The fact that most apple product cables, from chargers to mice don't have the usual set up to prevent wear and tear at the ends. [img_thumb]http://images.letsbuyit.co.uk/original/78/50/apple-ipod-shuffle-usb-cable-10855078.jpeg[/img_thumb] I mean seriously, how hard can it be to put those little extra things on the end: [img_thumb]http://www.cable-trader.co.uk/images/items/USB%202.0%20type%20A%20to%20mini%20USB%20%28Sony,%20HP,%20Casio,%20Canon%29.jpg[/img_thumb]
What's even worse is how you can't charge the new iPods in normal USB chargers. It's ridiculous.
What's even worse is how you can't charge the new iPods in normal USB chargers. It's ridiculous.
Well you can, if you add some resistors. But that's just Apple being Apple (A.K.A. being assholes)

My laptop has a glossy keyboard. ...Why?
He's using a useragent spoofer to look funny

He's using a useragent spoofer to look funny
go be a killjoy somewhere else
Well you can, if you add some resistors. But that's just Apple being Apple (A.K.A. being assholes)
Actually, it's the standard thing to do. Apple are following the USB charging spec.
He's using a useragent spoofer to look funny
o hai there
Actually, it's the standard thing to do. Apple are following the USB charging spec.
Standard my hairy ass. The "rest" doesn't do that, or they offer support for "dumb" chargers too. If they can, Apple can too.
Standard my hairy ass. The "rest" doesn't do that, or they offer support for "dumb" chargers too. If they can, Apple can too.
Motorola does this sort of shit too. At least, that's how it was with my RAZR V3. You need drivers to charge your phone over USB. Interestingly enough, it wouldn't charge with the charger for my Droid Eris, but if you plug it into a TV USB port, its perfectly fine.
Standard my hairy ass. The "rest" doesn't do that, or they offer support for "dumb" chargers too. It may or may not have been done by apple just to make some more money off of official charging things, but it's still standard. Anti-asshole design move: This external HDD I'm copying shit from has one of those big white LED's in the front It's angled down so it only makes the table glow a bit around the front, not everything in a 5m radius And best of all. . . An adjustable brightness knob :buddy:
An adjustable brightness knob :buddy:
That reminds me: I hate how all switches these days are just buttons that rely on software. Why can't it be an actual physical knob? My laptop has a little volume knob which makes life 100x easier :buddy:

Simple "screw-over-the-customer" marketing.
Simple "screw-over-the-customer" marketing.
e.g: Windows 7 Basic

Simple "screw-over-the-customer" marketing.
I even notice this sort of shit with stuff like monitor brightness. Its annoying because most GUIs I've seen on monitors are slow and unresponsive. I remember when my old CRT monitor had a little flap that had all the knobs underneath. :smith:
Yeah the volume control could use some analog technology. It works better than software stuff (especially in games).
e.g: Windows 7 Basic
Because removing features that have been standard to all versions of Windows for over a decade makes perfect sense. :downs:
Yeah the volume control could use some analog technology. It works better than software stuff (especially in games).
Its especially annoying when the PC is booting up and has a loud start up noise you can't mute because the volume controls don't fucking work yet.
Yeah the volume control could use some analog technology.
Works for me, I'd rather the company save some money and provide the laptop for cheaper so I Can install my own OS on it rather than have to pay more money.
I would love to see more laptops come with Linux/Android preinstalled for cheaper because I end up reinstalling over the bloatware infested OS. Also the fact that I get the best versions of Windows (like 7 Ultimate) because my Dad's work gives him an MSDN subscription. :buddy:
:v: I do agree that I would prefer laptops to come with Linux as standard, and Windows as an additional cost.
Yeah, and with a choice of distros. Dell and Asus are the only ones that I've seen do this, and they both have hard-ons for Ubuntu.
debateable tbh, it would be odd having two volume controls - for windows and for the analogue one
I wind up having 3 usually, one for windows, one for Winamp, and an analog one on my speakers. I usually just keep Windows constant, and change the other two as needed (if winamp overpowers game dialog, turn it down. If too loud in general, use the knob).
:v:
I've been meaning to reinstall but I need to copy my Steam directory and po- movies. Yes movies. I'll probably do it when I have a weekend to kill.

pc manufacturers who assume that if a PC cant run aero, then it needs to run win7 basic windows 7 basic has a real purpose, computer manufacturers just use it wrong
pc manufacturers who assume that if a PC cant run aero, then it needs to run win7 basic windows 7 basic has a real purpose, computer manufacturers just use it wrong
To be fair, a computer that can't run aero is gonna be really basic. Most laptops can do it with integrated graphics.

I can't use code boxes to paste huge things anymore.

[editline]21st May 2011[/editline] don't think it requires drivers, or else the TV one wouldn't work.
See, that's the most peculiar thing. Just plugging it into a PC's USB port isn't good enough. It won't see the PC, or start charging, until the PC has drivers for it. But apparently, plugging it into a TV works perfectly fine. And it won't charge off certain chargers. Maybe mine just likes to fuck with me.
Standard my hairy ass. The "rest" doesn't do that, or they offer support for "dumb" chargers too. If they can, Apple can too.
It's not Apple's fault they are following the USB spec. All it takes is for charger manufacturers to include two resistors to tell the iPhone it is a dumb charger, and also how much current it can supply(i.e. PC USB ports can only supply 500mA typically, while most chargers can do 1A or even 2A). Every charger should do this. My Desire HD required it too, so it's not just Apple that are actually doing things properly.
