Guess what
Never broke a usb port on a computer before today.
Read thread "Never gonna happen"
whaddyafuckinknow
Well I've never broken a USB port period, and I hope to keep it that way. I always take care with long USB drives to not bend them or put pressure on them, never pull the cords sideways, always push gently to see if it is right way up. I take good care of my babies :h:
I've only broken 1 USB port... I had a flash drive plugged into the bottom front of the tower and forgot about it, and tipped the tower forward to plug in my handycam to the Firewire, and when I was done, I realized that I had just fucked that port up. :frown:

<insert joke about macs costing as much as children here>
Nah, just messin' with ya.
Now on topic. Flip video cameras. Whos dumbfuck idea was it to have them dangle from the USB port?
Flip cameras suck anyway

The same one that realized that you'd need to buy another one if you broke it
Glossy monitors, When I look at the screen I want to see my desktop, not myself.
Proprietary screws.
ex. - Nintendo uses a strange 3 pronged screw
That's not proprietary. These are temper/security screws, and are not meant to be opened by unauthorized personnel.
I fucking HATE it when manufacturers use bright-as-fuck LEDs when it really isn't necessary
The Dell XPS M1530. The area around the keybaord is made of brushed aluminium, which conducts heat. There's a heatsink directly under where you'd place your left palm when typing.

Back when I had my Dell Studio 1537, the charger had an end plug with a blue LED that lit up my whole fucking room.

I have one and it's really not that bright.

I usually keep the lights off in my office. If I turn my monitors off and stand up I get assaulted by my dad's case from across the friggin' room. This also sucks because I have a tenancy to sleep at the office right now (it's our own place, so whatever), and my computer's got LEDs on it so bright that even covering them with my hat doesn't prevent them from being noticeable through my eyelids
I really hate the current trend of making everything so slim. Seriously, what's with a lot of companies making portable devices like 3 milimeters wide and even brag about it? In my opinion anything with a width below 1 centimeter looks like it's gonna break apart like a potato chip if you put it in your pocket or in a bag.
Man, e-book devices and iPads/other thin tablet PCs scare me because of this, they look sooo fragile...

Convenience. These devices are made to be used on the go, so having a small device is useful.
On the subject of slim, the new xbox looks terrible compared to the elite model.

Wii Remote charger I have in the lounge room, the damn whole room has this strange blue glow coming from under the TV, it's 5m from one side to the other and the floor still has this blue tinge

I agree, but there is a limit on how small a device can be without destroying functionality, and most products are doing this now, Just a shitty "OOH SHINY AND SMALL, BUY IT" ploy.

Looks like Alienware cross XBox.

A bit like the track pad on the Toshiba a210, it gets ungodly hot. I don't use the track pad anymore, though, because the ribbon connector burst into flames because I put it back wrong after fixing it's screen.

I personally think it looks better..
Not like Alienware, which I agree is just dickish 12 year old appeal..
But sleek.

My computer's on/off button lights up the entire room.

Portable things doesn't need to be too slim, I remember my old Packard Bell MP3 player being pretty thick (a bit more than 1 centimeter) and it was perfect for me, it even had space for a SD slot.
Wide/thick devices give a impression of resistance and durability, so that's why I prefer them over very thin devices

I don't like its weird angular shape, but I don't think it's that bad
It's probably been said, but:
fucking flat-ass fucking keyboards. ESPECIALLY those new piss-head=minimalist Mac keyboards.
I like to know that I've pressed a key. I want a tippy tappy noise. I want to feel the key MOVE. I do NOT want an inch-thick bit of metal with white squares painted on.
Apple what are you even doing.
[editline]15th March 2011[/editline]
Also touchscreens. I like to know what I'm touching while I'm not looking. I like being able to reach into my pocket and hit the 'next track' button without speed dialing half of my contacts and ordering a pizza online accidentally.

You know what? Fuck technology.
Where my tree hut at.

Each to their own, I suppose. I prefer slimline keyboards, I brought a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard because I liked the key shape.
I dislike touch type on standard keys, My fingers trip and miss-hit keys all the time.

One of the tabs in my case's USB ports just broke off. The microphone jack stopped working after a few weeks. I did build this in 2009, though it sure as hell better last longer than that.
Damn you Cooler Master.
I have EXACTLY the same problems with my Cooler Master. My right USB port broke (that plastic thing broke) and since I didn't notice it I somehow bent the metal thingies and almost broke my camera but I took it out when it smelled like hot electronics.
And my headphones jack only works when I cramp the jack up like a motherfucker . I have to stick a pack opf paper tissues under it. Same with the mic.

You can blame Apple for flat keyboard keys and glossy monitors becoming mainstream.
You can blame Apple for flat keyboard keys and glossy monitors becoming mainstream.
I actually like the flat keyboards. I hate the old 1cm thick keys. The best keyboard I've ever used is on my Cr-48. If only they had a full keyboard like that. (Yes, I am aware that apple keyboards are the same, but I want an extended one that has all necessary buttons, including a number pad, and goes with the aesthetics of my black computer.
I do hate the glossy monitors though.
You can blame Apple for flat keyboard keys and glossy monitors becoming mainstream.
Glossy monitors improve contrast. Just don't sit with a window behind you or draw the curtains. Matte screens are still completely worthless in sunlight. The only disadvantage to a glossy screen is it gets dirtier easier, but just keep a micro fiber cloth on your desk.

you say that like chiclet keyboards are a bad thing.

Since my BlackWidow (Razer's inexpensive mechanical keyboard) died and I'm going through the long process of dealing with their mediocre support reps, I've been using my iMac's Bluetooth keyboard. I would rather deal with that keyboard than a rubber dome keyboard any day.
