I looked into switching to T-Mobile today. Unlimited 4G data for $80/mo sounded pretty good.
Except my town and anywhere within a 40 minute radius driving is 2G-only. If you go north, south, or west from my location it's 2G only for anywhere from 1-1/2 to 2 hours away.
If they actually, ya know, covered me, I'd switch to them in a heart beat.
...How unlimited is it?
So, my Nexus 5 occasionally loses its motor functions. (Tactile feedback, vibrate, etc.)
Apparently this happens? I'm thinking about an RMA.
Other T-Mobiles.. soon.. please?
Won't happen, Deutsche Telekom is selling the US T-Mobile.

According to a friend of mine this would equate to about $700+ in overages on Verizon :v:

Boy, I'm sure glad I have T-Mobile so I can watch 120gb of Netflix on my Chromecast!
Maybe next month or so I'll see if I can use even more, it's more unlimited than US ISP's are.
Going back to stock/no root because I might be returning the phone in the future. Better to get it done now than later.

You get 250MB, 2GB or 5GB of 'high speed' data, after that you are capped at 60kB/s up and down, roughly 2G speeds though I have easily tested for 2x that in areas with no 3G but strong 2G.
No overage charges though, which is great.
2G is a lot slower than that actually
T-Mobile 2G (EDGE)
EDGE, our enhanced 2G service, delivers a theoretical maximum download speed of 236 kbps.
GPRS, our 2G service, delivers a theoretical maximum download speed of 114 kbps. Typical speeds are between 35 kbps and 45 kbps.
EDGE-
* Maximum = 29.5 kilobytes/sec
GPRS-
* Maximum = 14 kilobytes/sec
* Typical = 5.625 kilobytes/sec - 4.375 kilobytes/sec
Got my Nexus 5 today, what do you guys use to replace Hangouts? I'd prefer to use something basic like the old messaging app

Personally I love Hangouts, may I ask why you don't?
Before Hangouts had SMS support I used Textra.

More of a 'wah i dont like change' thing but it's full of useless (to me) features and the UI is weird

I was on the 5GB plan before. It was nice, but the terrible upcountry Maui coverage put me off of it.

CM messaging app then i guess
hangouts is nice tho :)

They have a 1gb plan which comes with the $50/mo unlimited everything no possible fees or overage.
Then you have a 3gb for another $10(60), 5gb for another $10(70) or completely unlimited for another $10(80). That's their one line plan though.
I'm stuck with a super special plan which gave me Unlimited for $20 on our old family plan since we've been customers since 2007. I actually had the Unlimited plan like 2-3 months before they publicly put them out there since we were trying to switch around a bunch of account stuff when I got my mom to get a Nexus 4 instead of a shitty Nokia freebie she couldn't even hear on.
My S4 is acting really fucking weird so I'm gonna flash it back to stock with Odin and a fullwipe method now. Weird things are happening, like it always tells me to use the official charger and cable despite the fact that I'm using the ones that came with the phone, and more recently I can no longer install apps, the phone crashes if I tell it to calculate remaining storage space, it can't recognize the SD card, it won't reboot, and powering off keeps it in a state where the lights are always on so I need to pull the battery. Some sort of file system corruption? Bad storage?
Very strange things indeed, I'm wondering what I could have done to cause this. Maybe experimentation with Xposed and Wanam Xposed? No idea. I'm just hoping it's not seriously hosed.

Yeah I'm about to give up on this. Even when fully factory restored and repartitioned with Odin it's hosed and it runs incredibly hot. I think faulty hardware is at play here. The thing is out of warranty so maybe I should consider replacing the thing. I regret buying the S4; I bought into the hype of the high-end flagship wars and I wound up never using nor needing all that power and all of those features because I do all of my heavy lifting on my Nexus 7. Despite this, I still want a decent low-to-mid-range phone to use as a daily PDA for Email, Fitness apps, and maybe the occasional GBA game to pass the time. Is the Moto G still the best bang-for-your buck in that area on Verizon?
What's with apps and having really shitty implementations of things
Snapchat can kill the camera if you let it auto lock while open, breaking it until you reboot
Skype has a tendency to just sit there vibrating continuously until you open the message

I thought all consumer electronics have a mandatory 2 year warranty. The phone only came out a year ago...

I don't see the Moto G on their site, however on Swappa they $90-110 which seems like a great deal. Yeah the Moto G would fit that position pretty well I would think. However, I'd also possibly look at some cheap flagship devices like the LG G2 which you can pick up for $300ish.

Oh. I'm still fucking done with Samsung so I'm gonna be wasteful and irresponsible and replace the thing.

I'm not looking to spend more than $100 here. Thank you, though!

Pretty sure most are only a year since they'd rather you buy a new one every year. I know Apple and LG have a 1 year.

If you can get Samsung to replace it you can sell it still sealed in box for a decent bit on Swappa, could easily net you plenty to get a Moto G.
[editline]21st June 2014[/editline]
Hold on, the Moto G doesn't have LTE so your speeds on Verizon will be beyond painful, it also seems they lock them so they have to be used for 6 months at least on a Prepaid line since they aren't sold as a postpaid contract plan. I'd highly suggest researching it a bit before buying one!
I took my SD card out and now it's working perfectly fine. I can't format it in Windows. Odd.
Also I thought I read they made a 4G version. Not that I ever use anything that justifies 4G beyond checking email and sports scores.

Consumer law supersedes manufacturer warranty periods.
Consumer law supersedes manufacturer warranty periods.
Yes, Apple was caught out for not following the Australian Consumer Law.
They told employees via email that they should accept 2 year old device repairs, but don't tell new customers about it/changes
Also under ACL, if you get an item replaced, it's warranty time is reset, which I only found out like 2 weeks ago
Speaking of Apple.
I had to fiddle around with a computer's wireless network drivers while I was at the house of the owner.
Situation was: I did not have my phone's USB cable with me, I only had WiFi access on my phone, and the owner had a iPhone.
Later on I decided to do a Bluetooth transfer to get a driver I found online onto his computer (he did have a USB cord of his iPhone), but his phone refused to connect with mine.
I tried dropbox, but it required a fucking iOS update. Then I gave up.
Now I wonder, are Bluetooth cross-platforms transfers even possible? Or is it that Apple decided to fuck up standards or something?

I don't even think iPhones support bluetooth transfer without some sort of third party app.

yes, they are. i have transferred files from smartphones to feature phones. its just an apple thing.

Apple has blocked bluetooth from file transfers.

iPhone to iPhone doesn't work either.

Limited Bluetooth, No NFC, No File Manager/File Storage
Yeah, not really a smart phone

Yet is still functions brilliantly.
Besides AOSP Android doesn't have a file manager anyway.
My Nexus 5 has been acting up lately. For some reason, it switches to LTE only whenever I reboot, which is pretty annoying since LTE doesn't handle phone calls in this country, and there's no LTE coverage where I live. Anyone know what it could be?
Consumer law supersedes manufacturer warranty periods.
The US doesn't have that level of consumer protection. AFAIK, a product just can't go defective in a "reasonable" amount of time. Which the 1 year manufacturer warranty is probably sufficient for covering something like a cell phone.
Even better is that some states allow negating the consumer law implied warranty if its stated that there is no implied warranty in the warranty terms.

So that's why snapchat obliterates my camera every so often
E: jesus christ my nexus 5 still drops data harder than greece's stock market, even worse on 4.4.4
