[QUOTE=GoldenDargon;39525944]HD 5870, and i'd like something that'd be able to run Skyrim maxed out, with the hi-res texture pack, and a high quality ENB with smooth FPS.[/QUOTE]
Anyone?

Fuck you this is my thread
I've installed the Gigabyte 7870 and that Rosewill PSU. I want to do some overclocking but I don't know where to start. Should I use Afterburner or the Gigabyte software? I mostly want to increase my cpu voltage, it's a phenom ii x4 810 2.6ghz and I'd like to get it up to around 3 or so. Don't want to do it improperly though. Anyone an expert?
Take it slow for now, like a female on the first date. You feel me? When she starts gettin gross and can't do what you want her too then you give that little performance boost.
Also your CPU is bottlenecking so overclocking won't give an amazing increase.

Wait maybe I read that wrong the first time, thought you meant GPU overclocking. Ask someone else, I haven't used and CPU overclocking software because I can't overclock my CPU.
Yup, not too worried about the GPU for now. Don't know what to adjust alongside the voltage, or what to change first. I did set Afterburner up for overclocking (edited the .cfg to unlock it), don't want to jump to any guides without getting some advice here first.
I currently have 8gb of DDR2 800 RAM (mobo doesn't support DDR3, fuck my life). Would this seriously hold me back in any way? Should I still overclock? And if I do, should I OC the RAM too?
Well you're going to be pretty much bottlenecked anyways.
I have a question myself. I want to upgrade my GPU from a 560ti to a 670, would that transition be worth it? I don't want to get a ATI card as i can use the bonus i get from the 670, considering i don't play any games that aren't ftp while i'm in college. the games would most likely just sit there for a long time without even being played.

ordered a new mobo and 6 core cpu (with aftermarket cooler), and replacing my ddr2 with ddr3

i realize the mobo could be better but i've been repping a gigabyte all this time and i don't have a problem with it.

be prepared for the flak you're gonna get by not getting intel, but the i3-3220 is a better all around processor than the FX-6300.
i suppose, but it would be nice to have the extra cores for my needs (gaming, video editing, multiple tasks etc.), and it would be pretty easy to overclock. idk, it wasnt really out of my price range, and i've heard great things about it

Ehehe, believe me - gaming is just gonna get worse. Many tasks can probaly be countered by a decent i3.
Many people here on the forums refuse buying one of AMD's "high-end" processors. They get maybe 20fps lower (or sometimes even more) than a i5 with everything the same except the motherboard & cpu
how could it possibly get worse, my current cpu bottlenecks the shit out of my gpu
[editline]25th February 2013[/editline]
they're honestly pretty much on par after an overclock on the 6300
[editline]25th February 2013[/editline]
also more cores

It's a horrible architecture.. Everyone who's been on PC building for a while will achknowledge.
I have a i5 2500k, I render stuff in no time.
Anything higher than 4 cores doesn't make sense unless you're doing computing.
i3 equilivant price wise - let me find some more

whatever dude. i'm sure your i5 is wonderful. as far as i'm concerned, the fx 6300 is more than enough for what i need, especially for the price, and i've heard plenty of reviews that say the same.
[editline]25th February 2013[/editline]
and it's already shipping so i'm not really about to stress about it. i will press on, somehow...

oh wow they both do a really great job, guess i fucked up
more cores doesn't always mean more processing power. it'd be a great chip for the price if it was on new architecture though.
you're still going to be getting rid of your bottleneck either way so if you're alright with your purchase then that's all that matters man.
i'm not denying the fact that the i3 is a much more efficient processor, i just don't really care
