Android, the open OS* [sp]*but only this very specific version of the OS which we mandate (because fuck you)[/sp]

stuff
Why do GPe ROMS need S-Off? Cyanogenmod definitely doesn't.
To install this ROM, you will need S-OFF to install the new radios. Without S-OFF, you will end up in a nasty bootloop (yep, I tried on S-ON already).
Well I guess that's the answer. Flashing radios is dangerous, though. You don't want that to go wrong. The safest option is probably just to unlock and install an AOSP or Sense based ROM. Cyanogenmod has more features than GPe anyway. I still find it odd that GPe bootloops if it can't flash the radios.
why do people tell you only to check md5 sums when you download an os do downloads magically corrupt only when downloading them or something I always check them but I'm pretty sure the download would throw an error before it corrupted itself for no reason
I think its more so you can check that no one has uploaded a malicious file or something which you are then downloading
if some is able to fuck with the links to make them go to malicious files it stands to reason that they could probably also change the md5 sums too
if some is able to fuck with the links to make them go to malicious files it stands to reason that they could probably also change the md5 sums too
Not neccesairly. Take linux distributions for example, they usually host the downloads on mirror hosts but could have the official md5 on their site, meaning if 1 of the mirrors goes rogue you can check it

Holy shit, I just noticed CM11 is available for SGS2. I'm very tempted to install it despite my relatively gruesome experiences with transition from 10.1 to 10.2. Should I go for it?

Speaking of CM, is Paranoid Android a superior ROM? I remember back when I had the DX1 CM was the thing to get but I feel like that's not the case anymore.

I think I bootlooped my Nexus 7 like that one time, but I don't quite remember since it was a while ago.
Sweet is it any good?
For some reason it appears to be very laggy and broke many apps, just like the upgrade from 4.2 to 4.3. Currently I'm reading the official XDA topic in search of possible solutions.

Everyone with an HTC One, I will save you the potential shock of realizing you have an IR transmitter by telling you now. You can use it to control your TV. I just can't seem to find where the IR transmitter is on my phone, it's practically invisible.
It's the power button.
Holy shit, I wouldn't have guessed... [editline]2nd February 2014[/editline] It works from like...40ft away.
Damn it I just want to find a working version of CWM for the Note 2 and all the stuff I get on the xda dev site is a mess and doesn't work. Is there really no alternative site to xda?
You didn't do a full wipe between 4.3 and 4.4/CM11? AFAIK you're supposed to.
Yeah, this might be it. Also I noticed that the battery charge speed is significantly better, at least 40% faster than on 4.3.

I've had a mismatched MD5 on CM, but when I redownloaded it, it checked out fine. And for something as costly and important as your phone, I wouldn't risk it.

http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager Ctrl+F "Note 2" and pick your version

Luckily it didn't really matter because it can't do any permanent damage. Phone's on the other hand...
It seems OmniROM is becoming better in stability terms, than CM. At least for S3
Hurr. I'll flash system critical files and not check md5 sums or download from random sites.
You missed his point. He's saying that you could have a completely legitimate boot.img, and because of a simple typo, you could accidentally flash that to the hboot partition instead of the boot partition (h is right above b on a QWERTY keyboard).
and that's why you double check your fastboot commands before hitting enter
Well, maybe your cat comes along and steps on your enter key before you can check.
