Oh for fucks sake, I dropped my phone in the bathroom, while it has a protective case, and the screen has broken [editline]11th June 2013[/editline] All of the cheap phones I have last till the end of time, but as soon as I get my hands on an expensive galaxy S3 I've totaled it within 6 months, I'm an idiot
Don't feel bad. The GS3's glass has the shittiest design on earth because the plastic bezel around it doesn't go above the glass, and it's a very flexible plastic so it easily deforms to do side hits on the glass.
I would buy it, but I exclusively use streaming services for music because I'm neither an audiophile or particularly far from a wireless network. That said, Google Music All Access has a fair share of problems. Skipping, songs abruptly ending. At least they didn't rip anything from a floppy or 84kbps MP3.
My biggest issue with Google Music is that for no reason at all, even if my mobile internet connection is just fine, it will sit there infinitely loading a song. Really annoying since it tends to this on mobile data (especially 3G) while I'm driving. Also the "Explore" feature needs work. Its a good start, but they have plenty of music that doesn't even get a second glance in Explore lists. You sort of have to know what song or who your looking for. That's a bit annoying for me, since I tend to like browsing through catalogs to find what they have and spark interest, which so far is limited to the "related artists" feature. When it works, its a fantastic service though, especially for like $8. I've listened to plenty of music I wouldn't ordinarily buy.
Debating to get a GSIV from my provider once I get my paycheque on friday or wait until the Google GSIV on the 26th and preorder it from Canada (cause it's US only, would that cause problems in terms of connectivity with towers?)... If I wanted to use the phone for say, developing applications (just as a beginner) as well as watch movies/play the occasional game/heavy music listening, would it really matter if I had the Google GSIV? How's the touchWiz interface as opposed to the google stock interface? This would be my first android phone (after avidly (read: stupidly) getting Blackberries) so I'm going in a bit softer than other people who have picked up their third or fourth android phone :P For people who preordered the Nexus 4... How long did it take you to get your phone? I assume from the big Nexus 4 "not enough supply" debacle that possibly getting the Google SIV is going to be a bit of a torturous adventure as well.

TouchWiz does have more useful buttons in the notification shade which does not exist in stock but exists in CM10.1/AOKP Also the recent apps menu is much better on TouchWiz than stock, you actually get buttons to do shit. And then to sum it up, on TouchWiz you get all that fancy shit like multi-window multitasking and Samsung apps.

I'm probably not going to because I'm so undereducated on it but I'm just wondering for the future.
Looks like I'll be buying the whole front half of the S3 as soon as I get the money [editline]11th June 2013[/editline] And then wrapping my entire body and phone in bubble wrap and only travelling at a slow walking speed
Wow, it's like I have exactly the same life as you. Except I broke my S3 screen three months after getting it. I replaced the whole front half myself. Pretty satisfying. (And yeah, even with a case, you have to be really careful with the S3. From my testing, I've concluded that the glass is pretty damn strong but the AMOLED panel is so god damn brittle you could break it just by touching the phone to your ear)
So if I want to preserve text messages and shit so I have them after I install a new ROM, what's the best backup program for this? TitaniumBackup still reigns king?
Check out Helium. It works pretty well for me, and it has a much simpler UI IMO.
Check out Helium. It works pretty well for me, and it has a much simpler UI IMO.
Helium is also 100% #HOLO, so embrace your inner Nexus warrior today.
Ahhhh I'm installing a new rom and this customization shit before is so cool. And the touchscreen recovery! I remember everything being via the volume rocker on my Xoom.
Is it that touch fork of CWM or is it that new one XDA's been raving about recently and I forget the name of
Is it that touch fork of CWM or is it that new one XDA's been raving about recently and I forget the name of
Teamwin?
I dunno. It's called Team Win Recovery Project or something and the installer I'm referencing is Aroma I think. And christ, this new ROM makes a world of difference in speed. And I swear text is sharper. I'm sold. [editline]11th June 2013[/editline] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048013 Text totally is sharper. Everything else is too. And there's no more greeble on my notification bar!
TWRP is the best recovery ever. Not just because of the touch, but I just find it way more stable and widely compatible.
TWRP is the best recovery ever. Right when you finish installing, theres an option to clear caches and reboot right into system.
It's been a while since I installed a custom rom (Android 2.X). Is there anything special I'd have to do to install paranoid android over cyanogenmod 10.1 rc5? The phone is a galaxy nexus with clockwork recovery. I just need to clear everything before and after right?
yeah, do a factory reset, flash it on, clear caches, and then flash gapps if you haven't already
Cool, nice and simple as always. Thanks! I heard cyanogenmod has some weird way of formatting the SD. Would that be a problem with flashing or no? Data on the card is otherwise useless.
I haven't heard of it, probably won't be an issue but I'd certainly look into it a bit.
It was something about certain files being in microsd/0/ instead of just microsd/. I think it was cache files or configs or something though. But I'll check it out. Thanks again.
Can anyone recommend me a good rom for EVO 3D? I currently have some custom cyanogenmod and it's buggy (sometimes the phone just doesn't unlock at all, and the call speaker volume is always at the maximum)
It was something about certain files being in microsd/0/ instead of just microsd/. I think it was cache files or configs or something though. But I'll check it out. Thanks again.
That has to do with the fact that JellyBean has multi-user support. Each user gets their own home directory. Though it certainly does not touch the external sd card like you're suggesting.

