So my second Nexus 4 has started experiencing the same problem my first one had (says charging over USB when its plugged into the mains and thus charges very slowly).
I am using the Offical N4 charger and Wire, and my N7 charges properly (says AC and charges fast) with the N4's charger, and both the same happens.
My N4 has never been unlocked or rooted, and thus is on stock ROM.
It's making the phone pratically unusable for me as I can put it on charge with 20% battery when I go to bed at 11PM and it's only at 75% buy 9AM. When I first got it would charge from 20% to 100% in not more than 3 hours.
Once it is charged however, it lasts just as long as it did when I got it.
Thus so, I'm going to try factory resetting, and if that doesn't work I'm going to have to buy a new phone..
Given I've had these issues with the N4, I don't know how I feel about going with LG again for the N5.
I guess the board will be totally different inside so if it's an inherit bug then it should be gone.
So, any suggestions for a phone that's at least somewhat of an upgrade from the N4 for an off-contract price ideally below £400?

Have you tried using a 10/12W charger?
Also a LG G2 or Nexus 5 fits in that price range.

Nexus 5?
I dont think I made it clear in my post, I'd like a non LG alternative. If I don't find one, then N5 or G2 is a go, but I'm not so sure.

No where would I get one of those? And also youd think a phone would be able to charge properly with the charger it came with.

Also, if I unplug and re plug the stock charger about 10 times, it eventually starts charging over AC.
Also it doesn't charge at all when actually plugged into the USB port of a computer.

Tablet or apple chargers are normally 10W.
Also search on how to calibrate your battery if that's still a thing.
I think it's actually a problem with the USB port on the phone or the daugterboard that it's on.
The phone doesn't show up when plugged into the computer (even though the phone displays the menu to select between PTP and MTP when connected).
The charging bolt appears, when connected to a PC, but it still says "Connect your charger" on low battery.
Also once when I plugged it into a laptop it played the hardware disconnect sound about once per second.
When it does decide to charge properly from it's own (or the N7's) charger, then it charges at a normal rate and lasts a normal amount of time so I don't think its a calibration problem.

Considering that's probably some kind of fancy touchwiz, it doesn't look half bad.
Now we just gotta hope the GS5 has a nav bar. It can happen I think.

Those buttons in the middle look completely unreachable and unintuitive.

I use Go SMS with a holo theme. Best SMS application I have found so far
I still wish that they would put the back button on the left, to me it makes more sense to be there since that's where the arrow is pointing, which indicates that back is left, so it makes sense for it to be on the left, if that made sense at all.

Sony has been doing that since forever
I want a phone that's all back buttons.
No screen, no power button, just back buttons.
The ultimate in customization - what back button will you press next?
Have a Tasker profile so pressing one would press them all at the same time.

Why won't Google Keyboard or SwiftKey predict offensive language even with the check box unchecked?

It will if you add them to your personal dictionary.

If I type "Fucking" my first suggestion is "FUCKIN G'DAY"
Swear enough and SwiftKey will figure it out

Definitely your port, the one on my Galaxy Nexus went bad too, could only charge it with a cheap charging cable, and it had to be in the exact right position... My N5 charges fully in about 8 hours from like 20-14% on my laptop.
I've been looking around, has anyone had any luck finding decent in-ear headphones with a three-button control? That aren't expensive as hell (<35USD). It's easy to find them for iPhones but sadly those don't work right with android. Saw some OEM ones but it sounds like they're pretty shoddy.
I had a nice pair of IEM's from Shure once, not sure how much they were since it was a gift, but the actual headphones were on a really short cable, so you could buy an extension that was compatible with whatever device you had. Try and look for stuff like that
Are we allowed to talk about rooting here? If so, I was just wondering on how to root my Samsung Galaxy SIII, with the MetroPCS carrier. I literally cannot find anything anywhere for it, and the ones I do, they mention getting the "drivers" for the phone, and I have no idea what they are, or where to get them. Any help is appreciated.

They're drivers just like what you have for any other peripheral for your computer. I think these are what you're looking for.
Edit: Just as additional clarification, the drivers basically tell your operating system how to interface with a select device.
