I always buy the larger size phone but rarely ever use more than 8GB.
I have 58.1GB, clocking in at 358 hours of music
Why? You're never going to listen to it all..
Why? You're never going to listen to it all..
This is where you're wrong, because I have music on almost all the time and in shuffle mode. I listen to everything. http://www.last.fm/user/maxofs2d

http://www.last.fm/user/maxofs2d
Why can't you just stream it? I feel like there's just no need to keep all 58.1GB on your device at all times. And I phrased that poorly; I meant you're never going to need all 358 hours all at once.
I'd just like a larger storage pool on my phone because of my job. I like to keep recovery images and Linux LiveUSBs on it (using DriveDroid) to boot from instead of hunting for the right CD or wiping my flash drive everytime I need to boot up Gparted Live. But with only 16GB (12GB usable due to the aforementioned system issue - I wonder why they don't put the system on separate internal storage?) of space it's a bit hard. Especially considering 5GB of that 12GB is going to my music. A MicroSD slot would solve this issue, but at a speed overhead + I wouldn't be able to use anything over 4GB (Persistant desktop is out in that case) due to being forced to use FAT32 unless I have a kernel compatible with exfat... I'd rather just have larger internal storage because A: it's fast and B: it has a non-shit filesystem. v:v:v [editline]20th May 2014[/editline]
Why can't you just stream it? I'd happily stream all my music from Google Play Music if I wouldn't hit my monthly data threshold in a week, but sadly after 5GB I get throttled to "3G" speeds. About 30 kb/s. Can barely browse the Internet on that. Plus when I'm upcountry the cell service is poor. Extremely poor.
Yeah, 30 kb/s is not 3G speeds. At all.
Why can't you just stream it?
Streaming will never be an interesting option until we get completely unlimited data plans with every single square inch of the earth having decent data coverage aka never
Which to be honest is why streaming services allow you to save music to your device.
how do you have 64gb of music
how don't you i don't have that much and i clock in at 182GB
now obviously my experience varies because i live in a major metropolitan zone i have never once had a problem with streaming music, and i'm on a 10 gig shared plan
I only have 9GB (464 songs) stored locally, rest goes over streaming. bad coverage? nearing monthly cap? 464 songs to fall back on, works great for me
Next week will be sad. I'm going to lose my unlimited 4G that I have through Verizon because my 2 year plan is up and it's too expensive to keep it. However it does mean that I can shift over to prepaid and get a new phone, probably the Moto X since I'll still stay with Verizon.
I don't know about you guys but Hera looks horrid. Also are there any Xposed modules that allow you to swap the default themeing on apps from Holo Light to Holo Dark/Black?
I like the more colorful Google branding, tbh. What I'm not sure about is the lack of a navigational drawer. Seems unnecessary to find a new navigation solution so soon after the slide-out drawer.

Lot's of people paying good money for such an unlimited plan. And until then, use it for everything. Do pointless speedtests everywhere you go. Make it your home Internet for a while. [editline]20th May 2014[/editline]
Why? You're never going to listen to it all..
That's kinda what happened to me and my 10GB of music back on my Sony phone. Basically I didn't listen to much of it. When I made the move to my new Nexus 5, I didn't even install PowerAMP or migrate my music. Previously I made the conclusion that I'm not going to listen to much music right now until school finishes in mid-June. That and all of the music I've been listening all school year can easily come from SoundCloud. When Google Play Music was released in Canada, I picked up the two month trial for All Access and since then I kinda haven't been using it at all recently. So I guess I don't listen to much music anyways. I could easily get All Access for free forever by making new Gmail accounts :v: That One month free trial can keep on going as it seems by making new accounts.

Verizon kept calling me and telling me I was using too much data, but apparently they didn't look at my plan before they did so.
now obviously my experience varies because i live in a major metropolitan zone i have never once had a problem with streaming music, and i'm on a 10 gig shared plan
Same here, and I'm in South Dakota, the exact opposite of a major metropolitan area. The only time you don't have Verizon 4G (or 3G really) is when you're in the true boonies (like, less than 100 people within a few miles). But when I know I'm going to be in those areas, I just pin my music ahead of time in Google Music.

I'm not trying to tear you apart/attack you or anything, I'm just curious. There's WiFi at my school that students can use and WiFi at my house. Anywhere without WiFi I just shuffle the 560 songs I have pinned from my Google Music.

When going out, WiFi is sometimes hard to find and when you do find it, sometimes you have to pass it (because bus/car ride, etc.)
how do you have 64gb of music
1) Internet/4G/3G is not available everywhere I travel, despite the fact that I still subscribe to Spotify Premium 2) Is it really that outlandish to have 64GB of music? I mean, one 12 track album at 192kbps MP3 is about 90MB. I have a combination of 192kbps, 320kbps, and even some .flac albums. [editline]20th May 2014[/editline] not even the entire 64GB is full, I've used about 38GB so far. My Winamp collection on my PC is over 400GB.

Wifi is sometimes reliable at home, but Wifi isn't exactly the best solution either, especially when at school, sometimes, the connection gets so slow, not even on my laptop, I wouldn't be able to load a youtube video.
Listening to music on local storage is always faster and less battery consuming than wifi and mobile data.
The Nexus 7 is not a smartphone, but the Nexus 5 is about the best phone you can get for that price.
You can get in near future 1+1 for better price and better specs.
how do you have 64gb of music
My sister has a 160gb ipod and has trouble deciding what albums she should put on it because she will run out of space, where I can't even be bothered to maintain a music library. Just because you don't care about music doesn't mean others don't.
Fast Question, If I TWRP backup my phone, Will the backup backup the backups that are stored in the backups folder?

The UI of Android is good because it's flat but with some depth, updates lately to Keep and G+ are going fully flat, which looks rather ugly.

I only have 5724 songs on my phone out of the 8137 on my PC, and I transcoded some of the heaviest FLAC albums into MP3, so in total my phone's music folder is only 29.7GB. On a 64GB external SD card. So I've got a long way to go. [editline]21st May 2014[/editline] While I was waiting for my Surface Pro 2's 128GB SD card to be shipped, I did set up Winamp on it to play my whole library from my desktop PC's hard drive.
