Not exactly sure what you're saying here. How can you not afford to buy it all at once? Ever hear of a bank account? Save your money. Not only will parts come down in price, you'll also save on shipping. 4870 performs better. [editline]04:34PM[/editline] Don't trust the customer reviews on Newegg. The cooling's fine.
I mean that the Intel has an L1 cache of 512 KB and an L2 of 12 MB. The AMD has L1 and L2 caches of 512 KB and an L3 of about 4 MB. I can't afford to spend almost $1000 all at once right now. Deal with it. I'll think hard about the AMD vs. Intel and Nvidia vs. ATI, but now what about the things I left out on the list? The motherboard, mainly.
save your money
they can handle upto 115 without breaking on stock 3% they never go above 80
That's still close to an oven you have running in your computer and completely fails to reassure me.
That's still close to an oven you have running in your computer and completely fails to reassure me.
Graphics cards can easily handle those temperatures. For example, mine is running at 45C (113F) without a hitch. They can easily get up to 70C or higher
I would go for the 4870, it would smoke that GTS250 (plus it has a better price/performance ratio). It's fairly cheap too with a price point of $125-$140. If you can't quite afford that, a 4850 will still give you high performance at a little over $100 (I have one and I can run Crysis (30-45FPS) on high with a 22" LCD, and I can run ANY Source game maxed out). Just make sure you get a dual-slot card so it won't overheat. I built a powerful rig that can run almost everything perfectly for a little under $1,000 late last year, here's the specs: (prices shown are from when I bought the parts so they will be cheaper now)
Internal MemCard Reader - $13.99 OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ600MXSP 600W Power Supply Unit - $94.99 LG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner $23.99 HIS HD4850 IceQ4 512MB Turbo GPU - $191.99 ASUS P5E3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP Board w/ integrated WI-FI chip - $269.99 Antec 900 Case- $109.99 Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 CPU - $164.99 OCZ Reaper HPC 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) RAM - $80.99 No HDD, Keyboard, Speakers, or Mouse because I reused the ones off of my old rig. TOTAL: $979.77 when purchased in late 2008
If you can't afford it now then save up and wait because shipping charges will rape you if you bought the parts online when you could afford them and not all at once. And maybe the i7's will be cheap when you have the funds later on. :20bux::10bux::20bux:

And, could you specify which part is which on that list? I assume the ASUS is the motherboard, and I can tell a few other things, but it would be helpful. :P
Alright, well, what about the difference between the 1 GB and the 512 MB versions?
The 1GB size is if your using the card to power a 30"+ LCD monitor. Okay...what about this for a processor then? Since y'all are so AMD obsessed. -.-

And the 955 has an unlocked multiplier which makes OCing easier. (Black Edition CPUs are AMD's (MUCH cheaper) version of Intel's Extreme Edition CPUs)
Oh, and I've found the Processor as well as a corsair 750 w powersupply cheaper at tigerdirect. :P
The 1GB is better at higher resolutions.
It's also useful if you're running high AA
I haven't found a motherboard yet, so I will have to find one that supports it. :P Not sure about te prices of them nor manufacturers. [editline]05:21PM[/editline] Powersupply here, btw.

What's the resolution?
1440 x 900 most likely. Fix'd.
1440x900, you mean?
Yep. Also... This?
Please come back when you havemthe money.
I've already gone over this. Reconstructing list...
You really should wait until you have the money and are ready to buy. By the end of the year new things will be out and prices are going to be completely different.
I don't believe that in four months or so everything will have changed so much that I can't figure it out. Look, you already see that I've changed my opinions about a lot of the stuff that I was sure about. I need help with this.
I'd suggest an ASUS that can handle DDRII AND DDRIII, I've got a really old one in right now that supports DDR one (SDRAM) and DDRII (even though that part is borked... D:) but it is fucking amazing for how old it is.
How is this for the motherboard?

Sigh.. Fine, I'm buying it next week, how's that for you? Can we continue?
Sigh.. Fine, I'm buying it next week, how's that for you? Can we continue?
Really? Or are you just saying that? [editline]06:35PM[/editline] I, for one, don't want to put 20 minutes into making a build only to find out you're not buying it until December.
