okay, but the size of the phone isn't actually a definitive problem. it does however have actual problems that make it a sub par experience over all [editline]26th December 2014[/editline] at the price you can obtain a much better phone than the nexus 6
What do you recommend then? I currently have an S3 so by comparison the N6's screen and battery are probably amazing but I'm open to suggestions. It's clear you don't like the N6 but that alone doesn't help someone decide what to buy [editline]26th December 2014[/editline]
Also, meanwhile in Canada.. On a non-sharable plan, exactly what you've selected is $45. For $75/month here you get 10GB of data

Everywhere else (except QC, but they got their own weird pricing) gets screwed as per usual. Even here in NB.
You can usually go in and play with the display models if you're at the main branch of whatever carrier you have. The N6 is the first of what you could consider next years flagships. Its not the best representation, but its got all the neato geewizz features that all the phones will have soon. Something else to consider is the size of course. The OPO is supposed to be pretty great, but iirc next years model will be coming along in a few months, nevermind that you need an invite for one. The HTC M8 is still a great choice too. Any moto * phones are pretty decent choices too.
Pretty sure that's just Ontario, here in Sask on Rogers the lowest amount of data available in a Share Everything plan is 2GB (with unlimited talk/text on all plans) and that costs $60.
No, it's more complex than that. The reason why Rogers/Bell/Telus is cheaper in Saskatchewan than Ontario/elsewhere is because there is actually real competition with SaskTel. In Ontario and other provinces, there is like no competition. Every large carrier pretty much charges the same (besides Wind, Public and Moblicity) in terms of everything. SaskTel is basically, fuck you Rogers/Bell/Telus, we have the network to support more data usage and shit, and you do too, so we are going to be competitive and give cheaper data plans and stuff. SaskTel does actually their own network and I believe Rogers/Bell/Telus uses their network in exchange for allowing SaskTel to use their network outside of Saskatchewan. Now for SaskTel, the biggest annoyance I've noticed is that if you want to go outside of Saskatchewan, it will cost you money to do phone calls and stuff when you are outside of their coverage area. So it's only really the best if you actually live and stay in Saskatchewan. If you travel a lot, well it's gonna cost you a bit more. In addition, there still is or used to be an "up to x MB amount of data" that you can use anywhere else in Canada before they started to charge you more, which was even more BS. This is to prevent people from using the plan to it's full potential in other provinces. I am not sure if other carriers do this. They probably do to rape your wallet like usual. http://www.sasktel.com/wps/wcm/connect/content/home/for-business/wireless/for-business-rate-plans/travel-add-ons-canada/travel-add-ons-canada Like seriously, Roaming in Canada.. http://www.sasktel.com/wps/wcm/connect/content/home/wireless/coverage-and-travel/travelling-with-your-phone-or-device It's also worth pointing out that the majority of the Canadian population live elsewhere, where the cell phone plans are more expensive than in Saskatchewan. Source: http://www4.hrsdc.gc.ca/.3ndic.1t.4r@-eng.jsp?iid=34 Sure you could try getting a Saskatchewan plan and use it where ever you want in Canada, people have been doing this all the time but they've been cracking down on it a whole lot and kick you off the better plan into your regional provincial plan.
On a non-sharable plan, exactly what you've selected is $45.
And no, I did not select a non-sharable plan, look back at the image. The plan I've selected is a "Share Everything" plan where you can tether all you want and share the data between a family.
For $75/month here you get 10GB of data
There are network differences based on province just like it would based on country. And as stated above, you probably can't use that 10GB anywhere in Canada. SaskTel is similar to Wind, you kinda have to use it on their network before they start charging you for using it outside their own network.
All of those plans I talked about in my post are for Rogers. $75/month for 10GB of data nationwide, or $45 for what you selected (but not sharable). Sasktel actually has an unlimited plan (it's $100/month...) but that's likely the reason Rogers chooses to not completely gouge us here, you're right.
