You bought a shitty budget phone, said "I don't want to use the stock ROM", and you aren't returning it. Why would you keep a phone where you don't want to use the stock software. Flashing ROMs is unnecessary in 2014 because Android phones that don't suck out of the box exist.
I'm getting a new phone soon and I have no idea what to get since the last Android I had was the HTC Aria :v:
I've been hearing a lot of good things about the LG G2 in this thread but I've been looking at other phones like the Xperia Z1 and the Nexus 5.
I'm particularly drawn towards the Xperia Z1 because of the price, the camera, and its appearance. What do you guys think of it? Is it any good?
I quite enjoy my Z1 stock, I run around with no case, but just some cheap screen protectors back and front, to catch small scratches and after dropping it a few times on concrete/hardwood floors, just some minor chips other than that, nothing really noticeable. If you're into flashing different roms, it's been pretty easy from what I hear, I haven't gone into flashing, cause I have nothing I absolutely need to change in the ROM. Might want to get another camera app to take better pictures, but stock app would be good for casual photos. Got any questions about the Z1, just ask.
But other than that, as I say to everyone who is looking into buying a phone, try out the devices you can get your hands on, whether at a store, or through a friend, preferably through a friend, because the friend can tell you what they think is good/bad.

lol what, why did Samsung release a new version of a S3 mini with the S5 already out.

Have you heard of the screen cracking issue with the Z1? Is that a common problem? I understand that the satisfied customers are the silent majority, but I keep seeing threads on other sites such as reddit complaining about the self-cracking screen.
Haven't found anywhere that has Xperias for display, but I've tried the HTC One M8, LG G2, and LG G3 at a local Best Buy. They all felt pretty good for the most part, but the aluminum case of the M8 was just stunning. The rear buttons of the G2 and G3 felt awkward, and I couldn't really tell the difference between the 1440p G3 and 1080p G2. I guess it's because I'm so used to the iPhone 4's 640x960 screen.

You can get a second hand 32gb LG G2 for less than a new Nexus 5, load PA/CM on it and have a way better version of the N5 for cheaper. Used G2's are going for around or under $300 on Swappa.
You should really be looking at the G2 vs Z1, both are quite similar phones. The Z1 is a very solidly built device with heft, the G2 is a slim design focused on neutral weighting and jamming as much screen and battery into a phone as physically possible. The G2 is a smaller device, lighter with more screen and the same battery.
The most significant difference other than atheistic is the 21mp vs 13mp with OIS. I'm personally a fan of the OIS since I no longer have to snap 5 pictures to even get a non-blurry one possibly and two of a important thing always yields one good one.
Yup. The reason they struggle with night time is, because there's not a lot of light. When shooting in low light condition, we (people who use pro cameras) either open up the lense, or set the exposure longer (the shutter stays open longer, letting more light in, but any movement will be caught in the image as blur), or both. I'm really surprised the camera apps don't allow for longer exposures.
Well you need a stable platform to have a significant exposure time and someone's one hand is far from ideal for even the exposure time most point and shoots have in night mode probably. I would only assume they don't include a long exposure mode for fear that people will say it doesn't work because they don't stabilize their phone somehow which can be pretty difficult.
You can probably find a different app which allows to adjust exposure but good luck holding it still enough to take a working photo when OIS phones even still have issues with HDR not being blurry.

It feels awkward for about 2 days, then after a week you'll never ever want anything different. Mostly get used to Knock-On/Knock-Off since it's something that every phone on the market should have.
I always try and knock on my tablet and I'm disappointed when it doesn't work.
Have fun focusing in the dark.
Also the most annoying shit ever on the nexus 5 with the google camera app, stuff is in focus but the second after I pressed the video record button, it suddenly goes out of focus. What the hell.
Goddamn right. This happens to me EVERY single time I try and make a video. :v:

Its wrong for me too. I know for a fact I walked more than 3 hours last month.
[editline]1st August 2014[/editline]
I swear it said more than 7 hours last month too.

I've had a ton of issues relating to my battery for the past months. using the phone for literally 10-20 minutes would completely deplete it, and it wouldn't survive 5-6 hours in deep sleep without flat lining.
one battery re-calibration and some greenify later

it's almost as if I have a new phone!
mine doesn't even work anymore

What did you use for battery calibration?

That screen cracking issue happened to my brother in his Z Ultra, I broke my Z Ultra by flexing it too far. But I haven't had an issue with my screen since I got it in January. My screen didn't crack last week after I dropped it from my stomach, height wise I'm 5'8, and it landed on my steel toe boot and skid across the floor for like a foot screen facing down. Screen protector took a long scratch and some chip on the black plastic frame around the screen which isn't really noticeable.
Other than that, no I haven't really heard about it. But really any modern device, has a chance of the screen cracking randomly, just look at how many iPhones are cracked.

I'm not getting those walking things anymore
I'm not getting those walking things anymore
I can only conclude that if your phone says you haven't walked at all this past month you must be 600kg and glued to your computer chair.
I suggest you immediately begin jogging.
When did they implement the walking card in Google Now?
I just got my phone back from repairs, and I didn't have it before it was sent in for service.

It only shows up on the first of every month
And I've never seen it once :v:
Anyone here who uses the more cheaper Assmung (Samsung) phones?
I just bought the S3 mini i8200 value edition, and it seems there aren't ROMs for it available on XDA developers.
Anyone knows a source where I can find a 4.4.X ROM? I really don't want to stick with the ruined 4.2.2 on it.
Samsung's higher end phones are fine, but never ever ever ever buy their lower end phones, they suck. There is only really one budget phone worth considering and it's the Moto G.
swappa is p good for finding higher end phones that are a year or two old but still work good for cheap prices

Guess it's another North America only feature (for now?).
Nope, I've had it for a good while now, didn't get it this month though, might be because I recently flashed PA.
Don't ever expect it to be correct.
Ever. (until update well).
Since my G watch counts steps, I've been using that.

Weird, haven't had it yet showing up on my feed yet. Been a year in the UK as well where I get even more cards than normal back here in Norway.
once i started driving my walking time cut in half

It arrived just today, and I'll be honest, despite for it being 155 euros, and having a 1.2ghz dual core CPU, it handles everything nicely I throw at it. I rooted it, (I used some Chinese Vroot software) froze the bloatware and installed KitKat launcher along with my other applications to get rid of the Touchjizz launcher.
I just have to wait for a recovery and a good ROM to be ported to this model branch of the S3 Mini.
Good luck, it'll probably be a long wait.
Hey, the I9001 which I had had quite a lot of support, and the GT-I8190 has. So how should I've known this? This is the second Android phones I'll get my hands on for a long time.
Guess I just sit tight and find a way to at least root the thing and clean it as much as I can.
Return it and buy a damn Moto G
Flashed M8 manually because cyanogenmod has been completely neglecting the Installer builds, everything is flawless. Not even going to bother looking into a new phone anymore.
