Okay, so I've decided it's damn time for me to have a computer that can play even moderate games like Bioshock and Assassin's Creed, not to mention Crysis.

If you have anything to suggest for what I'm missing, that would be great. Also, if you know where I can get something cheaper than what I have put up. The only things that I'm not really flexible on is the processor and the gfx card.
[editline]03:28PM[/editline]
Oh, and it was mentioned to me that if I were to get a GPU, I could set it up so that the gfx card and the integrated would switch depending on what I'm doing. For example, if I was playing a game, it would use the GTS 250 and if I was browsing the web it would use the integrated. Any ideas?
A very extensive research. Wewt.

It's a shame that you're so stuck on a Q9550, because a Phenom 940/955 would be a much better deal.
When are you buying this?
Why are you using Tigerdirect instead of Newegg?
Is that a Logisys power supply I spy?
GTS 250 = eugh. Get a 4870 instead.
Why do you want a smaller hard drive when a bigger one is available?
@ Shadow: Dare I ask what the difference between the GTS 250, the GTS 250 (1GB), and [scratch that, it's the GTX 260].
@ Pris:
I'm going with Intel because everything I've read shows that, although it is more expensive, it is also more dependable.
I should be buying at the end of this year, so I have plenty of time to think.
I'm using tigerdirect because 1) there is a store close to me, and 2) in most cases it's exactly the same price as newegg.
Is it? I don't know anythingg about powersupplies.
Never heard of a 4870.
Because I don't need all that space. All I would have on it is games, and even then, most of them are on my 1 TB external anyway and I'm not buggered to move them. Also, I'd rather have it a bit cheaper than that. :P
1. Uh, no. They're just as dependable.
2. Plenty of time for prices to come down and new stuff to come out.
3. Uh, the prices on Newegg are ALWAYS better.
4. I'm just guessing from the LSP prefix. Logisys is shit.
5. You obviously haven't been doing much research.
6. Yeah, and new games are coming out all the time. New games and mods are getting bigger and bigger.
Make a new thread when you're ready to buy it.
1. I'll need to see some proof.
2. Yep.
3.

4. If you could find me a better one, it would me much appreciated. I really have no clue.
5. I've been doing plenty, and I've asked some people who know a lot more than I do about computers for confirmation. I've just never heard of that from Nvidia.
6. Yeah, but that doesn't nessecarily mean I'm going to buy 1.25 TB worth of them. Still, it doesn't matter that much to me.

1. Kay, just ask any AMD owner.
3. Oh, one example. There are loads of cases when Newegg's cheaper.
4. Kay, but come back when you're ready to buy.
5. No, the 4870's an ATI card.
AMD's are great and hold up, and I don't even own one.
1. Show me proof that says they're less dependable then intel.
2. k

4. corsair

No, some people just don't know much beyond Intel/Nvidia. They have a pretty dominant market position.

Alright...sigh..
1. Fine, I can accept that they are both dependable. You just have to understand that I'm worried because I don't know much about the organs of computers. Now, what is CPU cache and why is it lower on AMDs?
2. I am not making a new thread at the end of the year just because you think I'll just change my opinions anyway. If there is something else that I want to get then, I'll worry about it then. However, there will be some things I am buying in a few weeks (namely the graphics card and/or processor) and I need help now.
3. If you really care that much, I'll use newegg just for you, Pris.
4. I'll look up Corsair.
5. I figured that out. I thought he was talking about nvidia because he failed to mention otherwise. I spoke to a friend who used ATI for a long time and was unsatisfied and eventually got an nvidia which he still uses and likes, so I'm still on the line for this. (He also uses AMD, but he doesn't know much about it.)
6. I don't have a neverending budget, you know.

Stuff like cache differs because architectures are very different.

Buy it all at once. It's cheaper.
3. If you really care that much, I'll use newegg just for you, Pris.
Thanks hun
4. I'll look up Corsair.
Also OCZ, Antec, Enermax, Cooler Master, and a few others.

Yeah, well it really comes down to price/performance. Loads of people, me included, use ATI cards with no issues.
6. I don't have a neverending budget, you know.
Right, but that doesn't mean you should skimp on the hard drive.
But what I'm saying is that, if I were to get the quivalent of what I want in the Intel in a Phenom, then it would have, rather than the 12 MB L2 cache, a L2 of 512 KB and and L3 of 4 MB or so?
And I can't afford to buy it all at once. Besides, how would that be cheaper? Newegg thing?
And what, really, is the big difference between an Nvidia GTS 250 512 MB and an ATI Radeon 4870 512 MB, besides that nvidia is plastered all over everything?
the 4870 performs way better (especially under AA)
the 4870 performs way better (especially under AA)
Dunno what AA is, but from what I've seen (on newegg) it looks like it also runs a lot hotter and has a shitty cooling system.

Not exactly sure what you're saying here.

Ever hear of a bank account? Save your money. Not only will parts come down in price, you'll also save on shipping.

Don't trust the customer reviews on Newegg.
The cooling's fine.
Dunno what AA is, but from what I've seen (on newegg) it looks like it also runs a lot hotter and has a shitty cooling system.
CCC has a fan adjuster
It runs warmer? my 4850 idles at 43c sure it is no 30c but so it is fine operating temps, the 4870's can go up to 115c. newegg reviews are dumb
Just put an M80 in your computer and you'll be fine.
Dunno what AA is, but from what I've seen (on newegg) it looks like it also runs a lot hotter and has a shitty cooling system.
AA is Anti Aliasing, and essentially gets rid of blocky edges:

The one on the left has no AA, the one on the right does.
And 4870's typically run fairly cool. Just stay away from the HIS ones with the "orb" heatsinks, mine runs very loud.

Um...
43 C = 109 F
115 C = 239 F
I'd rather not have my video card burn a hole through my case.
they can handle upto 115 without breaking
on stock 3% they never go above 80
