I'm having trouble deciding if when an exploit is out for 4.4.4 on the Verizon M8, if I should s-off and root, or just OTA to 5.0 whenever that comes out.
Root doesn't require S-Off. Most custom ROMs don't require S-Off either. My M7 still has S-On, running a rooted custom Rom based on stock. I know cyanogenmod doesn't require it either. I'd recommend a custom Rom based on stock when you want to be able to update faster than ota. Aosp based when you like trying things out or when you like stock Google more.
Went to HTC Meetup yesterday as part of being an elevate member, met couple of staff and so on so on. Got the private number of one of them, said he will let me know when a position will be open so I'm pretty excited
I never really extensively used TouchWiz or Moto Blur or anything else except for stock Android, Sony Xperia's 4.0 ROMs and some CM11s which is practically stock.
I've used TouchWiz (the old Froyo one and the new one on the S3) and Sense 3.6. I don't know how I didn't kill myself.
Don't you need a custom bootloader in order to install a custom ROM? edit: Yeah you need S-off and a custom recovery for every single ROM available for the Verizon M8 variant.
The only way to remove that restriction is by using an S-OFF exploit anyway, so its not a huge issue.
I just unlocked the bootloader on my Moto G 1st gen so I could flash the Brazilian Lollipop OTA. 5.0, bitches.
easy to unlock, even later on getting lollipop. i'm waiting for 5.0.1 so I can get a custom ROM now.
I almost always have connectivity issues on 4g, 3g works fine. I just switched on 4g and I've got no bars
the radio or at least the software for the radio on the 1+1 seems to be weird as it has difficulty reconnecting to some LTE towers while in motion (i.e. car, bus) while the Nexus 5 seems to do fine. Either 1) the updating is more frequent on the 1+1 or 2) bad reconnection coding of some sort
Don't you need a custom bootloader in order to install a custom ROM? edit: Yeah you need S-off and a custom recovery for every single ROM available for the Verizon M8 variant.
I have TWRP on my S-ON M7. What happened with HTC's developer unlock bootloader thing??? What's the use of that anymore? http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/221
You must be S-OFF or have taken HTC's unlock to use a recovery on your device!
They say HTC's unlock works.
Sooo if you ever wanted to give Windows Phone, the Nokia Lumia 520 is carrier unlocked and only $30 with free shipping. Probably USA only. http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/AT-T---Nokia-Lumia-520---No-Contract/productID.283842800
Might just buy it to futz around with it.
This Anybody know if the music player is decent? Considering buying one as an mp3 player
Ima use it as a camera.
My Dad and Step-mom have used the Lumia for about two years now, and they actually love the phones. The music player's ok, the speakers are actually pretty good, and they work (relatively) well with PCs when they want to.

That's the issue in the first place. The bootloader is completely locked down. Fortunately, there is an exploit, which achieves S-OFF. The page you pulled up was for the Sprint model.
Plus I'm pretty sure T-Mobile makes it not count against your data allowance.
yup, i can confirm this. i downloaded like 15 albums while on thanksgiving vacation over data.
How do I make my Z3C update to android 5.0? It won't give me the option.
How do I make my Z3C update to android 5.0? It won't give me the option.
5.0 hasn't come out yet for it then
5.0 hasn't come out yet for it then
So it's out for every other smartphone?
So it's out for every other smartphone?
It's not out for many at all yet
seems to be USA only as it's not found in the Canadian store and the USA store does not ship to Canada..
It's also on amazon for that price, so you may have better luck there. [editline]10th December 2014[/editline] Also this 520 may lead to project pip-boy being a go. No IR though :(
If I can get this, I will actually extensively try Windows Phone 8 for once.
Remember a couple weeks ago when Volvo was giving away those google cardboard vr goggles? I forgot too, but mine came in the mail today.Holy balls VR is amazing
Fuck Verizon then
Verizon has always done this with their "certified" Android devices.
Apparently the G3 is supposed to be getting it before the end of the year, but we all know how release dates tend to go for Android updates.
didn't the G3 get 5.0 some time ago? I remember a leaked build popped up last month, and now the xda forums is loaded with a bunch of 5.0.1 stock ROMs. can't tell if it's available over OTA yet seeing as I'm using CM12, but I believe its been available for some time
