Someone I know is so mad at his S4, it lags so hard and he's pretty much tired of Samshit and their TouchJiz. He even says his iphone 4 is faster that the S4. Anyways he wants to flash a ROM, any recommendations?
you drag around a number you defined -- in my case, '8' -- to a position you defined to unlock the phone. the appeal is that no matter where you drag, all the numbers move, so i could unlock my phone on your face and you would have no idea what number i moved where. id say part of the appeal is that nobody understands what the christ im doing anyway so who cares.
It's a genius idea for security, but I can imagine being unable to find the number. In your first try you did search for the 8 for a bit. Otherwise great idea!

I think it's some Canadian one.

Can't you just look at ANY number in the lock screen while someone unlocks? It's a grid.
Squarepusher (The retroarch dev) posted some pretty sad stuff about people forking his work for profit
RetroArch is/was licensed under the GPL for pragmatic reasons. Had we known about the fact that app store ‘developers’ use the ‘GPL’ as a cloak for their illegitimate money racketeering ways by stating that the ‘GPL allows this’ – we probably would have thought twice about licensing it this way. I have seen two examples now over the past weeks of ‘forks’ of RetroArch being published littered with advertising and/or other unscrupulous money-making means. I entered their forums to tell them that I disapproved of this and that I didn’t want them to start generating revenue off ads in RetroArch. What followed was a callous treatment by some of the Crackberry guys that I had no right to deny them this ‘revenue stream’ and that this is what the GPL ‘allowed for’. The sad part about this is that the GPL indeed ‘allows’ for this. It is for that same reason that the GPL and the FLOSS community are frankly becoming ever-more toothless and undesirable by the way because the ‘mobile scene’ just sees it as an open letter to generating money off the work provided by others
http://www.libretro.com/index.php/retroarch-and-illegitimate-crippled-versions/ More of the post here I'm pretty annoyed at people doing this too, If I'm gonna pay $5 for a buggy source port, I want to be paying the guys who actually wrote it, not some freetard financing his next fedora collection
x-post from SH since I believe you all can lay this out pretty good for me and because its related to the Nexus 5:
If it's like the Nexus 4 (should be). It's not tied to a provider if you buy it directly from Google. Buy it on the Play store and slap a SIM in. Bam. Verizon.

Their LTE phones use a SIM card for LTE data, but voice calling and texting are still done through CDMA. You might be able to use LTE with a SIM and do calling and texting through data services, but then you wouldn't even be able to fall back to 3G. Verizon is planning to support voice-over-LTE, but your calls will drop if you go out of LTE coverage even with a supported Verizon phone.
As someone who has a Verizon SIM currently for 4G LTE, and not sure what all this CDMA/GSM talk means for me... could someone lay this out in laymans terms for the problems I could have with buying a Nexus 5 and slapping my 4G LTE SIM in it?

Well. fuck. Verizon needs to get its shit together.

Lots of GPL blaming. Pretty terrible.

GSM is pretty much the standard, except from Asia and 'Murica
Wow what is it with Android Hangouts dying?
Wow what is it with Android Hangouts dying?
we v3 now
Sigh. Just get me there.
Why do you idiots keep making more hangouts :v: At this rate there's gonna be more chats than thread versions
bother Gary if you want in. also v2 had like 70% inactive users
V3 inv when dammit
bother Gary if you want in. also v2 had like 70% inactive users
What's the point of making another chat then :v: Who cares if people aren't talking
Basically v3 was made because we had to do some spring cleaning. We had 50 people at one point, only 15 or so were active daily, 25 or so were active weekly and the rest either longer or never even came onto the chat. An average of an estimated 1000 messages and 15 photos were sent every day. Mobile users experienced a lot of battery drain too, I blame Hangouts on this one. People kept on complaining about the battery life in the past week. In addition, Hangouts on computer was kinda laggy because of the huge group. Therefor v3 was made for the sake of everyone's battery life and minimizing issues. v3 is for people who were already in v2, just fill in the form link messaged in v2.
I did, can I get in already.
Today a made a video! It's a quick overview of Paranoid Android Beta 4.3. I'm going to keep on doing videos because I enjoy it, but I'd still like your opinions on it. And did I cover and explain everything correctly?
Help, I'm going to go over my data cap if this continues. Android OS shows it has used 1gb of data this month on 4g and 4gb on wifi, what could cause this? I don't have pictures set up to upload on 4g [t]http://i.imgur.com/xPROycR.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/RbPBAfF.png[/t] [editline]11th May 2014[/editline] I do have location on (battery saving mode and not high precision) in case I need to locate it with cerberus but that's it.
hello i bought an S5 and love it so far. already removed all the bloatware and the phone is already so much better. touchwiz seriously doesn't bother me, i was used to it on the S2 for years and i'm used to it now on the S5 the only thing i don't like so far is that there isn't a lot of support for custom ROMs....but that's probably due to it being such a new phone

KNOX is giving them a hard time. XDA will get past it eventually but, still a pain in the ass since the phone already has it on it.
the device itself is locked down pretty good but even then, it took about a year and a half or so before any decent and stable CM ROMs came out for the S2, as well. i can foresee another, potentially longer, dev cycle. i'm just glad i roll with T-Mobile and have the opportunity to load my own bootloader anyway, even if i don't get a custom ROM i can still get root