I managed to install cyanogenmod on my Note 1 after loads of fucking around for 3 hours, but I did it! First I couldn't flash the recovery image with Clockwork through heimdall because initialization always fucked up, found out that it only works once and I need to reboot completely everytime I make a mistake. Moving cyanogenmod onto my phone was a pain in the dick because of the driver swap you do with heimdall it wasn't recognized by my computer anymore so ADB couldn't see my device anymore. Install the samsung drivers again. Wipe the device. Create new folder through ADB and push cyanogen into that folder onto device, the folder wasn't created or something because now it didn't exist... Worked on the second time. Then the recovery image they put on the tutorial page was out of date for the latest version of cyanogenmod. Then the latest version of clockwork was fucked for JUST MY PHONE(Samsung Note, N7000), it's a zip file and not an image. Tried installing through Rom Manager, stuck on flashing, probably because of the same reason. Okay, then I'll get TWRP, not available for my phone. Damnit. Could build my own version but I'd have to install linux. Philz Touch it is then! Flashed without problems, but now it won't load the recovery mode and booting my phone does nothing. go back to CWM, recover the backup, install Philz again. This time Philz works and I can install cyanogen, boot cyanogen, stuck on the animation. Back into recovery mode and do a wipe, and it launched! It actually launched. It's now 6:15 am and I can go to sleep. [editline]27th December 2014[/editline] holy wall of text

Bought grand theft auto: Chinatown Wars, find out that the save file is saved on an accessible place where you can back it up and swap it with another save file if you wanted to. Just like the previous gta ports. Sweet. I wonder if ds save files are compatible...
Meanwhile In Australia [t]http://i.imgur.com/ITE06W3.png[/t] which costed [t]http://i.imgur.com/JP35k4U.png[/t] but too be fair, I get the best coverage, like this thing never drops out anywhere. And the 3G is fucking fast
Yeah, both the battery life and the not-so-big screen is one of the reasons that make me want to get it. However, I've also heard that some users had their screens cracked by doing nothing to it which worries me so I'm kinda stuck on the fence here.
I'm carrying the bigger brother around and I had also had the previous generation, Z1, and I had yet to encounter the screen cracking on either devices. The only time when I had the screen crack was when I was using the Z Ultra and that was completely my fault. When I was still using the Z1, I was riding go karts and the phone frame got bent, yet the screen did not work and was still functional.
Damn, I pay £30 a month for Unlimited Data, Unlimited texts and 500 minutes with a Moto X on T-Mobile, damn you guys have it bad.
does anyone with a nexus 7 know if pogo pins charge when the device is off made a ghetto pogo charger cause my usb port broke, nothing currently happening indicating charging (but battery might also be stupid low)
Gahh I cant wait to get my opo, how long does it take to ship, on average?
few hours. should b in ur hands by the end of the night
Thanks for your useful insight
Gahh I cant wait to get my opo, how long does it take to ship, on average?
Depends on where you are at. IIRC the place they ship it from in USA is in LA. Usually it takes like 2-7 days, mine arrived in 2 days in Eastern Canada.
it's like asking how long a piece of string is, logistics companies are all really different, and it depends what day you ordered it [editline]28th December 2014[/editline] mine took three days
I just asked the average, Iirc somw people didn't get theirs for weeks, others like you got theirs in 3 days. I'm on the west coast so it'll probably come next week. I just hope I get it before New years. I think the office at my apt complex is closed that day and the next
Damn, I pay £30 a month for Unlimited Data, Unlimited texts and 500 minutes with a Moto X on T-Mobile, damn you guys have it bad.
Canada is borderline hopeless
What is the standard Android file system?
10 seconds on Google.. Today most common storage is emmc (managed nand), for such devices ext4 is far more popular, but, this file system is slowly clears its way for f2fs (flash friendly fs).
How fast is it T-Mobile is the least shitty carrier in the US
Very fast. T-Mobile In the UK paired up with Orange (another network provider) a few years back and then not too recently merged to EE, my last 2 year was on Orange so I had 3G signal mostly everywhere and it's enough to watch Netflix, so its still the same.
My friend is trying to buy OPO, but website says It's out of stock, how long till it's restocked anyone knows?
Well then, Camera FV-5 recently launched an update where manual shutter speed is possible with the OnePlus One, without Android 5.0. It's also has a pretty good manual controls system for the Nexus 5 for manual focus, better than L Camera in terms of user interface.
New: added manual exposure capabilities to the OnePlus One. The manual exposure mode replaces the old exposure toolbar, and is available in the shutter speed priority mode (S) on the left side of the viewfinder. The new mode lets you select the exposure time accurately between 1/5000" and 60 seconds, in full, half and one-third EV stop.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.pro Now to wait for RAW support and 4K support with their awesome camcorder app, Cinema FV-5
wait, so you can do a 60 sec exposure? [editline]edit[/editline] it says that long eposures are just some weird hacky thing using the viewport. it is just that or are they actually doing it properly?
They're doing it properly. Full 13mp image, no hacky 1080p max resolution (because how they and other camera app developers did was record multiple frames and slap them together in post processing, which only went up to 1080p). There was an 8 second max exposure mode in the stock CM camera app (which crashed when you enable raw dng output), with camera fv-5 it's max 60 seconds which is hilariously amazing.
What do you guys think of this? http://www.engadget.com/2014/12/23/meizu-m1-note-iphone-5c-rip-off/
