Y'know, this thread reminded me of an article I once read about how the 3.5" floppy was remarkably well-designed for usability - how it could only go in one way, etc.
I wish I could find it - anybody got a link?
Went to an iFixit seminar and got 3 packs of like every screwdriver bit imaginable
laptops without a 10-key.
Automotive screws or whatever the fuck they are on the clamp that holds down my lava lamp's light bulb.
USB ports that are so close that anything larger than a minimalist USB connection (aka a Flash drive) overlap and so can only use one at a time.
really thick bezels on a laptop

holy shit so annoying when you realize they do that to get extra keyboard space
typing is comfortable though :3

The whole front end of that thing is butt ugly, the rest is fine though.

did it include a Pozidriv bit?

Honestly, the design of the front aids in comfort when using the touchpad

wouldn't a philips driver work on that... or is the WHITE space the part the screwdriver fits into? :raise:
wouldn't a philips driver work on that... or is the WHITE space the part the screwdriver fits into? :raise:
It's not the white space. And, while Phillips drivers will work, it's "not recommended":
"Phillips screwdrivers will fit in and turn Pozidriv screws, but will cam out if enough torque is applied, potentially damaging the screw head."
In my friend's Nissan Maxima, they use the standard A/V White/Red RCA inputs instead of a normal headphone jack for AUX input. Its not horribly bad, since its not like its proprietary, but it pretty much goes against what most cars have for AUX in on their radios.
Wii only sporting 480i/p. :colbert:
Cars with radios with an AUX button, but no aux input hole (so you have to go to the garage to get it installed)
Wii only sporting 480i/p. :colbert:
I'd say it's kind of a smart move on their part. Less time obsessing over sweat-drops on your Mii during boxing and more on developing stuff that matters

That's for if you install, for example, an internal satellite radio, among others. The AUX inputs are those RCA cables and they are hidden behind it.

Until you see the top. And how the monitor could be more than an inch larger.
Mechanical write protection switches on SD cards. Not even floppy disks used that.
Not to mention that "switch broke off" equals can't write.

If you buy an alienware laptop, you are probably buying it for gaming.
If you are buying a laptop for gaming, you are nuts to be using the fucking trackpad.

Uh, what did you think the "read-only tab" on a 3.5" was? Read-only == write protect.
I do agree that "broken" should default to writeable, but that's not really a huge issue - I've never heard of one breaking before now.

Trackpad gaming = challenge mode. Because if you can pwn with that, you can pwn with anything.

Is that sarcasm? I would rather some bezel if I had a standard sized keyboard and if it was used to increase durability. I think that's the M11X, which in that case needs to be wider to fit that keyboard.

It's a common issue. My card reader seems to have slightly bent contacts for the write protection and it completely dismantled one card and broke the switch on another.
The floppy system is usually optical.

I used my old HP laptop when I first got into PC gaming.
I could still ace Audiosurf with it while anyone else I talked to that tried to play it with a trackpad ultimately failed.
After I got used to a mouse, I started kicking even more ass.
After my wrist stopped feeling like it was being sawed off with a rusty knife from trying to adapt to using a mouse.

Did I seriously just start two sentences with "after"?

I need to start working at the redundancy department of redundancy..
NVM, stupid post.
One good things about CRT's, better blacks.
CRT monitors left at least twenty black marks on my wall. My desk is close to my wall, and it would always hit it (no I do not shake my desk that much). It got annoying and it whored all the space on my desk.
On my LCD screen, whenever there is a completely black screen, you can see blue lights at the top, bottom, left, and right sides of the screen. It's not a really bright light, but more of a glow. I think it's part of having an LCD monitor, though.
That's not an asshole design move, that's backlight bleeding.

Why didn't you ever move the monitor forward, or stuck foam/bubblewrap/cat pelts on the back?
How itunes doesn't sell fucking mp3s by default.
How you don't own the rights to games you purchase.
