Hint: You can't.
On my Zenbook Prime UX31A, the option to disable Stylus/Touchscreen is missing from where it should be.
My only way is to find out which HID device it is, and disable it in the Device manager.
to anyone who bought windows 8 for 15 bucks back whenever, can you tell me what the email was called? i can't seem to find it
From Microsoft Customer Support
Thanks for ordering Windows 8 (order #XXXXXXXXXX)
There you go.

Yeah that's sort of what I meant. Not exactly a great solution, but that's how I disabled capacitive touch on my Fujitsu when I only wanted pen support.
I know I've been a strong advocate at the gimped-ness of Windows RT, but...
http://www.zdnet.com/microsoft-launches-surface-rt-discount-for-schools-7000016919/
Surface RT is being sold to universities at $199 a pop for the base model, so you'll be able to pick them up cheap - if sources are correct - maybe as early as the 24th.
I'm busting ass for a $1200 laptop, but I honestly wouldn't mind a surface RT with type cover solely for note taking and minor school things. That's a really good deal. Metro apps still need work though.
I dunno, RT is still really gimped but Metro is here to stay so it's not going to get worse.
It's got a shit ton of potential. And I still go by my word that Windows 8 tablets are far superior over iOs and Android tablets.
Pro tablets are essentially your desktop experience. You can't get apps like Photoshop, GIMP, Maya, Sibelius, Protools, or any of that stuff on an iPad or Android tablet. At least, not in a version that is as good as the desktop version.
RT has a long way to go, but Microsoft really needs to invest more time in Pro tablets. A cheap pro tab could blow all competition out of the water, if done correctly.
RT is for the cheap, social/education shit. I'd get one solely for facebook, watching movies, and using Office programs for school
Pro would be for everything above, but I'd be using programs relevant to me (Sibelius and ProTools). I simply cannot get that with any other tablet on the market.
They're certainly better in a productivity sense but iOS and Android are much better content aggregates.
Microsoft should just officially drop the whole "no desktop apps on ARM" shtick and just set it as a toggle protected by UAC. Only idiots and enthusiasts would turn it off, and if I could get Chrome on an RT tab, it would be a fucking amazing device.
Honestly, they should have pulled a Nexus 7 subsidized the RT like crazy.
If they had it available for super cheap, it would've been so much easier to sell (honestly, whose going to spend, what was it, $500? on an unproven platform and system), and they could have built a stronger userbase, attracting app developments.
I'm willing to try a non-shitty RT tablet again for literally half of what I paid for the Vivo Tab. I sold the Vivo Tab because it was simply just not worth twice of what I paid for my laptop.
They need to make RT cheap to give people the opportunity to try it out.
This is going to seem like an odd request, but I'm a sucker for gimmicky UI effets; I was wondering if there is anyway to make the windows slightly resize when you scroll to the top or bottom of a window like it does when your using Windows 8 on a touch device.
I'm pretty sick of crappy start menu replacements. Any recommendations of good start menu replacements, or methods to get used to the new start screen?

I would personally suggest using the native start screen. Remember that you can manage groups of icons by zooming out (ctrl+scroll), and then dragging groups to rearrange them or right-clicking them to get a "name group" option. Also, you can get other features that the old start menu had (like control panel and run) by right-clicking the lower-left corner of the screen (or pressing Win+X).
Start menu improvements coming in 8.1 should make it tolerable.
A little protip for Windows search: You can search for multiple partial words. For example, I want to search for Programs and Features. I would press Windows+W (To search for settings) and type "p a fe" instead of the full "Programs and Features".

Cool feature, but bad example. You can get to Programs and Features faster with Windows+X then F.
I need some help asap:
I already got a windows 8 product key for my laptop, but how can I install windows 8 with it? Upgrade assistance wants me to buy the product first.

nvm, found what I was looking for. c:
First post from my new Samsung :D
I have to say, I use the touch screen a hell of a lot. People seem to think that touch screens are useless but it's really comfortable to scroll through the browser. I have barely used the touchpad yet.
I thought windows 8 looked really bad when I first saw it and I thought I would downgrade to windows 7 after I bought my laptop. As soon as I started using it I loved it! Its so fast and fluid!
:(

What is wrong with classic shell?
Some reason for me Classic Shell will freeze when I click the start button sometimes. I have to restart Windows Explorer in the task manager.

Yea, I had to drop Classic Shell because it simply got unstable for no reason. Moved over to Start8 and I am fine.
For those of you running Creative sound cards and drivers under Windows 8 you will find that you have no audio. To this fix:
1) In the Creative Control Panel choose your preferred audio settings
2) Put your computer in Sleep mode
3) Wake it up from Sleep mode
4) Shutdown your computer
5) Turn it back on again
You will now find that your audio is functioning correctly.

Isn't Blue/8.1 meant to have been released today?
Isn't Blue/8.1 meant to have been released today?
No. The preview is being released tomorrow.
No. The preview is being released tomorrow.
Ok thanks!
Oh and if you install the preview version, you'll lose your installed apps when you install the final version.
