Flashing stuff is guaranteed to mess up OTA updates. At that point your choices would be to revert to the software the phone came with or to install the update manually. As for trust, you just have to look at the thread and see if there are any major bugs. Only download from the more popular developers and groups.
So I just updated my Droid 4 to 4.1.2, and now I no longer get a prompt on boot to enter my password to decrypt storage; it just goes straight into the lock screen. Disabling and re-enabling encryption did nothing - what do?

Does that mean updates are already pooped?

Ah I guess it doesn't matter then. Returning to stock will wipe everything anyway.

So for a kernel what one would everybody recommend?
So for a kernal what one would everybody recommend?
That's the wrong way of spelling "kernel". Also, you haven't even said what device you're using. Don't flash anything, keep with stock, whatever device you have. Otherwise you'll end up flashing a Galaxy S2 kernel on a Sony XPeria U. Also, I flashed TBalden's kernel (the non-optimized one). Getting rid of that huge menu button was a good choice. The HTC Logo doesn't seem as responsive as the other two, but I don't give a fuck. I barely ever press the menu button anyway.
I believe that people are typing it wrong simply because they don't know what the fuck it means. So, read up people: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kernel_(computing)

Just been toying around with this, seems pretty cool, just incredibly useless on a phone, but nevertheless it's really cool. http://www.androidauthority.com/run-google-glass-on-android-216338/

Returning to stock will wipe everything anyway.
OTA updates are often posted fairly quickly as flashable zips if you really need them, and any features that are added with the OTA are pretty much always added to stock roms, there is no worry if you decide to or not to flash back to stock
I keep on losing service entirely, like in the cellular settings, the service providors search mode is auto, network mode is WCDMA (preferred)/GSM and I'm getting dropped services all day long. Wow. And right when I finally got SMS.
So, just noticed the Huawei Ascend Y300 I'm gonna buy next week has this ugly huawei exclusive interface called Emotion UI 1. The first thing I will do is install a new launcher. Suggestions? Also, it's running 4.1

Nova and Apex are two of the most popular AOSP-style launchers. Try them both out.
Holo Launcher is pretty good too.
Are they like stock Jelly Bean launcher? That's the thing I'm looking for. Maybe later I'll customize it and such, but for now I just want to adapt to Android. Been on symbian for a long time and it's a massive jump. The only thing that might be a problem is that Emotion UI has no menu. I don't know if launchers are gonna fix that. (If you're wondering, all your apps go to the homescreens.)
Anyone still using GO Launcher EX?
Anyone still using GO Launcher EX?
I really dislike that launcher, it just doesn't look good to me

Instead of just putting them alphabetically like the stock launcher does, it just adds them chronologically. (it also asks you if you want to add it to your homescreen, but it does it in chinese or japanese, which I don't understand)
Do you guys know how to change the way how a computer detects my SGS2 with CM10.1 to the way how it did on CM10? I mean, it used to see it as an external drive and now as a phone. I cannot view pictures directly from a directory (the PC copies the file on its HDD first and then opens it), some files don't appear at all and there are often errors when I'm trying to copy files on memory either of phone or external SD card.
Last question and I'll stop fucking around. With 512MB RAM, Adreno 203 and Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon, do y ou think I will be able to play, for example, Minecraft PE or GTA 3?

So a phone I'm about to buy has the same hardware as the phone considered the worst of these threads. :v:
So a phone I'm about to buy has the same hardware as the phone considered the worst of these threads. :v:
That's exactly what you are getting. Consider choosing a better one to buy.
That's exactly what you are getting. Consider choosing a better one to buy.
Really, I don't care about games and such. As long as I get 4.1, a mid-good screen and it's a durable phone, I'm ok with it. Already pushed 20 euros more from the Xperia Tipo budget to this one, and can't really gather more money anytime soon.
