Android Thread - The only phones with patented Kernel Panic™ technology!

I'm in the market for a new phone, around $300-400 ish.
Preferably something that will last 2+ years without slowing down/battery death like my Nexus 3 is doing.
Any recommendations?
I'm having a hell of a time with an issue that I have. I'm trying to put a custom boot animation on my HTC desire 816, which is rooted.
So far I tried applying it manually by replacing the file "hTC_bootup_one.zip" within "system/customize" with the custom boot animation. This didn't work and my stock animation stayed the same.
I tried downloading a flashable zip that had a different animation and was made for HTC sense 6.0 phones which had the same installation path as mine, unzipped it and replaced it with my own and re-zipped it. I booted into recovery and I tried to flash the zip but it failed.
Does anybody have any idea what I can do? This is driving me crazy.
at&t has confirmed that the nexus 6 will cost $250 on contract.
everything surrounding the nexus 6 is a disaster, fuck

The price, the pre-orders, the release...I'm amazed at how much it's been cocked up.

ummmmmmmm
the n6 is only "expensive" off contract because the nexus 4/5 were outliers compared to the rest
also hello peeps with nexus 5, is this battery life bad?

$650 is pretty cheap as far as flagships go.

Yes, I have a hundred battery stat screen shots to prove it. It's still bad on Android 5 dev preview.
maybe I'm just spoiled
I'd never buy a mobile phone for more than $400 unless it did my laundry, made toast, and preferably lasted longer than 2 hours SOT. :v:
Well fuck. I tried to root my Moto G with the "superboot" method, which rooted the phone fine. but the screen has stripes and "artifacts" all over it.
I tried resetting it and rerooting it, to no effect. What should I do?
edit:the artifacts show up on fastboot mode too.
I wonder how much power running the prox sensor uses... I'd like tasker to be able to detect when it's in my pocket.

probably not a whole lot as long as you don't turn it on/pull information from it every second.

That was quick.
that's the joke I'm making
that phone's not used at all, it's just my daily alarm
I'm making fun of people on XDA who brag about getting home with 60% left with like 30 seconds of SOT :v:
well at least it is usable after not touching it for so long!
What is the likelihood the OnePlus One will be Sprint compatible sometime until the Galaxy S6 is released?

about the likelihood that i'll be the first man on the moon
I wonder how much power running the prox sensor uses... I'd like tasker to be able to detect when it's in my pocket.
Negligible. I use double tap to wake and 'prevent accidental wake-up' with the prox sensor and it hasn't affected my battery life.

I suppose with the way I worded that it made it sound like I was holding my breath.
welp, gg on that
i just wish the aquos crystal was GSM compatible instead of being CDMA locked because it looks like an excellent phone for a cheap price

I use double tap all the time, I literally never had it accidentally wake up in any way. That and I never press the power button for stuff anymore.
what is a kernel, what does it do, and how do i get it

Not happening. :(

You could download one.

if you need to ask, you don't need one

But I care and that's why I'm asking

Thanks
Absolutely amazing. After waiting 15 days for the pending authorization to pass for my one plus one order, they cancelled it. gg
~~~ HTC One M8 Proximity Sensor Science Time ~~~
I did some testing with my old phone that doesn't have an IR filter on the camera to watch when the prox sensor is active and found some odd results
Screen On: Always active
Screen Off, Case Open/No Case: Active for about 5 seconds after screen turns off
Screen Off, Case Closed: Always active
I don't know if this is a bug or not, but as long as I'm using this case keeping the prox sensor active for tasker is 'free'.
Got my referb G3 today. Doesn't even look referb, minus missing the back case and battery. Just flashed TWRP recovery and installed a PAC-MAN g3 rom on it.
Correctly, this time...
if you don't know how a kernel affects your phone, you don't need to mess with it
Time to complain to them!
