You don't even need to download software to change the button locations, can be done easily though the GConf editor: http://blog.daviey.com/blogroll/anything-but-the-buttons.html

Features like that have been around since the early 1990's.
...which is stupid. I tried it out for a while and I kept flying on the right.
The buttons are left because that's where they always should've been. All the menus are on the left, so it makes sense to keep the buttons close to where your mouse should be idling. Couple that with the fact that they want to do some changes to the notification system (on the right), it's easy to understand why they'd move them. But it's safe to assume that most users are going to switch them back, either way. I'm not a big fan myself.
But my mouse idles to the right.
Is Synaptic still available ? Obviously you can still use APT since it's Debian based, right ?
From my experience with the alpha release, apt is still in there, but synaptic isn't. Though you should keep in mind that I tried it out back in December when the OS had no features at all.
I love it! I can't wait for the Windows Installer to come out so I can dual boot it =) Is there a chance that there is Microsoft Office for Ubuntu? I know about OpenOffice, but still. also, I'm not talking about Wine installer.
This was on the Ubuntu website: :barf:
the positioning of the buttons at the top of the window is retarded i mean if you're gonna stick them on the left instead of the right like everyone has been doing for years (macs don't count) just to be different at least make the close window button closest to the corner so you can still press it without needing to focus on where to click very much [editline]04:25AM[/editline] also "but you can customise it anyway" is a bad excuse for the theme being shit
God i can't wait for it to be released. I dunno why, but I've had nothing but problems with 9.10 since it was released, 9.04 was way better. heres hoping this ones decent.
When's the full release?
When's the full release?
April. Hense 10.04.
April. Hense 10.04.
And they usually release at the end of the month. My guess is the last Thursday of April.

I'm running a decent dark theme I grabbed on my Ubuntu drive and it serves me well. The button placement is bullshit though, definitely gonna fix that if I upgrade to 10.4.
And they usually release at the end of the month. My guess is the last Thursday of April.
Yeah, it's scheduled for April 29
April. Hense 10.04.
awmg. I get it now. Can't un see.
Yeah, I've noticed Karmic likes to crap itself out after a few updates. It completely broke my xserver to where it only booted in low graphics mode, and reinstalling nvidia drivers solved nothing. I tried from both the terminal and Hardware Drivers app. Ended up reinstalling Karmic and so far so good... :geno: It really bothers me that Canonical releases Ubuntu with ancient software, outdated repos, and at least two kernel releases behind the latest stable kernel. Annoying as fuck. :argh:
And they usually release at the end of the month. My guess is the last Thursday of April.
It's scheduled for April 11th. Let's hope they deliver.
also "but you can customise it anyway" is a bad excuse for the theme being shit
I don't know too many folks who like default Ubuntu themes much anyway.
It's scheduled for April 11th. Let's hope they deliver.
Really? Where did you hear that?
I heard April 29th, which seems more plausible.
I'm fairly new to linux so I stupid installed 10.04 over 9.10 and found a lot of things stopped working and what not, like the notification area got all fucked up, so I had to reinstall 9.10 again, but I didn't have my home dir on a seperate partition so I had to go to through configuring most of my apps again, it's safe to say I'll wait for lucid to released, and then wait some more just in case!
It really bothers me that Canonical releases Ubuntu with ancient software, outdated repos, and at least two kernel releases behind the latest stable kernel. Annoying as fuck. :argh:
Ubuntu is usually up to date at the time of the release. For instance, 9.10 came with Linux 2.6.31, the latest stable kernel available at the time. Same for FF 3.5, the latest version out. The repos are "out of date" because they don't want to end up with a shitfest like Fedora where everything breaks because it's updated constantly. Debian takes this even more literally, since the distribution is used (mostly) for servers and is updated every 1.5-2 years. There are repos for the latest Firefox, though.
Hey guys. Alt of linux. I gotta say that this ubuntu does not reconize my drivers. I hate it.
Honestly, I don't care if the repos are outdated. I can always just compile shit if I need to.
April. Hense 10.04.
haha I never saw that, I always thought it was just some version number. Clever :v:
April 1st, 2010?
The usually don't release on the first of the month.
Sexy. I want that theme for my Xubuntu.
I like the changes, I might switch myself. Wish Steam was native to it though, would make Linux so much better.
Looks nice
