Or Windows 7 Starter. You can't change the fucking background? I could do that on my PC 15 years ago.
Oh god this. I was working for Geeksquad when netbooks were getting real popular and you wouldn't believe the amount of ditzy women coming in complaining that they couldn't change the background on their stupid computer. A lot of them just couldn't really understand that it was a limitation implemented by Microsoft because they bought a computer with a garbage OS. Keep in mind these are the same people that put flower stickers all over their netbooks and call in asking "is that pink laptop still on sale" without knowing the model number or very basic specs.

Bunch of idiots there... Geeksquad is like the apple nuts, except at best buy.
Also, an asshole design? I went into an Apple store for the first time in my life to look around. 800 employee's standing around 10 costumers... I was in there for 2 seconds before I said fuck this because it was way to fucking crowded. Especially when it was packed full of people standing their with the look of
"Everything I do and have is superior to anything you could ever dream of"
Apparently, I also don't get how it would lag your entire browser. Maybe it was the way mine was implemented, but I think they ran on separate processes. The video could be crippling slow, but the browser responded perfectly.
Because it would hog CPU time, crippling the whole phone.
Why does my PC start up in the wrong resolution whenever windows updates?
What made anyone design a system like that?
Or Windows 7 Starter. You can't change the fucking background
Excuse me, what?
Windows 7 Starter does not include:
* Aero Glass, meaning you can only use the Windows Basic or other opaque themes. It also means you do not get Taskbar Previews or Aero Peek.
* Personalization features for changing desktop backgrounds, window colors, or sound schemes.
* The ability to switch between users without having to log off.
* 64 bit version
* Multi-monitor support.
* DVD playback.
* Windows Media Center for watching recorded TV or other media.
* Remote Media Streaming for streaming your music, videos, and recorded TV from your home computer.
* Domain support for business customers.
* XP Mode for those that want the ability to run older Windows XP programs on Windows 7.
Starter is crippled. Very, very crippled.
I dont understand Microsoft's different versions of Windows, one of the few things I like with OS X over Windows is that it is just one version, and not Starter. Home, Ultimate etc

I'm not a macfag, but I agree with this completely.

It's pretty simple, really. They make an OS, strip off the features in order of coolest to most basic, and make you pay $100 more for a kernel module that you should have gotten in the first place. It's like first-day DLC for a game, but even more expensive and frustrating.
It only cost me $70 (I think) to upgrade from starter to home premium on my netbook....
(Yes I'm a fucking faggot and use windows on a netbook instead of linux, so sue me)
I went looking for an email address so I could give the Youtube team a piece of my mind...instead I found this goldmine. We are not alone gentlemen, we are not alone.

Windows 7 actually runs nice on low-spec systems (as long as they aren't relics anyway), so no problems here.
Linux would perform better of course, but if you don't want to learn a new OS then whatever.
I tried installing mint but failed and fucked my MBR in the process. :doh:
So I gave up because I didn't wanna be the next FatFatFatty.
P.S. This only gets slow after loading something again that was opened quite a few hours ago. :v: (Like Skype or MSN's main window)

Well, in the case of my Atom+Ion netbook Ubuntu has been a pretty horrible experience. Fine on my desktop, awful on my netbook. NVIDIA's driver support is terrible, Flash runs like garbage so you have to watch YouTube videos in 240p, whereas in Windows you can play them at 1080p. Updating the drivers broke X or something, spent 3 hours Googling the problem and ended up just reinstalling the OS.
Games that require you to activate them before playing them at all.
Still, a slight annoyance in comparison to those bar codes where the 6 looks EXACTLY like a b and you spend three hours troubleshooting and emailing the support team before realizing and feeling like an idiot.
NVIDIA's driver support is terrible
Am I the only one in the history of the universe who has had amazing experiences with nVidia's proprietary drivers?! Jesus fuck, what's wrong here?!

Hmm, seems your package manager handles the nVidia drivers in a very shitty way - I get them in module form.
This is just horrible. No personalization? No switching users? No DVD playback?
the no dvd playback part made me laugh
Not like you would need DVD playback anyway. They mainly use it on netbooks.
The way games flip the fuck out on OSX when you minimize them instead of just switching focus to another window.

Apple, restricting users with proprietary connectors, firmware, software and hardware limiters?! That's unheard of! </sarcasm>
