Is anyone else doing or has already done the Coursera course "Programming Mobile Applications for Android Handheld Systems"? It's being run by the University of Maryland.
It seems pretty cool so far from the first weeks video lectures.
Ah shit, T-Mobile will give me $3 for my Droid Bionic. Oh well. I'm going to jump ship off Verizon once my contract expires in May and go prepaid, probably on T-mobile. I'll miss my unlimited 4G though, shit's fast.
$20 gets you unlimited LTE, is your Verizon this fast?
Oh and here's some more wonderful T-Mobile LTE vs Residential Comcast on a speedtest server which isn't hosted by Comcast.

I'd give it 2-3 years before LTE networks trash the hell out of all residential physical connections in decently populated areas. I can't wait for cell providers to capitalize on offering proper high speed internet in Rural areas as well as building serious infrastructure into covering any sort of populated area.
Cable is dead and fiber isn't cost effective, I welcome Comcast having a fire lit under it's ass for becoming a cable monopoly.
That particular Comcast server gives me shit speeds. :v:
(it's the closest one)
[editline]22nd January 2014[/editline]
And I have Comcast internet.
My mobile connection beats the shit out of my home networks, both at my mum's and at my apartment (which is in Bergen) It's shit right now though ('cause I've gone over my limit, so I've been restricted)
I can't sell it since I'm still on contract with it, and T-Mobile would've payed the ETF to quit, but it's mandatory to trade in your phone for T-Mo to pay it off.
Eh, I'll just wait the 5-6 more months, the GNex has good support as it is.
Just say that you lost your phone when you switch
$20 gets you unlimited LTE, is your Verizon this fast?
Not anywhere close. 5-9 Mbps is closer to normal. Of course, I have Verizon GNex so that probably doesn't help due to crap radios.
Then again, I'm pulling those speeds in the middle of fucking nowhere. T-Mobile has next to no coverage here unless you live near the interstate or Sioux Falls. That's about it. Anyplace else is roaming or no signal period.
Here's the problem with LTE service replacing home cable or fiber networks: monopolies.
In the US, giving AT&T or Verizon the home internet market would not only give the big telcos control of both mobile and home internet, it would also strengthen monopolies in certain areas, just like how most areas in the US have only one or two options for cable/internet service.
This is something we need to be moving away from, and replacing fiber and cable with AT&T or Verizon LTE would be a big step in a very bad direction... These fuckers already own congress and the FCC, we don't neeed to remove what little competition there is between mobile and home ISPs (like comcast, time warner, etc) that also have their own collection of politicians in their pockets.

Also, fiber is more effective in boom areas where there's a ton of unused fiber left over from the 90's tech bubble. That's how Google is doing Google Fiber. They're buying up surplus fiber that's been in the ground since '99.

Wait, what plan gets unlimited LTE? The $30 plan only gets you 500 MB on LTE then it throttles you to 3G

Now only if that was in Canada...
I was messing around earlier with my Nexus 7 and 4, Google Auto Awesome truly made it awesome, Google auto Awesome did this...

Needs more video, locked focus, properly exposed image and dubstep.
I might be missing something here because I'm in the UK, but can't you just buy some £10 nokia brick and give them that as your trade-in?

'This is my every day phone I promise'
I think there's fine print to require it to be a smartphone of sorts
I think they're able to tell what phone is on your old contract too.
Wait, what plan gets unlimited LTE? The $30 plan only gets you 500 MB on LTE then it throttles you to 3G
Uhh, all of them? Unlimited data is a $20 option added onto your plan, if you're paying $10 for the 2 or 5gb already you can just upgrade to unlimited for another $10. So if you pay $50 a month you should get the Unlimited.
I actually had the Unlimited option a month or two before they rolled out the whole new plan structure, I've racked up 20gb+ and haven't been throttled. I don't see any fine print so everything points to it being true unlimited AFAIK.
I just checked, and 3 phones with unlimited data is $150.
Think I'm gonna go talk to them tomorrow.
This game looks rather interesting...

Does WiFi AP work?
So Go Launcher Prime is free now if you use the promo code "appsales", saving you $5 if Go Launcher is any good at all.

Got excited for a second, thought you said Nova Launcher

Oh I thought it was $20 total for unlimited data

I don't really see how go launcher is any better than Nova launcher.
Some got Nova launcher prime for 10 cents.
Go Launcher is really good in the way hitting your toenail with a hammer is good

It activates, not fully connected to it with another device yet though. I'll wait until my dad gets back from work and use his phone to connect to my AP, then I'll let you know.
Hmm, it looks like I can carrier unlock my phone earlier than I expected. As in I could have got it done a long time ago according to the CRTC’s Wireless Code.

What would you guys suggest as the best way to improve battery life on the Nexus 4? I've had the phone for almost 7 months now and am dissapointed that it can't last the whole school day (around 6 hrs) without having to be charged. I've tried different apps but should I root the phone and try those options?

Check for wakelocks and the like, use Greenify to disable apps syncing when they shouldn't...That's really all you can do, other than maybe trying out different kernels, underclocking, trying different CPU governors, etc... But that's a PITA.
Every time I try Greenify on my N4, I notice exactly zero battery life improvement, despite blocking the obvious apps such as Facebook through it. All it does is make Facebook load PAINFULLY slower.
I guess I'm already using my phone the "correct" way?
[editline]24th January 2014[/editline]
is it just me or did the Play Store servers just had a massive heart attack? Most of the Music library is unplayable and album art doesn't even show, Play Store doesn't load on my phone either.
