Is ART safe to use for the average user?
Yes.
Is ART safe to use for the average user?
If you're on a Nexus running stock, yes. I really wouldn't recommend it on a custom ROM, though. Last two times I tried it, it sent my phone into an unrecoverable bootloop when I updated OTA. [editline]30th April 2014[/editline] Basically, your mileage may vary. :v:

Worth pointing out that app sizes are generally larger using ART.
Is it worth getting a Nexus 5 for $50 through my carrier on a 2 year contract if I plan on staying with them for another 2 years anyway? It's still unlocked and not carrier-dependant on updates, right? Alternatively I could just get one on the Play Store and pop my current SIM card in it

Contracts tied to phones are usually shit.

Now you're still technically paying for the device per month. How much is the monthly plan rate? If you bring your own phone, most carriers give you 10 percent off your monthly bill. Also the carriers will over price the Nexus 5 to like $499 and make it seem more expensive, hence it would cost more for you to pay it off each month. Just look at the other phones that go for $350 off contract from the carrier. Notice how those are $0 while the same unlocked price (bought from Google or wherever) is $50? It's because the carriers overpriced the nexus 5 just to make contracts more attractive and at the same time cashing into the contract you sign. You're still technically paying off an overpriced Nexus 5 and technically loosing about $150 throughout the contract term. Alsl worth pointing out that the nexus 5 on carriers are almost always the 16GB black edition. No 32GB at all so if you want the 32GB you're out of luck buying it from the carrier. To me that's not worth it. It's more worth it only if the nexus 5 from the carrier costs the same off the google play store. The contract would still make some sort of profit per month either way.

Google recently released their standalone Google Doc and Sheet app. Although it's another app to install I find it pretty useful since I can write a document while looking at a spreadsheet without opening and closing it on Drive. Of course I could still use Quickoffice or office suite pro prior to the app releases. They probably would have did the split app thing like with Google+.

So $120 over two years plus the $50 upfront, still cheaper than getting it outright from Google. (Well, theoretically anyway - I know that the amount of savings they provide for bringing your own phone is less than what you'd pay to subsidize one) That said, you're right about it being the 16GB model. I'd rather the 32. I trust the Play Store version has all the same cell radios as the one I'd get from Rogers?

I have it on Rogers right now and it works, including (their free-ish) data. I'm not getting the 4G icon because my free data isn't served in 4G. That free data is basically checking My Account, occasionally using Yahoo OneSearch to check stocks, weather and news and browsing the Rogers website that is still somewhat broken as hell. There was one time when I turned on mobile data to check my usage after midnight and for some reason I was getting free data access on my potato last year. Speed tests gave me around 5Mbps down on hspa and my potato could only handle max 7.2Mbps. Both versions (north American and international) should pretty much work worldwide on the majority of carriers. [editline]1st May 2014[/editline] A while back a friend said he got free unlimited mobile data for a month because he bought a data day pass, used it all up and Rogers gave him a free month as an extended trial. I wonder if I can get this for the month of July or if this offer or promotion is still happening.
I don't use maps much but this is cool, apparently google maps show roadwork being done on different places in Stockholm (not sure if it's done that before) [t]http://i.imgur.com/r2EDYht.jpg[/t]

The roadwork/accident reporting got much better after Google bought Waze. BUT one thing that is fucking stupid about it, is that even if you plan a route that's going through a road that's closed because of roadwork, it still leads you right through that closed road. I mean come on, find a detour maybe?

FYI: its not purposeful obfuscation some people were seeing the module working fine on their device, so probably platform specific compiler settings
FYI: its not purposeful obfuscation some people were seeing the module working fine on their device, so probably platform specific compiler settings
java code doesnt vary across platforms. even if it does for some reason, they have no reason to obfuscate it on some platforms. im fairly sure hes referring to all class names being replaced to "a", "aa", "ab", etc by proguard. [editline]1st May 2014[/editline] as for some people still being able to use it, it is because google loves their staged rollouts. its working for me atm but probably not for long.
what i love the most about staged rollouts is that by the time they roll out for me i don't even have the device they were supposed to roll out for
