So, phones verified 100% dead after jumping into a pool, in the market for a new phone, had a Galaxy SII Skyrocket since launch. Looking for something new, android and fairly powerful with long battery but not overly ridiculous big like the note ideas/suggestions? upcoming things?
if you want the best of the best, Nexus 5 or LG G2. They are both quite big compared to the S2, though.
is the s5 any good?
is the s5 any good?
No.
The Z1 Compact is a nice moderately sized phone.
This. Had a play with it at a phone store last week and it is pretty solid in terms of build quality and performance.
No.
as useful as this comment all the disagrees are, whats so bad about the S5? and what's good about the others mentioned (the Nexus 5, LG G2, etc) I don't mind Touchwiz, and I'd probably just put something else on it
as useful as this comment all the disagrees are, whats so bad about the S5?
KNOX
The S5 is just the S4 with added gimmicks and a heftier pricetag.
Well it seems to be around the same price as the S4, I have AT&T so a 16GB S4 with a 2 year contract is 200 bucks, and speculation about S5 prices seem to be very similar to that. Specwise the S5 seems to beat pretty much everything on the market, so I'm still curious to know as to what are the best competitive points about the Nexus 5, S5, G2 and I guess the Z1? Also what is KNOX? I mean the Nexus 5 seems to have worse specs than the S5, and a smaller battery/no microsd card slot/non-removable cover
Specs at this point are meaningless. Any flagship released within the past year will perform the same as an S5 in everything but benchmarks.
I was almost finished with holofying Last.FM, then I realised that when you play music, the app crashes. This bug was brought when decompiling the app, I wish I had realised this when I started so I didn't waste hours on it. It was looking quite nice too. The battery life on the G2 looks very appealing, but what is the deal with the buttons on the back?
The battery life on the G2 looks very appealing, but what is the deal with the buttons on the back?
It's natural and where they belong.
It's natural and where they belong.
Thats not what I asked at all, what are the buttons for? I can't seem to find their purpose anywhere, are they zoom for the camera or scrolling or what?
The battery life on the G2 looks very appealing, but what is the deal with the buttons on the back?
It's how they allowed for such small bezels.
Thats not what I asked at all, what are the buttons for? My Nexus 5 and 7 are amazing on battery life. loving this. of course the custom ROM and everything helps that out.

Buying a Samsung, and model, at this point and time is a bad idea. Just go into your carrier store, play with a couple of phones and buy the one you like the most.

Yeah, there's that too. Their flavor of Android is woefully bloated by itself, and they bend over backwards to preinstall garbage carrier apps on your phone. So if you have a 16GB storage chip in your phone, that translates to like 13 GB free on any other phone, and like 10GB free on a Samsung.

My current Huawei Sonic has a small collection of apps bundled with the phone, but it's forgiven for one being the File Explorer which apk sharing built into it. Not present on other Gingerbread phones that my friends have
I just install custom debloated ROMs on my phone, but that should never make the stock bullshit okay. [editline]9th March 2014[/editline] Or rather, the fact that ROMs have to be shipped as "debloated" shows how fucked up the problem is.
My phone's an 8gb with 1.8gb usable :suicide: [sp]and the manufacturer/carrier rom has moving apps to sd card disabled[/sp] [editline]9th March 2014[/editline] Also, finally decided to go poke around in the file system and find out what's up with xposed That explains a lot [editline]9th March 2014[/editline] Hmm I wonder why xposed crashes when I try to view the logs :v:
I find it pretty surprising to see how loyal people are to Samsung. It's pretty often to see if they've had a Galaxy phone earlier or something, they'll upgrade to another Samsung phone later on.
My Verizon droid RAZR is supposed to have 16 GB, but only 8 is usable...even with a custom ROM.

Tonnes of developer support, more than enough performance, a fucking MicroSD slot, OLED screen because I like to use my phone in the dark. Only thing that I am not impressed with is rear facing mono speaker, KNOX (tries to prevent custom software like ROMs/kernels) and the internal storage size which frankly, I think 16GB is a fucking joke nowadays since I can buy 128GB MicroSDs.

You're glad that it has an SD card slot, yet you hate it has small internal storage? Surely that's why it has the SD card slot
