Finally decided that instead of trying to give myself excuses as to why I shouldn't do it, I'm finally going to flash 4.4 on my 2012 Nexus 7 I've never updated past 4.2. The only problem is Chrome is being whiny and keeps cancelling the download due to network errors. Not only that, but it waits until after I've downloaded the entire file. Fun fun fun.
2013 Nexus 10 coming soon?
I don't know anyone with a Nexus 10 at all, I wonder if the new one is going to be any better.
2013 Nexus 10 coming soon?
LG apparently.
Holy fucking shit, Google Maps now tells me about public transport times in Queensland, my life of using the putrid Journey Planner is over I can finally go home without being lost
What's a good Android photo editor?
Snapseed?
Maybe something that will let you quickly edit and/or extensively edit. Separate apps are fine.
HSPA can deliver similar speeds to LTE, however, HSPA drains less battery than LTE. LTE is typically more expensive than HSPA, for both phone manufacturers and the phone networks, but, the carriers whack the prices up greatly so they can profit hugely from it.
LTE isn't even 4G yet, it is still 3G, 4G LTE is pretty much a huge scam of sorts.
Could someone enlighten me why are there people that are big advocates of LTE? I mean, I know it's a good concept but it just doesn't work out in a world where you have to pay a premium for it, have data caps, drains your battery and is fast as HSDPA
Most 4G frequencies have better penetration, also 4G handover is a TON better than in 3G, since 3G is basically norms stacked on top of norms on top of norms on top of...
(basically: no cutting when you switch between antennas as you move around)

Here in France, there was a pretty big announcement a few days ago
The same mobile ISP who offered an unlimited-everything plan for 20€ with 3GB fair use is now giving you 4G 20GB fair use — for the same price! No premium!
It's gonna be pretty funny because the other 3 big providers were starting to give 4G, but with the same data caps, and for an additional 10€ :v:
Yeah that's why I'm asking, I remember a lot of people back in 2012 complaining that the Nexus 4 didn't had LTE and they had no intention of buying it because of the lack of LTE, plus worldwide LTE bands are a mess, now seeing that Snapdragon is giving the 410 series (SoC for cheaphones) a 4G upgrade makes me remind of that
4G is a nice plus but by no means a deal breaker IMO
Updated to 4.4.2 on my nexus 5. Its unreal how loud the phone is now. I used to think my speaker was somewhat broke. Bet all the people who broke their devices trying to "fix" their quiet speakers feel like idiots now...
Also, does anyone know how do I enable transparent action/status bars in Kitkat? I've flashed 4.4 on my Kindle Fire but it's really annoying that they are not translucent in the home screen like the Nexus 5
The launcher needs to support it AFAIK, installing the latest nova launcher or using the GEL should do it.

What about all the people who said lte is faster than their home internet?

I have both GEL and Apex Beta, both gives me the same result :(
Hmm thats strange. My only guess now is that either the ROM you have flashed never added it, or its hardware related.

Fucking finally
I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I'm quite pleased with this Phone, especially since I've never had a top smartphone (HTC Hero, Galaxy S1 and Sony Xperia P). What is disturbing is the fact I can't root it because of the Knox e-fuse.
Who invented that anyway? I think its intrusive that warranty is void simply because we want something more from an already awesome device? Sucks big time.
Question, anyone managed to find a root method for the MJ7 revision of the N9005?

I'm confused, you say you bought an S3 then you post the ID for the Note 3.

I'm a tit. I meant to write Samsung Galaxy Note 3. What made me write that is beyond me... got to be the lack of Coffee.

My phone had the same issue. In my case is fixed by changing ro.config.low_ram in build.prop to false, but I don't know if that's your case. If you're desperate, try it.

It's faster than my dorm internet.
[editline]10th December 2013[/editline]
Also, Google Play edition of the LG G Pad 8.3 incoming.
What about all the people who said lte is faster than their home internet?
It use to be for me at least, but now since there are so many people on the network, I can never get a decent speed anymore.
What about all the people who said lte is faster than their home internet?
My friend had 5/0.5 MBits home internet. No ISP had any faster speeds where he lived, but then a mobile provider started offering LTE capable wifi routers combined with unlimited 4G internet for a cheaper monthly price. He gets 60/15MBits using that.
I remember hearing people using their unlimited 4G as their home internet replacement.

I'm on Rogers and can't get a straight answer about what the actual difference is between when my phone says 4G and when it says LTE. I'm on "4G" now and definitely not getting what anyone would consider to be 4G speeds (middle of the day I'm lucky to get 5 megabits out of it), so is it just a completely subjective thing and carriers call it whatever they want?
The only time I've seen the LTE indicator come up was in Calgary and I got about 70 megabits there

Where are you? Friends on Telus can get 30Mbps down on LTE no problem
Where are you? Friends on Telus can get 30Mbps down on LTE no problem
Right now I'm outside of Flin Flon, Manitoba so the tower is probably shit (only about 10,000 people within its coverage area). My phone does say "4G" though.
Plus, the actual antenna is on the opposite side of a smoke stack from where I'm currently sitting so all that steel and concrete is likely messing with it
Some first impressions on Nexus 5
Battery life is amazing compare to my old phone, i now dont use up 15% going to school listning to music, instead it drains 2%.
The back of the phone feels amazing compare to s3 plastic Shit.
Android 4.4.2 is so smoooth.
Only negative thing ive found is an HP printer app keeps reinstalling, Google keyboard has no suggestions at alot of apps that SwiftKey does. And last, the phone gets insanely hot when using it and charging at the same time.
Overall, insanely good phone for the price and I love it.

Oh god stop I'm still waiting for mine to ship :v:

That's just how SwiftKey does things, it identifies the input field and says fuck it, here have some predictions!
For using it and charging at the same time, every device does this. You're charging and discharging the battery at the same time. Charging it up already generates heat, using it at the same time just increases the heat and the time it takes to charge too.
the way LTE works on carrier unbranded devices:
2g - 2g
H - 3g or hspa+ (fauxg)
LTE - LTE
Received this last friday:

Extremely happy with it, flashed Android 4.4.2 on it since I didn't want to wait for the OTA, and the new camera app feels much better than the 4.4 one.
Got it on contract, but I'll have to wait for that to kick in until the 24th, because I wanted to keep my old phone number. It's going to feel weird having access to internet all the time.
Why is uploading onto Google's servers so slow, I'm on this fast of an Internet

And uploading onto Google+ photos is sooo slowww.
