companies that say "Computers now a days are fast enough that we don't need to optimize them to run on anything below average" AKA Mojang and Minecraft. My Mac Mini from 6 years ago should be able to run it. Most netbooks should be able to run it. But on so many computers it just flips its shit and runs at 10 FPS despite having simpler graphics than fucking Quake.

My Eee PC can run even Garry's Mod better then Minecraft...
I say that because... Well damn, Minecraft won't even start on this thing. It just locks up java or my browser.

My terrible notebook with a Celeron M @ 1.8 Ghz and onboard graphics runs minecraft at 35 frames per second since the last update. Much better than the 10 frames per second I was getting before that :v:

Also my old moped. You'd think that older vehicles would be easier to maintain, but that was the only vehicle I've ever come across where the first step in changing an indicator light bulb (on the front cowling) was to take the back wheel off. It takes a sspecial kind of person to come up with shit like that...
Teabags without a string. So annoying.

I would like to introduce you to the spoon. It's what you're probably already using to add sugar and stir it all anyway.
That string is annoying as shit when it falls in.

yay minecraft :woop:
My rendering desktop(i7 870@4.2ghz + GTX 460 1gb) used to get 350 on average now it gets 200 with the update. :what:
I vsynced my Minecraft so my computer's fan doesn't go apeshit for no reason.
On the topic of asshole designflaws: Fan controllers that are poorly made. I once used a Lenovo netbook where when idling, the fan kept going on, then off, then on again, then off again and so on. Fucking annoying.
Excel not having a separate option to add vertical & horizontal error bars. Now you add vertical ones, and the horizontal ones are huge so you select those and you can adjust them. Sometimes though you set them too small, so they're too small to select again so you have to start all over again.
Also, the standard data point in a chart in Excel is this huge fucking blue diamond, why not a simple black point???
Also, big one coming up:

I imagine it is a limitation with the flash player. As when I used flash to play videos it did the exact same thing.
What is with Youtube and their multiple player skins anyway? why arn't they all the same?
This, its fucking annoying especially when the skin doesn't have buttons like disabling retarded annotations or captions.

My roommate has an i5 laptop that does poorly with minecraft (he has an integrated intel graphics processor).
After the update it ended up helping him.
I actually get about 400fps in minecraft after the update, where as before I was getting shit. Sometimes it would even drop down to 20s.
how is that even possible?

It's because Quake doesn't have millions of blocks with hundreds of thousands of them being rendered. The last update improved that a lot though, it seems only blocks you can see are rendered now.

So is there any z fighting instead? I know before the rendering was based on the chunk you were in on the map and rendered everything in your front 180 degree FOV. Not rendering all the blocks that are inside of the mountain I'm looking at along with the backside will be good.
I think why it helps some and hurts other is that the call to render a block has a certain amount of time as a minimum. If you have ever worked with certain filters for things they always take a certain amount of time, like ATIs recent type of anti-aliasing which applies a slight blur filter based on contrast. that takes a constant time to do stuff, I think its 2ms or so, which means with that on the framerate will never be able to go past 500. They optimized the number of blocks rendered, but they still ask all the blocks that used to be rendered if they should or shouldn't. They need to optimize the number of calls made and it would run better. Minecraft is nice and granular so it should be easy to optimize the number of checks needed etc.
A good example of an asshole design move: Nikon and their AC adapters.
So I have my D3100, I thought that it would be useful to have an AC adapter for my camera for timelapses or something. I check Nikon's website and I need the EH-5A AC adapter, which goes for about $40-75 (Depends if you get an off-brand one from eBay or a genuine Nikon adapter). But wait, that's not all! I also need the EP-5A adapter which fits into my camera's battery bay and attaches to the EH-5A, that goes for about $35-40...
So in order to connect my camera to mains power, I need to pay about $75-110. I'm tempted to buy a cheap battery, take the voltage readings and find the correct wall wart for it. That's assuming there isn't some sort of bizarre chip in the battery...

AFAIK there IS a chip inside of the battery, but it should be easy to rip it out and shove it into a dummy battery that's hooked up to a DC adapter
Aye, there is a some sort of chip there.
I saw an article about some guy doing the same thing but just with a homemade battery thing that packed a serious load and lasted for ages.
I saw it on hackaday.com, pretty sure if you look for Nikon there, you'll find it.

I saw that, it was an Olympus and a Sony camera. Looking at my charger, there's five pins. No idea what they could possibly do, though I'm not very comfortable messing around with my $600 camera like that.
Try the old fizzle technique.

Not really an asshole design move, but does anyone else find it annoying that EVERYTHING is a side effect on medications?
I understand that medications have side effects... However, when the side effects are things like:
A medicine to rid you of depression... Side effect: May cause depression.
That isn't a side effect damn it!!! That just means the medicine didn't work. If you are taking it to get rid of depression, that means you are already depressed... Meaning if you take the medicine and you are still depressed it isn't a side effect it just means the shit doesn't work.
