MXM-I is just a few more mm larger than an Expresscard slot. I wonder if its feasible to squish en entire GPU into an Expresscard with HDMI out.
Well getting a GPU in would be possible I think, cooling anything worth bothering with is a different matter though.
And what does MXM has anything to do with eGPUs?
I beleive he was just using the size of MXM-I as an example.
Very poor video, but you get the idea of the performance.
That's pretty fancy.
Wow that's a solid 60fps. Very nice!
crysis joke
crysis joke
I will install Crysis 3 overnight tonight and see how that performs.

How hot does the 650ti in there get, though? Can you actually use the temperature sensors or has your arrangement made them unusable?

Fix your parkistan syndrome and record another video
How hot does the 650ti in there get, though? Can you actually use the temperature sensors or has your arrangement made them unusable?
Been playing Borderlands 1 with a friend for about half an hour now, it's peaked at 54c. There are some larger vent holes at the back in addition to the small ones at the side. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/U1PQKbe.jpg[/img_thumb] With Furmark it hits 80c but the fan is not on max, however under games it never seems to get that hot, 60c at max. Please excuse my Dremel work, it was my first time with a Dremel on plastic. If I added some exhaust holes at the front and the other side, and more intake capacity it would probably be even cooler. The main problem is if the fan gets over a certain speed, it can't draw enough air through the intake, so it starts to cycle hot air around inside the box, causing a huge jump in temps. I will either/or add more ventilation or some internal partitioning to stop that happening.
Good thing I'm reconsidering a Sony Xperia P or U.
I have heard so many problems about Sony Xperia U not responding to any calls. Aka you call the Xperia U, but as far as the U knows, it has never happened.
rhx123 what GPU did you use for your eGPU btw? I've been working on one too but I have not picked out a permanent GPU to use yet
I don't even care about phone calls anymore, for the last 4 months I haven't had a month with more than 4 minutes of calls :v:
My average call length is 6 seconds.
I have heard so many problems about Sony Xperia U not responding to any calls. Aka you call the Xperia U, but as far as the U knows, it has never happened.
That's why I said P as well as U. It's either those models I might go for.

I want an eGPU now.
rhx123 what GPU did you use for your eGPU btw? I've been working on one too but I have not picked out a permanent GPU to use yet
What adapter are you going to use? PE4L V2.1b is the best in my opinion at the moment. Due to the weird NVIDIA Compression on the 1x link, there isn't much advantage with using a 2x link even at PCIE 2.0 [editline]8th March 2013[/editline]
I want an eGPU now.
It's rather awesome.
It's rather awesome.
Sadly I don't think it's possible with an Asus G53SW.
And yes 650Ti as Vista said, it seemed the perfect performance vs size vs power usage vs portability. And it's powered by a 203W Xbox psu, the connector for which you can see coming out the back. [editline]8th March 2013[/editline]
Sadly I don't think it's possible with an Asus G53SW.
It may indeed be if you have a spare Mini PCIE slot inside, however if it has a dedicated GPU already you run into PCIE address space issues. [editline]8th March 2013[/editline] Look here for more info: http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/2109-diy-egpu-experiences-[version-2-0].html Some of it is a bit out of date, but the same principles still stand.
Yeah it has a dedicated GTX 460m which is roughly equaly to a desktop GTS 450.
Yeah it has a dedicated GTX 460m which is roughly equaly to a desktop GTS 450.
You would still be able to do an eGPU using a bit of software that loads before Windows to disable the 460m.
