I like the changes, I might switch myself. Wish Steam was native to it though, would make Linux so much better.
The day is coming friend. Instead of switching try dual booting.
The day is coming friend. Instead of switching try dual booting.
Tried Wubi yesterday, didn't work.
Tried Wubi yesterday, didn't work.
Wubi is shit. Install Ubuntu the real way, as dual boot instead. You can see how here.
I'm really trying to keep myself from using Ubuntu due to GNOME's C# programs and Ubuntu's increasing stock of C# programs. Let me be clear about this, I'm not against the programs or C#. This explains my concern.. Aprt from that, Ubuntu 10.04 looks good and is the step the GNU/Linux community needs. Ubuntu is by far the most user friendly distro.
I honestly think that C# should be a cross-platform language without Microsoft patenting anything, from what I read in that article. On the topic of the Lucid beta, I think it looks nice but I'm not a big fan of the purple and not a big fan of the way the buttons are placed. I don't like them on the left.
Looks pretty awesome, I will have to download it again because the one I dl'd for some reason didn't work (lol WUBI).

I might have a go at this beta, seeing as Fedora didn't work (fucking monitor and GRUB issues :bang:) and I downloaded the wrong architecture of 9.10 :frown:
I downloaded the wrong architecture of 9.10 :frown:
how did you even manage to do that?
You don't use ubuntu because some zealot doesn't like C#?
That 'zealot' is the guy responsible for GNU, and no, I don't use it because applications made with C# are on it.
That 'zealot' is the guy responsible for GNU, and no, I don't use it because applications made with C# are on it.
And C# isn't unixy enough. Real men write their programs in C. And sometimes Python or Bash.
That 'zealot' is the guy responsible for GNU, and no, I don't use it because applications made with C# are on it.
I know who rms is. He's quite possibly the biggest zealot I've ever met. he also smells like the inside of my shoes [editline]10:59PM[/editline] also lisp is the most unixy language out there other than C
how did you even manage to do that?
Just found out I didn't, but my disk is a bit fucked up it turns out, tried re-installing it today. Sometimes it will finish installing, other times it will give up at about 30%, I just need a new disk is all :v:
Testing it out in VirtualBox and it's pretty nice, this may warrant a proper install. I've never set up a dual boot system before but hey, there's a first time for everything. That and I think I have a spare HDD lying around somewhere so as to avoid partitioning anything.

Keeps things a bit nicer, and Linux runs faster because it's running from the center of the harddrive, not from the end of it. It's also nice to throw in a shitty 10GB IDE HDD to use as a swap drive.
people actually dualboot? my system is 100% Linux
people actually dualboot? my system is 100% Linux
I only dual-boot until two things get ironed out: 1.) Gimp 2.8 gets released. 2.) iPhone/iPod Touch support in Rythmbox. I'm still sucking on the Windows tit because I need iTunes for my iPod Touch, and Photoshop used Single Window Mode, something GIMP 2.8 has. I'm currently running GIMP 2.7.2, and I have my iPod Touch working in my installation of Linux Mint 8 using iFuse and Rythmbox, but I'm still waiting for GIMP 2.8 to be released before I delete my Windows partition and never look back. :h:
OK, I caved and set up a partition with Ubuntu on it. First time I've used a linux system so wish me luck.

Anyone know how I can get an ATI Radeon HD5850 working in linux? I tried the drivers on ATI's website and they didn't work.

Currently posting from a VM. My darned wireless stick doesn't work with linux, so this is my only option. So far, I'm loving it, other than the occasional upwards right drift to close a window. If anyone can find a linux driver for the USR5425, I will love you long time.
haha I never saw that, I always thought it was just some version number. Clever :v:
It's been Y.MM since 2004
I personally think the upper-left close button is a great idea. Everything is in one space. Another good thing would to be to toy with your workflow, like focus by mouse over instead of clicking on the window.
I remember the last time I tried installing linux, ndiswrapper wasn't working like it said it would. Now, I have proof. lsusb recognizes the little thing, but I get errors when I install the drivers. When I installed the proprietary Broadcom drivers on my laptop it showed up as eth1. But with the open source b43 drivers (+ closed source firmware) it shows up as wlan0.
This is why I just ditched my Broadcom 4311 for an Atheros-based Gigabyte AirCruiser Mach G I found on Amazon.com Sadly, my laptop has a whitelist of compatible wireless cards in the BIOS, so I had to hack my BIOS file with a hex editor to add the card's hardware ID to the whitelist before the laptop would even get past POST. It was risky, but I wanted to use the card I paid for, and it runs like a dream under Linux and Windows (XP, Vista, and 7 work flawlessly).
I get the same problem.
