Does anyone here have experience with init.d scripts? Say I want to set the camera mic gain to -20 using an init.d script (on a kernel that has faux sound), does this script look right?
#!/system/bin/sh echo "-20" > /sys/kernel/sound_control_3/gpl_cam_mic_gain
edit: nevermind, the correct setting would be:
#!/system/bin/sh echo "20" > /sys/kernel/sound_control/gpl_cam_mic_gain
(because the default value is 40, and the right directory is sound_control, not sound_control_3)
Yup, looks good to me (though I only have experience with bash scripting) [editline]12th February 2014[/editline]
IT...IS...DONE.. Nexus 5 is rooted time to try out xPosed. But first the update wall of doom i have never seen so many google play notifications in one status bar, you werent there man, you werent there. [editline]12th February 2014[/editline] Dang if i would've known how much fun it is to play around with xposed i would've never Left my N5 unrooted the flame of love to my N5 has been reignited.
I know, right? Did you download GravityBox yet? Try fullscreen caller photo (partial's best) and Expanded desktop with PIE controls, it makes it look about a million times better.
Yup, looks good to me (though I only have experience with bash scripting)
The second one works and makes the Nexus 4 considerably less shitty when it comes to recording video in a loud environment. (this xda user has comparison videos) However, setting it to 20 may be a bit too much, because recording in a silent environment will make the audio very silent (hard to hear people talking right next to the camera etc). Currently going with echo "30". I think I can recommend this tweak to all Nexus 4 users with a kernel that has Fauxsound tweaks built in.

I'll try the Using PIE controls i'll report back with my thoughts on them. [editline]12th February 2014[/editline] Actually why didnt give Good Guy Google us the other Battery Icons like Round with Percentage,KitKat with Percentage thats fucking Dumb man good thing GravityBox lets you switch the styles again. but they should really enable that by default. Im too lazy to always look into the quick settings for my damn percentage i mean even samsung lets you show the percentage why not google? [editline]12th February 2014[/editline] Ugh, PIE Controls are too awesome. i dont know how i lived without them the new screen real estate (its not much but its a start) you get is very awesome.
So the battery on my galaxy s3 goes down 1% literally every 3 minutes the screen is on, and that's with all power saving settings on + auto brightness. Is that normal?
Was this after you installed a new version of the Android OS? I went from 4.1.2 to 4.3 and my battery consumption tripled on my Note 2 until I had to reset it to factory settings and reinstall all my apps, which fixed the issue. Check if your battery usage has abnormally high consumption for Android OS. Also, does anyone have any good suggestions for optimization and ways to speed up a Galaxy Note 2? I noticed it's a bit slower then when I first got it a year ago (understandably from installing apps and files and such), but does anyone have ways to improve speed up the phone? Thank you.
LG G Pro 2 announced http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/02/12/lg-announces-the-g-pro-2-before-mwc-5-9-inch-1080p-lcd-snapdragon-800-android-4-4-13mp-camera-and-3gb-of-ram/ 4k video and HD 120fps
It says 120fps at HD resolution, not at 4k.
It's basically a Note 3 without the pen.
Phone was giving me choppy video recordings so I formatted the sd card, cleared the crap, issues are gone.

Seriously though, I might just wait for that to come out to replace my GNex.
It probably is using 720p resolution for the 120fps, maybe 1080p to get ahead of the iPhone 5S
It probably is using 720p resolution for the 120fps, maybe 1080p to get ahead of the iPhone 5S
Still, that's pretty cool. Although, in all honesty, pretty much everything about it is a huge leap forward from the GNex in general. Also, dat battery capacity.

Eh, PIE is kinda obsolete with immersive mode..
It's quicker to use PIE, though. You just have to swipe up and release, as opposed to swipe up and then press.
i hate anything like pie i think it's stupid
Why?
Apparently the CBC app for the Sochi olympics doesn't do full screen properly, on a friends n7 you still see the nav bars.
i hate anything like pie i think it's stupid
Most devices have extra pixels to accomidate for the nav bar. All you're doing when you switch to pie is hiding the three most used functions on your phone and adding a convuleted gesture so you can claim less than 1cm of screen space or a couple of pixels, giving you a weird resolution and distorted aspect ratio. [editline]13th February 2014[/editline] It's like hooking a starter motor up to the wheels of a car for MOAR POWAH.
That's my same excuse for using the old, fully expanded menu bars in Firefox compared to the new one like chrome's It saves literally 20 pixels, i'd rather sacrifice a gigantic ~2% of my screen space than stuffing common menus into a single button

(like, 720x1182 or something rather than 720x1280) But I don't care. I just use immersive mode when I don't need a navbar v:v:v [editline]13th February 2014[/editline]
It's quicker to use PIE, though. If I do it too slow or too fast it doesn't come up, which is quite annoying.

Books become more readable, I have more space for notes and it's nicer to browse. I have the pie (LMT launcher) on the right hand side of the screen only. One gesture I use VERY often nowadays is the "last app" one. It's Alt+tab, but then on android. ONE swype to switch from Papyrus to Amazon Kindle and back. It's at least twice as fast as the recent apps menu (because two clicks). LMT launcher to me is VERY useful.

You can also swipe to the left or the right of the screen to get the appropriate button (instead of swiping up, then left or right)

It almost never detects my swipes, I have to do it at just the right speed or it just scrolls the app behind it. Really irritating.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/h3y6TXB.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/fRxySeK.png[/t] The difference is 4 1/2 squares on screen or 5 squares on screen. These squares ain't small.
What is this "PIE"?

tbh I'm pretty snobby if I think an app needs immersive mode and the dev ignores my emails I'll just uninstall it. can't be arsed with xposed modules and roms for that stuff anymore.
After large amounts of editing, Connection Monitor Build 20 https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17823794/AppUpdate/Connection_Monitor.20.apk Allows monitoring of current connection status with notifications and optional overlay. Tapping the upper left of the box will turn on debug mode and tapping the lower right will show a larger status. If a orange bar appears then the app is out of date or it couldn't connect to Dropbox to check. And if it appears, tapping on it will direct you to a link to download the newest build.
For anyone with the white Nexus 5, how's the plastic back?