The roms below are for CDMA (Since that's what I have). If you want 4.2, your choice is either Unofficial CM10.1 from dastin1015, PAC (CM10.1, ParanoidAndroid, and AOKP) from cmbaughman, or Dirty Unicorns (Unofficial AOKP) from Mazda. They are all relatively stable, but I've been using CM10.1 for about a month now. PAC updates like 2-3 times a week, if you like flashing often. If you want 4.1.2 just go with Unofficial AOKP from Team D.I.R.T. Its probably the most stable non stock built rom. Oh, and Slim Bean is a really great rom too. If you want Ice Cream Sandwich which is arguably the most stable roms since they are built from offical releases, then there are a ton to choose from. Try to find something as bare-bones as possible, like with Sense removed. If you like sense, then there are lots of options too.
Well I've been using MIUI (the ics version IIRC) for like half of a year, then it became kinda slow for some reason. I should've just wiped everything and reinstalled it, but I installed unofficial cm10.1. and boy it is buggy for me [editline]12th June 2013[/editline] I'll try the newest jb version of MIUI
Is it the GSM or the CDMA version?
GSM [sp]there's no CDMA in Russia, if you didn't know[/sp]
GSM [sp]there's no CDMA in Russia, if you didn't know[/sp]
I only know of the US and Canada using CDMA really. GSM is even a legal requirement in Europe, CDMA isn't allowed.
GSM [sp]there's no CDMA in Russia, if you didn't know[/sp]
Okay, then I would suggest the latest version of CM10.1 by dastin1015 and johnnyslt. They just fixed some important stuff yesterday actually. Download XDA thread [sp]even if I had the forethought to look at your flag, the flags aren't necessarily correct... but I'll remember you're from Russia now![/sp]
I know somebody here works in a phone store, but if anybody else knows the answer that'd be great Is there any way to unlock a Nokia E63 locked to virgin mobile in the Uk without paying a company? (it's only £10 but free is always good)
there's no CDMA in Russia, if you didn't know
Are you sure? Skylink seems to use 1X and EV-DO, which are forms of CDMA. [editline]12th June 2013[/editline]
I know somebody here works in a phone store, but if anybody else knows the answer that'd be great Is there any way to unlock a Nokia E63 locked to virgin mobile in the Uk without paying a company?
Check out Helium. It works pretty well for me, and it has a much simpler UI IMO.
Hm, so it's basically Titianium back up but simpler eh. Helium probably could replace titanium backup then.
