Even with adblock, argh
Same shit goes for torrent sites... the big green download buttons are ads, with the torrent's link tiny and off to the side somewhere.
That shit actually works, my brother was trying to download a minecraft texture pack, and "realized he was downloading the wrong thing halfway through" and he ran the exe anyways.
I spent 3 hours trying to devirus his computer, a BSoD occurred whenever MBAM did a scan.

That's why you always carry a LiveCD anti-virus, like Dr.Web's.
Reminds me I need to install ClamAV on the Linux partition.
you can never be too careful

I just installed Avast. Same protection as it's Windows counterpart. :)
Avast
:geno:
I use Avast.
This ad showing up in Google images in about half the pictures i click on:

Google's a bunch of assholes lately...
Why would you want a single window mode, multiple windows is superior, which macs get with Photoshop, but windows doesn't.
It's fucking annoying, unless you're running a multi monitor setup.

Wait...
Avast for Linux exists?
My day is now complete.
clamd is much better for the purposes for which you'd need AV on Linux for (scanning incoming email, scanning Windows machines etc.)
Whoever made Revit's install directory option easy to skip over, I just got halfway through the install and had to cancel because it was sending to my C drive

AFAIK only for 32bit, but yeah, it's available for Linux.
Capacitive buttons on phones. GODDAMMIT EVERYTIME I PRESS FUCKING WRONG BUTTON BECAUSE OF THAT.
Cell phones becoming portable computers... I personally hate the fact that they're merging phones with laptops to create smartphones. Last time I checked, a phone was invented to call people, not send homosexual "tweets" to your homosexual friends. :|

How is it poor design to merge two devices into one, much smaller device? If anything, that's brilliant design. Though I don't really see how a smartphone is a laptop + phone, but whatever.
Avast's "database updated" notice sound.
"Ahh, what a nice day for browsing the Internet and listening to
DOONK
FUCK YOU I WAS WEARING HEADPHONES"
laptops on which the primary functions of the function keys have become adjusting brightness and volume, thereby requiring you to press alt+fn+f4 instead of just alt+f4
especially if the fn key on said laptop is in the bottom left corner, where ctrl should be instead

fucking rage

That's why I have a pirate voice for mine :smug:
Instead I get BELL BELL at 3 AM in the morning because I get throttleraped by my university's internet connection.
MSE 4 lyfe, it just stays in the notification area and changes colours when something's gone wrong.

If you have >100 smartness you can just avoid using anti-malware software altogether.

I really wish I knew enough to edit the registry for key bindings.
Why the FUCK would you have an insert key, but have printscreen bound as a function?
If you have >100 smartness you can just avoid using anti-malware software altogether.
Yeah, but the people who think they have >100 smartness are the most prone to getting viruses.
If you have >100 smartness you can just avoid using anti-malware software altogether.
No. This is absolutely a stupid idea.
I know my computer stuff. I can write in assembly language. I can make a logical gate out of nothing but transistors. I've built an SRAM cell from parts. I'm quite possibly a genius. My last three IQ tests averaged 132, on a 10-point standard deviation scale. In short, I'm not stupid.
I follow safe browsing practices. I don't fall for scams. I use Chrome or Firefox, not IE. I keep everything up-to-date. I don't blindly run executables. I use Adblock.
And I still sometimes get viruses. It happens. A known-good site gets hacked and starts pumping out malware. A zero-day drive-by hits you where you don't expect it. Shit happens.
The best defense (excluding a good offense) is defense in depth. Being a smart user is just your first line of defense. After that is having everything updated. But what if both of those fail? An AV is just another layer of defense, one that you'll quite often appreciate having.

Fair point, although I haven't been affected for years. I use non real-time methods of defence and they work fine (boot disks, whatnot.)
When's the last time you checked?
When's the last time you checked?
I format every 2 - 4 months, I usually do a 10 minute check every 2 weeks or so.

Ugh. Why can't they just make this disappear when it loses focus? It's the only issue I have with MSE's interface.
If you have >100 smartness you can just avoid using anti-malware software altogether.
Yeah well I used to not run one at all but I decided to get MSE because it kept staring at me in Windows Update so I did, it hasn't ever found anything. It's so unobtrusive that I don't mind at all, I even played a game while it was checking and I didn't notice any difference in performance.

Can be disabled, both with the Mixer in windows 7 and in Avast under settings.
It's still a annoying sound though, OH HEY I'M YOUR ANTIVIRUS, AND I WANT YOUR ATTENTION NO MATTER WHAT EVEN THOUGH THIS IS ONLY A MINOR UPDATE!!
