I really hate the current trend of making everything so slim. Seriously, what's with a lot of companies making portable devices like 3 milimeters wide and even brag about it? In my opinion anything with a width below 1 centimeter looks like it's gonna break apart like a potato chip if you put it in your pocket or in a bag.
Man, e-book devices and iPads/other thin tablet PCs scare me because of this, they look sooo fragile...
I agree with this particularly on phones. They make them thinner and thinner when they could just make the electronics slimmer, put in a bigger battery with the new-found free space they've created and make a phone that lasts more than 4 hours on a charge. That and I lost count on how many Razors my little brother's gone through while I had a cheapy "pay as you go" phone for well over 6 years before the charging cable finally broke on it.
Seriously, the whole "it's more portable" excuse is stupid considering that it's not a big deal to lose a whole 7 cubic centimeters in your pocket/"man bag". Unless you're one of those trendy douchenozzles that wears skinny jeans. (I didn't know they sold denim in spray-cans these days)
The DELL cases that open like a sideways clamshell. They're a bitch-tit to work inside of. :suicide:

Oh god those dells :gonk:
I had to gut one EXACTLY like that until it was just metal case
My hands looked like they had a fight with a beltsander.

Originally, they were.

Today they are at least a bit better.

I wear skinny jeans and my phone is atleast 1cm thick.
But I think the shitty desgin moves are touch-sensitive buttons on your non-touchscreen phone.
Yeah, It looks awesome, but if you mistouch then it fucks up.
I have called like 3 times to my teacher, because I mis-touch my call button. Contacts and then call, fuck shit up easily.
And then there are shitty phones where you can't change how your menu looks. Or atleast what buttons do. I can't change those on my Samsung E900. I DON'T WANT MY MIDDLE BUTTON TO GO TO WEB, I WANT TO OPEN MENU WITH IT. Damn you, bad desginers!
And then phones, what keep the display on when you are charging it. It disturbs me when I sleep! And I can't turn it off on my phone, for some fuckwad reason. Shitty phoneos. Maybe it is fixed in CFW but not going to install it by being scared about getting my phone bricked.
you say that like chiclet keyboards are a bad thing.
In my opinion, they are. It just doesn't feel good to me to have to press completely flat buttons, compared to concave keys that have a lot of give.
Glossy monitors improve contrast. Just don't sit with a window behind you or draw the curtains. Matte screens are still completely worthless in sunlight. The only disadvantage to a glossy screen is it gets dirtier easier, but just keep a micro fiber cloth on your desk.
Sure, but glossy monitors also cause horribly inaccurate colors versus matte's highly superior color accuracy. My main display has a glossy finish and I have no troubles with it, but in my eyes, a monitor with a glossy finish is inferior and has more cons than pros in comparison to a matte-finished screen.
Those bulky plug connection (commonly found for cellphones) that not only physically take up 2 of the slots on your powerstrip, but the cable that comes out the bottom makes the 3rd a pain in the ass to attempt to use. (Which is why everyone tries to put them on the last slot of the power strip... BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE!?)
This motherfucker right here

I can't stand them. I prefer either scissor switch or mechanical.

It can't be that hard to just like, design it so the plugs point upward instead of at a 90° angle...

The thing I really hate about my current phone (some cheap Nokia I bought from my provider) is that it has a voice-dial feature that I can't seem to turn off. You activate it by pressing down on both volume buttons, which are located OUTSIDE the phone, and as a result I've unintentionally called people so many fucking times because my pen/keys/whatever managed to get position just so that when I sat down it'd press those buttons.

Isn't scissor switch another word for chiclet keys?
[editline]14th March 2011[/editline]
I hate phone cases that take a thin phone and then make it really thick. Like my dad's iPhone 4 case.

Why can't they just put the giant block a foot or so down the cord and have a normal plug
I hate huge AC adapters
The wall sockets in other countries, why can't we all use the same wall socket? I wouldn't mind changing mine, as long as we had a standard. SHEESH, it's annoying as hell.

You'd still need converters because the voltage is different sometimes.

deal with it
also uk plug > all

If everyone used the same socket, I'm sure they'd also go through the trouble of using the same voltage as well.

Personally think UK plugs look strange. They're too large.

Its to keep people from plugging 120v devices in a 240v socket. Why didn't they make all mains voltage the same then? Well because. That's literally the logic behind the voltage differences.

Besides just the socket (over a dozen major types) and the voltage (100, 110, 120, 200, 220, 230, 240v common), you also have to keep in mind the frequency (50 or 60 Hz).

I did that once in class when our teacher used comic sans in her handout.
All she said was "Problem?"
Oh, I know the biggest, the worst asshole design move. The thing that almost makes me crap my pants in fear whenever I get something that uses it. The sort that makes me drop to my knees and shout 'WHYYYYYYY' like I'm in some sort of overly dramatic movie. It's the very bane of my existence and I will declare the day it's never used again to be an official fucking holiday. It's the only design move that has actually caused me physical harm. What I'm talking about?
Hard. Plastic. Packaging. The kind that require scissors to open, while putting scissors in the exact same sort of packaging. There is literally no way of opening this shit with your bare hands without cutting yourself in some way. I don't know a single person who has opened something with this sort of packaging without hurting themselves or swearing incoherently at some point.

Whoever thought that was a good idea needs to be fucking shot. How you're supposed to backspace if you actually use the home row keys I don't even know. It's such a pain to backspace even if you don't use the home row keys.

At least it's better than when plugs first came out you could go to the next town and they would be using a totally different plug type and voltage.
