patents patents patents google got all of motomob's patents, which judging from the sale, they value at about 7-9billion dollars
http://googleblog.blogspot.ca/2014/01/lenovo-to-acquire-motorola-mobility.html
We acquired Motorola in 2012 to help supercharge the Android ecosystem by creating a stronger patent portfolio for Google and great smartphones for users. And on the intellectual property side, Motorola’s patents have helped create a level playing field, which is good news for all Android’s users and partners.
that reads like they'll still have a good business relationship, motorola phones will run almost stock, etc
that reads like they'll still have a good business relationship, motorola phones will run almost stock, etc
Although it doesn't stop them for bidding to be the next Nexus device
I'm witholding judgment until Kawasaki or Woodside says something. This shit is fishy as all hell. After the Samsung/Google licensing deal the other day, now Sammy gets all of Google's patents for 10 years, which includes this portfolio. How much is Sammy gonna rip off of the Motorola engineers' hard work? And another question, why in the HELL would Lenny pay nearly $3 Billion with a maw-lovvin' "B" for a relatively unpopular company that comes with NO PATENTS.

Is that worth 3 B's though? I mean, if Google retains the portfolio (which I'm sure has all the good stuff in it), what can Lenovo do but have Moto manufacture the same shit Lenovo's been offering in the mobile space. I mean, Lenovo can make a PC with the best of them, but their mobile offerings have been kinda shit. [editline]29th January 2014[/editline] Holy shit, Google kept R&D (which means they still own ARA). [editline]29th January 2014[/editline] I'm a little disgusted with Google right now. The timeline of the last couple weeks has been so sketchy. >First, they use 5% of their cash base to buy Nest ($3B). >Then they make an open patent licensing deal with Samsung for the next 10 years. >Then they trim the R&D and Patent portfolio (worth $7-9 Billion) off of Moto and sell the rest to Lenovo for nearly $3B, essentially making back the money from the Nest purchase. This whole thing feels so dirty.
I'm scared for the future of Motorola right now. They're doing REALLY well with the Moto G and the Moto X, and the 2013 Droid line... I hope Lenovo don't ruin it and just treat Motorola Mobility like Google did...just let them do their own thing.
Samsung are prepping to actually launch some Tizen phones soon too. Seemed like they were looking to finally move towards ditching android (and google) but now they've struck up this ten year plan? Would be crazy to try and get Tizen off the ground in the wake of that.

Does anyone knows a great CM11 theme? Im currently using Gem Flat because i think it fits KitKat alot.
Can't you just use bluetooth?
well yeah but you have to pair over USB before you can use it wirelessly I was able to do that (and used the USB OTG cable to do so) so I know the cable isn't faulty also discovered that only bluetooth tethering works on cyanogenmod with this phone, not wifi or USB about ready to go back to stock now

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but is it still forbidden to talk about the Facepunch Android App?
Opened Facebook a minute ago and it looked different to how it looked when I opened it this morning. Facebook doing sly updates around the Play Store is definitely not cool. Also means it probably used mobile data to do the update, which isn't the end of the world for me, but could potentially fuck someone over.

The facebook app is horrible, the desktop website is ugly (further justified that they can't stick to 1 design), and the only reason I use facebook is because of friends using it, although I know more people who can't be bothered with it anymore each day

Who'd like transparent system bars bars on the Steam app?
Who'd like transparent system bars bars on the Steam app?
make it happen
At least it's a little more holo now. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2016622/Screenshots/Screenshot_2014-01-30-17-24-20.png[/t]
I don't like these rumours of the Nexus line disappearing due to the Google/Samsung deal. If my next phone has to be expensive, or subsidized through a carrier, then it's going to be an iPhone. [editline]30th January 2014[/editline]
I was expecting it to pair via bluetooth..
Nah, they need to be connected via USB to pair with an actual PS3 for the first time too. It's just how the controllers work.
fuckfuckfuck my nexus 4 just turned off, wouldn't turn on, when I put it on the charger it flashed the red light a couple times and then I could boot it up. seems to be fine now but omg the battery was at like 2% but why the red light fjanhbjafgakdfbfdbaerh what is it telling me I'm terrified oh god

with the red light? that never happened before o.o
Nah, they need to be connected via USB to pair with an actual PS3 for the first time too. It's just how the controllers work.
So are you using the controller wirelessly after pairing via six axis app + root?
This isn't necessarily Android related but it is UI/UX related. If facebook really wanted to quit being crappy and actually make something people WANT to use, they would go to a tabbed structure rather than a single in-line news feed. Put Friends, Pages, and News in 3 different, visible tabs so that you can look through them separately. If you want to share something from Pages or News, it works the same way as it does now. That way, all the BS and Buzzfeed/Upworthy clickbait crap is hidden until you click on the "News" tab, and all the annoying "share this if you love jesus" stuff stays in "Pages." It would really clean up the feed and it would give people greater control of what they see. They could then fix their fugly app and update the tablet version to show the 3 tabs, rather than just stretching out the phone version.
