If it enables photos to be refocused, cool feature.
I find it cooler that you can now have some sort of optical zoom. That was always the biggest flaw of phone cameras.
So I went to XDA to look for cool stuff I came back with this abomination [pics] Lots of banners generated from cooltext, which is just GIMP's logo generator :v: [pics] Icons from the first page of google images, more horrible wordart text, it's got the lot
It's like some hollywood hacking movie OS/skin or something.
Does ProCapture have any kind of manual focus setting?
you can tap somewhere to focus
I've been on an iPhone and debating about going back to Android. I don't want Samsung since their phones look ugly in both hardware and software, and the Knox thing sounds terrible. The newest htc phones look great but I've heard that lately htc phones are harder to root and install a custom rom on. Should I just go with a Nexus 5?

Knox is shit but not too bad on the S4, it will probably be heaps worse on the S5 since they revealed Knox 2. Yep, HTC phones can be a cunt to root/S-OFF. Nexus 5 is a decent phone but doesn't have an SD slot so you are pretty damn limited on internal storage. For every good thing a phone has, there is a bad thing. From what I can see, the Xperia Z2 might be worth having a look at.

Also, the phone is quite cheaper than other phones with similar specs. It's also the best phone when it comes to rooting, custom roms, etc. However it has a few flaws, for example it has no micro SD slot or removable batter, and the camera leaves a lot to be desired IMO. On the other hand, if you want a high-end phone with more features then you might get some other Android device. I personally think the new Sony Xperia Z2 which should be available some time in late March / early April looks quite promising. According to the specs, it has a great camera (looks like it might be the best camera on a smartphone to date), as well as many cool features such as noise-cancellation which will silence out any background noise when you're listening to music (this only works with the headphones that will come bundled with it though). Besides Nexus and Xperia, there are also other cool devices coming out this year such as the new Galaxy S5, the new HTC One which should also be released some time in March (though I heard it won't have a micro SD slot, which as I said makes it a no-go for me).
I'm coming from an iPhone so I don't really care about an SD card as long as the internal storage holds enough. htc makes my favorite phones but they lock their boot loaders. I think I'll go with a Nexus.

Anyone can do it. HTC's unlock thing is actually a really good thing. They don't want you to S-off your device, but they are totally OK with custom ROMs and root.
Samsung's lovely new hardware thing, supposed to be used for encryption and secured data or something If you try to unlock the bootloader to install a custom rom or flash an unsigned image, it triggers Knox, burns a tiny fuse in the phone and permanently voids your warranty
this post single handedly turned me off to ALL samsung mobile devices. i didn't like them before but this, shit this makes me hate them now. what if the phone glitches out and burns the fuse when i did nothing wrong? this is samsung i'm talking about here so don't pretend it couldn't happen.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.launcher Nexus and GPE master race only, go away potato peasant :v:
Works on my GS3 running CM11 I don't like how massive the icons are but hot damn that transition to search is so smooth
New G2 will be here tomorrow....... this one better not be broken too lol
Could wait for the next gen Moto X this summer.
Oh, I forgot about that. The building your own phone idea was great, can't wait to see what's new. I'll have to wait a few months since I don't have a job and won't until summer when I won't have to deal with school.
Could wait for the next gen Moto X this summer.
Is there another Moto X coming? Shit that's bad timing. My contract expires in May and I need to find a new phone. I was leaning toward the Moto X.
So guys, This is my first time posting in the android thread and I absolutely need some help. My dad got me this droid tablet for Christmas and this thing sucks. I have no idea what will work with this thing. I really want a custom ROM to make this thing run faster but I highly doubt anything supports this thing. The model number is Softwinern01. Its running 4.2.2 and the Kernel version is 3.0.8+ (xyuong@pfd-desktop #116) The build number for this thing is nuclear_pfdq88d-eng 4.2.2 JDQ39 20131107 test-keys. Anyone have any suggestions? Also, I just tried to install CyanogenMod with no avail. I am completely stuck aren't I?

It's got some random Allwinner single-core 1.2GHz CPU, with 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage apparently, and a 7" 800x480 TFT screen. My fucking phone wrecks that easily, and I'm using a Galaxy S2. The only thing you can really do is call your dad a retard.
Well i'm gonna try and get KitKat on in. Ill post back results. Never mind. Im fucked [editline]26th February 2014[/editline] Ok. I got this thing rooted and now I want to get ClockworkMod. unfortunately, I cant find anything. can someone here be a bad enough dude to help me?
Anyone here know a good KK rom for the original nexus 7? ive been rom hopping lately, but sticking with M-kernel 65. Right now im running the Mahdi rom, but have also tried TwistedKat, PSX, PA, CM, and random others such as carbon rom, and of course, "modded stock aosp". Just cant find a good balance between stability and eyecandy/performance. Loved TK, but navbar didnt work in landscape and dev moved to some "gtalk" shit or something instead of using the forums, so i have no way of knowing if the issues been fixed or wtf is going on. I also have a razr hd, rooted, but i got it too late in the game to unlock the bootloader :/

I looked at the official releases, and didn't spot a release for your device, so you're going to have to dig for an unofficial one. If there's no section for the device on XDA Developers, you're probably fucked.

Facepunch Textsecure chat would be cool, but I'm fairly sure I'd be the only person dumb enough to share my phone number, in this thread. My phone number's already fucking public, so.

Should I just go with a Nexus 5?
If you don't want a hassle and would like to immediately enjoy the benefits of a pure Android phone then I would suggest just getting the Nexus 5 or any GPE device. I have an HTC One from T-mobile so it came with the stock Sense interface and loaded with T-mobile apps and other bloatware. Like Kingo said they can be a bitch to achieve S-OFF which essentially allows you to install custom ROM's and whatnot. I converted mine to a Google Edition and now I receive Google's OTA updates, totally worth the pain it caused me. So yeah N5 or GPE devices if you want out of the box no frills functionality. The price premium is actually worth it because they come unlocked and you're not tied to a carrier with a contract or loan agreement (If you're using T-mobile and purchasing a phone through them by paying extra every month). ______________ Quick question, what emulators do you guys use for Gameboy Color? I've been dying to play some Pokemon games because I'm inspired by the whole twitch stream phenomenon.

Anyone knows a good app for blocking spam sms? Needs to have a word filter option because it's a different number every time
Does anyone have any tips for charging? My phone takes fucking hours to charge up fully. Is it best to use the standard usb cable or is there better versions you can buy?
I bought a PortaPow cable: http://www.portablepowersupplies.co.uk/portapow-fast-charge-micro-usb-cable/ And it sorted all of my charging problems, and it even charges fast when plugged into a computer. I am not shitting you this cable really made a difference.
