touchpads on laptops should turn off when you plug in a mouse.
Why is that? I find it annoying when they do that.
Why is that? I find it annoying when they do that.
Yeah, when you're typing it's usually quicker to move your thumb to the touchpad than to reach over and grab the mouse. Hell, I just did it right now (I was at the end of this, then decided to throw in this sentence). And if the trackpad is positioned right you won't be accidentally hitting it while typing.

On my laptop, if you keep your hands arms at a near 45 degree angle looking toward each other, it makes it very difficult to accidentally hit the trackpad. Also, disabling tap to click helps a lot if you accidentally touch it.

On my netbook, the track pad doesn't turn off if you plug in a mouse. I'm not too bothered by that. What bothers me is it doesn't turn off while you're typing. So many times I've been typing something out and touched the track pad with the gentlest touch and all of a sudden I'm typing somewhere else.
I;m typing this one handed, resting my palm literally /on the trackpad, I;m having more troublev reaching the keys, especially backspace, WITHOUT not hiting he trackpad.
The trackpad is not a problrm.

I agree with this. My palms sit left and right of it and unless I actively try to press my thumbs down I don't hit the track pad. I had a problem at one desk when the chair was really low so I was reaching up a little bit to type, but even resting my palm on the trackpad itself hasn't been an issue. It doesn't really register clicks. I guess if I was to slowly tap it while typing it could lead to some issues.

yeah but I'm talking about a netbook. especially when you're sitting on the floor with it on your lap, makes it difficult to not hit it.
I have an Acer laptop that I bought a few years ago at Walmart (I was desperate).
1. Volume wheel stopped working, so if it accidentally moves a little bit, my system volume spazzes out (which means it goes out of mute mode). I don't know why they chose to use a wheel in the first place. Should be mapped to a FN+key shortcut.
2. Built in mic never worked, as far as I know
3. Touchpad is a mess. Sometimes it will completely stop working. Other times, it will spaz out and move all over the screen and click like crazy on its own.
4. Video card can't handle the most basic shit. There's no way it could handle CS1.6
But it's good for work.
Still, the whole computer is one big asshole design move

The built-in mic on my Asus laptop is also useless. It technically works, but you can't hear anything unless I'm yelling. Completely useless in chat or gaming.

Try this: shut down laptop completely, unplug the power cord, and take out the battery. Wait 15 seconds, and put everything all back together.
It fixed mine.

With the proper trackpad drivers on my dell, horizontal and vertical scrolling works, and the trackpad disables itself while I'm typing, it isn't a problem.
Multimedia Keyboards with off buttons/switches on them.
I hate most multimedia keyboards in general. The one I'm using that came with my computer has a bunch of buttons that I can never see myself using. Why are there Sports and Finance buttons? I don't get it.
I understand having buttons like play, stop, skip, volume up, volume down, etc. on a keyboard, I use them all the time, but why the fuck are there all these useless buttons?
I always fucking hit the trackpad on my laptop when I'm typing.
My laptop has a turn off trackpad button. And there's an option to turn it off while typing.

I'm going to be devastated when this keyboard breaks, its my favorite one yet, it has every thing I need.
[editline]1st June 2011[/editline]
And somehow all the Razer, Logitech stuff looks a bit cheap and crap.

Most of those keyboards let you set the buttons to do whatever you want, and just leave the labels there as defaults. I'm assuming the Sports and Finance buttons open the Sports and Finance sections of some news site by default.

I have one of those without all the media keys, typing on it right now.

Media controls -> use the mouse.

How I've always found it, anyway.

My keyboard only has one extra button on it.
A fucking power button.

If you have cats like me you're fucked.

guide to taking out asshole keys:
step 1. get a bobby pin
2. jab that shit under the key
3. pull that bullshit out and do whatever the fuck you want with it
optional: cover that shit up
Really? I think there brilliant with the media controls, very handy, and comfortable.
Mine has no media keys but I really hate how it feels.
After a bit more than 1 year of use it feels like I'm typing on marshmallows, there's no response. The thick space bar is also pretty god damn annoying in my opinion.
I'd kill for a keyboard with media keys though :smith:

Have you tried fiddling with the microphone boost?

Mine could hear me when I was in an entirely different room when I turned it up a little ways. (faintly) :psyduck:

It's set to 100%, +30dB boost. And it still can barely hear me.
The Droid X comes with some shitty preinstalled apps that you can't remove without mods, such as Madden NFL 2011 and some other apps that you can't even use without paying extra for!

Yeah, most services do that. I know my sprint phone comes with a NASCAR app. :v:
