I streamed like 5 songs on my way to school today and it used up 40mb of data. Adds up quick.
Carriers could use that to detect tethering, that would suck quite a lot.
Its pretty trivial to detect that already. Just sniff the HTTP requests for your user agent. Not fool proof because of spoofing, but the vast majority of people wouldn't bother. Most carrier devices won't allow you to tether using the built in utility unless they detect it being enabled on your plan (that's the case with Verizon anyway), and if you have an unlocked device, they have no way of retrieving that info. Its literally a non-issue.
I use Google Hangouts (for actual Google Hangouts messaging, similar to Skype) a whole lot which ends up using 1GB a month from all of the chatter from many people and groups, which includes a lot of image sending. Tumblr is very image heavy which leads to a lot of data usage. Spotify music streaming in Extreme Quality adds up on the bus ride to school and back. Since there isn't WiFi on the bus, I just browse fp, reddit and other websites and services because I didn't get the time to do it at home. I get bored so I do speedtests which will add up quickly.
Its nuts to have tap-to-pay in my country. Only 2 "carriers" support it (well, for 1,5 year, after it became something with Google Wallet), and you have to use special nfc sim card (bullshit), and buy the nfc phone FROM THEM ONLY. Im really curious why banks dont have their own apps or something. I have to wait for my "carrier" to have nfc app, oh well.
In Canada some banks have it but it only works for some carriers (obvious reasons) and a specific list of devices. No Nexus 5 :/
almost all banks here have NFC cards but no NFC phone service yet. i expect when apple pay rolls out here it'll be widespread very quickly because of that
So I'm tempted by a Nexus 5 after I smashed my Samsung Galaxy S3 on the floor of a poundland the other day [IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/Q8CIwfL.png[/IMG_thumb] Is that price to good to be true? Or should I hold out a while in case a trusted seller lowers their price?
Asking this again - does anyone have any experience with expeditelectronics and would I be getting ripped off?
In Australia, carriers don't give a fuck what you do with your mobile data, they just want you to use it up so that you can pay them more. Most people only get between 1-6GB of data a month so it isn't unlimited so why the hell would they not let you tether?
I've had enough of post-paid plans and decided to jump onto pre-paid and I gotta say I think I enjoy it more. $40 on Boost gives me Telstra reception, unlimited calls & text and 2GB of Internet. I've only got 900mb left and that's all I need. If I go over my limit then it turns off. Nobody in this fucking country has bothered to learn a thing or two from America or Europe, they just think consumers can be fucked around and nothing will happen. So far they're on point but I wish that wasn't the case
almost all banks here have NFC cards but no NFC phone service yet. i expect when apple pay rolls out here it'll be widespread very quickly because of that
We also have nfc cards. And nfc keychains. And nfc stickers. Its advertised as something great and cool, and every bank is having their own. I have only standard tap-to-pay bank card, mostly because every card now have that.
Where can I go to complain about the incorrect use of spelling in some languages?
Somehow my 1+1 shipment method got upgraded from normal to express, not that I am complaining, but that is kind of weird.

I was paying $12/mth for $750 worth of calls, unlimited texts and 1.5GB data until recently they called me up and said that my plan was way too much of a charity so they raised the monthly price to $18. Still pretty fucking good deal.
Can they just change the terms of your contract like that?
It's basically a prepaid plan, your contract technically only lasts 1 month. You can't get locked into it, but it means they can change the prices / data caps without warning [editline]21st October 2014[/editline] I switched providers 3 times last year because of it Went from Telstra to Kogan Mobile, which was basically just a Telstra Reseller. They were $30 for unlimited calls, texts and 5gb 3G data. Then they dropped the data to 2.5gb, kinda shitty now but still better than anyone else. And then they got a lawsuit from Telstra and had to close down I jumped over to Aldi Mobile, which was basically the same as Kogan (Telstra reselling) with a better legal team. They were $35 a month for 2.5gb 3G, but the same thing happened, they kept dropping the data cap and increasing prices until it was something like $40 for 2gb. So I ended up jumping back over to Telstra where I pay $30 for 1.4gb of 4G Basically: Everyone rents network space from Telstra because they own most of it, consumers move to the resellers because it's cheaper, Telstra makes it more expensive for the resellers, resellers increase their prices, everyone moves back to Telstra WOO MONOPOLIES
I barely break 100 MB a month. Do you people stream video all day or something?
I use at least 300MB a month on snapchat alone.. And that's only because if I use more I'll go over my data cap even sooner.
Turns out 3 don't bother enforcing tethering limits if I set my user agent to x86_64 Linux on my laptop. nice

I changed my provider when i bought the 1+1. They gave me a temporary number till my old number was being transferred but now my phone number in 'about phone' is incorrect. Therefore under Status - My Phone number shows as the one that came with the phone. Is there a way to fix this? This is a problem because some apps use that info to get my number.
try going into airplane mode, reboot, then go out of airplane mode
Didn't work, meh.
Didn't work, meh.
you could try factory resetting your phone but it may be easier if you got a new sim from your carrier. just say it doesn't work for some reason. Yeah, but i don't want to do a factory reset.
find iphone that uses the same sim size, insert your sim into iphone, settings>phone>my number, set number to what it should be, reinsert sim into your phone, problem solved
It's not that big of a deal, my phone number is correct if call/text somebody, it's just that under about phone> status> my phone number, the temporary one is still listed which confuses some apps.
So who here actually uses Telegram nowadays after the whole security craze some time ago?
The only use I have for Telegram is with the German FP thread. They are using it as a chatroom. I suggested Hangouts, but nah. Anyways OpO stuck in "processing" day 4 just begun. Not getting any clearer information whats going on is making me impatient.

I am signed into my google account though
