Xbox uses a shitty proprietary 2.4 ghz connection. Wii and ps3 use bluetooth
Here's a fun fact.
Verizon blocks Bluetooth file transfers on their dumbphones. That's a pretty asshole design move.
I know for Blackberries you can't transfer from computer to phone as easily and they claim for security reasons. However, there are ways around it and there are ways to transfer from phone to computer.
Sorry guys, I was referencing this 1991 comic

I never realized how long the problem of "sinks that you must hold the knob or it shuts off" has existed.
Wash the button. Your life has suddenly changed. Unless, of course, you only have one arm. Yeah, asshole design move.
I must be fucking retarded because this "saying" doesn't make any sense to me in any context what-so-ever and damnit its pissing me off why would someone try to wash a hand without the other hand and what person thought they could do so in the first place and then had the balls to actually try and make it into a metaphor to try to make his/herself feel intelligent and that's right a woman with balls :smithicide:
This is even more ridiculous I'm done with this.
[img_thumb]http://eagle.undo.it:8083/img/exponentiate.png[/img_thumb]
What idiot thought it would be a good idea to use the "y" key to exponentiate? Are we using some design from when keyboards didn't have special symbols? This is two-thousand-fucking-eleven go to Bill Gate's facebook farm and pick some fucking carets god damn.
Another asshole move with the calculator
Scientific mode and programmer mode
Although programmer mode is usefull, having both in the same would be pure gold
Switcing between all the time is bloody rediclous

So that's why I can't use a normal mic with my Xbox, and gotta pay extra for an adapter to use my controllers? What the fuck Microsoft.
So that's why I can't use a normal mic with my Xbox, and gotta pay extra for an adapter to use my controllers? What the fuck Microsoft.
Xbox reigns king in proprietary land. It wasn't until recently that MS opened it up a little and allowed normal USB drives to be used for game data. The hard drive is a normal SATA drive, but on the old Xbox, it was covered behind a proprietary case and cover, and on the Slim model, it has a custom case.
Either way, you have to use specific drives.

Don't forget the custom firmware on the harddrives.

NICE.

Yep, that too. Although I found out there is a pretty easy way to flash a 250 GB WD drive to a normal 250 GB 360 drive. All it costs is $45 for the drive, plus shipping.

No, that is not the reason. The reason you cannot use your mic on the xbox controller is because most computer mics are 3.5mm but the xbox is 2.5mm, which is not proprietary.

The pin contacts on it could be. But then again, I can plug my 360 headset into my Vtech cordless phone's headset jack and it works fine, so I am assuming its pretty standard.

The 2.5mm jack on the controllers for the mic is a standard. I've used my headset from the original xbox with the 360 controllers and my phone.

Yeah, 2.5mm TRS audio is standard. It's not quite as common as 3.5mm or 6.35mm, but it's standard. And electrically compatible - all it takes is a cheap conversion sleeve to make it work.
And somehow, Apple manages to fuck even this up - the current iPods and iPhone use a TRRS connector, which I'm not sure is entirely compatible.

It is entirely compatible and not just Apple use it. Almost all smartphones have a TRRS socket. The extra ring is for the in-line microphone.

I think the old iPod Videos used it too, but the extra ring was for composite video out I believe.

The original videos did, I still have my A/V cable for it.

Though SOME smartphone manufacturers have a tendency to switch ground pin and microphone pin around.
Another asshole design move.
(can't remember which though)

I think Samsung and Nokia do it. Headphones with Mics and buttons designed for every other smartphone / MP3 player don't work (You need to hold the button down in order for sound to not sound muffled). As a temporary fix, I'm using an old headphone splitter with my Meelectronics earbuds on my Samsung Galaxy Spica.
We don't have self-checkouts here :smugdog:
Actually, we're always 2 years late with everything. You know that song, "Forget You" by Cee Lo Green?
Well a few weeks ago it was still a "new hit".
The only products we ever get on time are from apple. And even then, the iPad 2 was launched 2 weeks after the global launch :v:
You have self-checkouts in America? :psyduck:
You're giving the machines too much power!
ASDA's a UK thing, but yes we do in the US. I prefer them since the lines are usually shorter and I generally don't get much. Waiting for the attendent when something goes wrong sucks, though, it shouldn't take that long to address 4 peoples problems (they have 1 person per 4 self-checkouts)

We have some in Australia too, power isn't a problem, if you make a single mistake it makes somebody come over and fix it
