) worse screen. Long live the G2! I'd have one if I could afford one.
People could stop worrying about software updates if chipset and phone manufacturers actually supported their fucking devices and didn't EOL them a year after fucking release.

[T]http://i.imgur.com/iouoyxj.png[/t] This happens to my S4 every now and then. Android System hogs tons of battery when by all accounts it should be screen. Is there a way I can check this?
