As unspecified, yes. MSM8960
I'm sure this is asked all the time, but what's the best Android phone on the market offered by AT&T in the States? I have a shitty iPhone 4 refurb w/ jailbreak and it sucks (even without jailbreak). I'm elligible for an upgrade and down to pay for whatever's out there. Top 3 list please? I'd like it to be fast and functional, some reviews I read were talking about how they weren't good for gaming, but I hardly play games on my phone. Also, who partakes in "gaming" on a phone anyways.
In no particular order: HTC One Galaxy S4 And that's about it right now. They're both excellent phones. Read up on reviews and decide which one you like better; there's no clear-cut winner for everybody. The S4 has better battery life & removable battery, expandable storage, a beautiful screen (better in my opinion that the HTC,) a better camera for situations with good lighting, more gimmicks, and more raw power. The HTC One is slightly less powerful, is a fucking sexy phone with better materials and to some a better UI, a better camera for low-light conditions, and the possibility of official AOSP support for early adopters. (It's worth mentioning that the difference in power is marginal at best.) There's a lot to consider, so take your time and figure out which device you like better.
Did you install the official Samsung USB drivers?
Unsure; [re?]installing just in case. [editline]4th June 2013[/editline] Ok that worked. Now this happened: It normal rebooted. I didn't get a "pass" like the guide says. Is this a problem? [editline]4th June 2013[/editline] Terminal returns getprop ro.bootloader as the proper kernel. Did I win?
That looks like it did the trick, but I'm not familiar with that version of Odin so I'm not 100% on that.
I reflashed just to make sure. Same result. I think I'm okay.
So who makes a good portable USB battery charger for the money? I'm not looking for anything amazing, just something somewhat compact to slip into a suitcase or backpack that can get me through an extra day or two in emergencies.
http://www.amazon.com/cell-phones-accessories/dp/B0067UPRQ4 This is what I've had for a year. Or at least something close, it seems that this is a newer revision (but identical in every way except for aethestetics). Works really well in a pinch in and the build quality is quite good (its not some ridiculously cheap plastic thing). Still holds a charge really well, and the flashlight function is pretty nifty too. Plus, its the epitome of non-proprietary. It has normal USB ports and charges off a microUSB port, so you don't have to use the supplied charger. Which is good, because I have a VZW Galaxy Nexus and you can watch the battery drain.

PSA: Do not bother spending money on FPse; RetroArch does it just as well (if not better,) in my experience, and is 100% F&OS https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.retroarch
People who think Touchwiz is the be all and end all of Android make me so Incredibly ANGRY!!! TOUCHWIZ IS NOT ANDROID! IT IS A SKIN! HOLO IS ANDROID!!!
So I was using my mom's nokia x7, looked at the nokia store, oh wow.
Seriously. This guy was complaining about that multitude of login screens he got when he unboxed his S4 (one google, one Samsung, and one AT&T). This other asshole was all "this is why I'll never own an Android phone"
So I was using my mom's nokia x7, looked at the nokia store, oh wow.
I told a chick on tumblr she needed to go to the play store to get an app. She thought the Samsung app store was the only one on the phone. That's when I fully realized Samsung's intentions.
No, I want a portable battery pack for charging that I can plug USB devices into.
Anker is the best.
is it just me or is go sms pro notifications messed up? like i click on the notification to open the app and I get the same notification again.
If you've never tried/havent recently tried Sliding Messaging, you may check it out. It's still beta, but it has changed sooooo much in the past month and a half or so.
Actually, despite the extra 300mAh on the S4, it doesn't always get the best battery life for me. The AMOLED screen does suck up a decent chunk of battery. Then again, most of my apps are set to their light themes because I'd barely be able to see the dark in sunlight. YMMV.
If you've never tried/havent recently tried Sliding Messaging, you may check it out. It's still beta, but it has changed sooooo much in the past month and a half or so.
I'll give it a try right now.
It may be a bit buggy, but its in beta. Also, I don't know how it will behave on potatoe...
Also, I don't know how it will behave on potatoe...
Come on know, how long have you known the state of my potato?
I haven't been following the state of your potato, but have you tried Facebook Messenger? Actually, I don't even know if they allow SMS for any device on something less than 4.0. May be worth a try though.
Come on know, how long have you known the state of my potato?
lol, yeah... I forgot you had it when I suggested sliding. You should still give it a shot, though, just for the hell of it. May surprise you.

Can the messenger do voice or video calls yet? My potato is 4.0.4 but I don't like Facebook anymore.
Nope. It doesn't do voice or video yet. You can make voice calls through Facebook directly, though (again, some devices only IIRC).
any third party apps that support skype? imo got booted off apparently.
I'm so done. I'm to the point where I'm just lining people the fuck out. [thumb]http://i.minus.com/ifbyxSIwyPqGt.png[/thumb]
You lost me at Oppo Find 5 being basically the iPhone. A better comparison would be the One IMO since it has similar build quality, looks, and is around the same size as the Find anyway. I see his point about Androids being bigger than the iPhone - a lot of good Androids are massive. There is still no competition to the iPhone's size in the Android world. But yeah, his point is kind of retarded. "I don't need all that power in my pocket." I'd understand if he's going for a minimalist approach where he doesn't want his phone to be able to do everything, but come on.
Yes I buy my games from Steam no matter what, big deal. I've decided that I will not bother with a new phone because apparently even the HTC one overheats. I'm just gonna keep the shitty Note II and hoping for a better future in phones quality.
The One doesn't really overheat. No throttling and internal temps stay low. It definitely means that you will feel the heat in your hands though.
