I have a few apps I've downloaded that seem similar in function to ones you've suggested, I'll check those out though, in case I like them better.
Also, what do you mean by "rooted"?

the short answer, it's like jailbreaking
the deal with root though is if you have to ask "why do i need root" you don't need to root

Rooting a device basically allows non-system apps to run commands with elevated privileges. Think of it like jail breaking an iPhone, but much more accepted and safe. For example AdAway needs system privileges to alter the hosts file on the system, so usually it wouldn't work. I wouldn't worry about it for now since the root process differs for different devices and it usually voids warranty.

This.
Hm, the recent PA update seems to have fixed battery draining issues and the meh battery life when I'm not tethering.
Why on earth did they think that having your phone on Vibrate, meant that you can't have alarms? Before 4.4 I could have my phone on Vibrate and have alarms, I try doing the same on 4.4 and it mutes my alarms no matter what I do.
Did the same on Omnirom/PA/CM on my S3 and Sense on my M8.

Alarm volume has always been separate for me. Android L on Nexus 4 is no different.
Presto should seriously get their ass onto NFC-enabled devices.
Anyone got an oneplus one invite?
there's fuck all that uses NFC/tap to pay around here
only mcdonald's and subway seems to use it
[editline]1st October 2014[/editline]
I have to pay for my groceries with a debit card like a common scrub
though it was funny when I paid for a sandwich at subway with my phone and the cashier was flipping out and wondering how I did that :v:
Can you use NFC in Ireland? Phone has it enabled but play store doesn't have google wallet here
My bank supports NFC payments from mobile devices. Pretty neat
I made a little video about my new phone!
is there an app for android that boosts wifi signal?
Its annoying that here in Poland 90% stores can do NFC-based payments, (lastly even one biiiig store chain added card payment and etc) but nooooooo, dont release Google Wallet here. Release it in country that does not have proper system in place to even use it.
Any recommendations for a messaging app beyond Hangouts?
Any recommendations for a messaging app beyond Hangouts?
For SMS? Well I use CM Messaging Beta but it sometimes randomly force closes. Sliding Messaging was a laggy mess last time I tried using it.
For other chat platforms? I guess try What's App, Telegram.
Yeah, SMS. I'm still running 4.4.4 on my N5. No root or such, undid all that.
QKSMS is nice app, and good looking :)

nope.
Alarm volume has always been separate for me. Android L on Nexus 4 is no different.
On both devices I've used 4.4 on, if my phone is set to vibrate and I try moving the alarm slider it just resets. So if I want to have my alarm on, I end up getting woken up by ringtones from emails, facebook, texts etc through the night.
I use Textra for messaging and I've never had any problems, and it looks nice.
My bank's mobile payment system isn't an app, it's an NFC sticker that you put on the back of your phone. They don't support Interac flash either, so it's only for their Mastercards.
Tell me: is it worth it to install Android L on Nexus 5?
If you were hoping Samsung would redo Touchwiz for Android L

TouchWiz still looks terrible.
Don't.

Here's my list:
8tracks - Good for discovering new music without adverts.
ES File Explorer - Free file manager, lots of features though slightly bloated.
Flud - Best torrent app, no question.
Greenify - Hibernates apps when not in use, good for battery saving.
Google Keep - Nice notes app with reminders.
MX Player - Fast and hardware optimized video player.
Pushbullet - Extremely useful tool for sending links, files and images to and from your phone to your computer.
Google Opinion Rewards - Free google play credit!
Poweramp - Massively feature rich music player, does cost though.
Shuttle - Nicer looking music player, less features but free.
TickTick - Great app for to-do lists and reminders.
Orbot - Enables tunnelling through the Tor network, good for privacy on wifi though transparent proxying requires root.
SwiftKey - IMO the best keyboard out there, mainly because of it's predictions.
Reddit Sync - My personal favourite reddit app, though there are alternatives that some people prefer like BaconReader and reddit is fun.
If your rooted:
AdAway - Edits hosts file and blocks adverts on apps and websites.
Sixaxis Controller - PS3 controller support!
Xposed Framework - Use only on stock android, enables the use of apps that require elevated access to Android including various tweaks and mods.
I'm guessing you have most of the useful Google apps like Docs, Drive and such already.
Can't believe this, had that super bright led flashlight on my phone since day 1 on my N5.. luckily I don't use mobile banking on my mobile due to it being rooted, factory reset soon as I read this
The flashlight app I used was Tesla LED. The only permissions it had were camera and flashlight control, and something to do with widget drawing.

I did notice the permissions, but I thought they were fairly benign. Oh well. Thankfully, HTC has a flashlight app built into Sense.

You don't need anything else.

There is a flash light app in PA and it works.
