that's why you research before you do something so you don't do something dumb and regret it

ISO's on MSDN so I dunno why they're holding it back
Actually it did move some program files into .old but most of them still work.

MSDN gets everything first
Can someone link me to the msdn download? I have an account but I keep getting back to the regular page.
Okay so from what I can ascertain 8.1 Preview updates are not working if your system installation language (that is, the language you picked when you deployed windows, not what you can freely set in Locale) is not one of the following: Arabic, English (US) / EN-US, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Swedish, or Turkish.
This means that if you're trying to install on EN-GB, you'll just keep running into errors even using the DISM deploy method because some dimwit at Redmond decided to not define it as they seem to keep fucking up for the past few software releases
It's probably best to wait until tomorrow for an official statement unless you were planning on flat-reinstalling your OS, but that seems a little bit overkill
Been using 8.1 for an hour or so, and really with the changes to the start screen I really feel no need for a start menu replacement anymore. The searching works exactly like how 7 did in the start menu. The introduction of small icons sizes is nice. Shutdown/Restart are still annoyingly located though. Only issue I can think of.

Can you disable the start menu button? Please tell me you can.

Right click start button, go to shutdown
not the best but atleast you dont have to go through charms (which you can disable now)

Ok it looks like the lower hot corners cant be disabled but i dont go down there much
It's going to take some getting use to on the Start screen to press the arrow to view all apps.
As cool as Powershell is, it kinda bugs me that they got rid of "Command Prompt (Admin)" on the power menu.

right click in the task bar, Properties, Navigation tab. There you have the option to show CMD instead of PowerShell
The fuck :v:
I installed the 8.1 preview but...apparently didn't? My build number hasn't changed, and none of the new 8.1 features are present. Yet the little updater says the update is already installed. The fuck?
[editline]26th June 2013[/editline]
It supposedly needs to be installed through the store but I didn't get any notification or anything...
It seems some people didn't obtain the store notification until they uninstall the AV / Firewall.
I didn't have a problem and after installing the 15Mb update and restart the PC the notification was there in the Start Screen.

Same here. I haven't found a way to uninstall it either.

I don't have any antivirus installed, except Windows Defender. Do I need to disable that?
Tried uninstalling the update package and reinstalling - no go. Still no notification. I read something saying I should refresh my Windows 8 install - I just installed this yesterday!
I had WindowsDefender disabled but UAC at default and Windows Update at default options.
But it seems lot of people is having the same problem and only solution is waiting for the ISO.

How did you uninstall the package?

Went to installed updates > Searched for KB2849636 > Uninstalled it

Thanks, I was looking in update history and I couldn't find it. Now let me try again...
[editline]27th June 2013[/editline]
Nothing. I guess I'll try the ISO now.
Anyone having problems with Nvidia drivers at all?
I mean, it was a given and they still work; but it blows to not use my SLI.

The installer you get from the website forcefully updates the store.
The updated store gives you access to the 8.1 download (which is just a iso really) and it automates the install. If you never went into the store metro app, clicked the 8.1 preview tile (which is fucking huge) and clicked install, you have not moved to 8.1

Yeah, it didn't do shit. There was no 8.1 preview tile.
I ended up just grabbing the ISO from elsewhere and doing an upgrade through that.
So, I've got a notebook with this thing recently and... I managed to install Aurora, Steam and Speedfan. After that though, any program I wanted to install (Dropbox, Chrome, Firefox because Aurora was a bit buggy) does not install. I don't get the prompt to let this program use admin rights, and most importantly the installer process is in the taskbar under "Backgrounds processes". Wat do.
[editline]27th June 2013[/editline]
Overall I'm liking this new OS, but the problem of stuff not installing and explorer sometimes freezing on the folder with the installer .exe in is pretty dissatisfying.
Ok, I thought it was a matter of compatibility, but I'm trying to install SkyDrive desktop app and it still doesn't work, so it's probably some other kind of problem. Has anyone experienced that? [editline]27th June 2013[/editline] OK NEVERMIND I AM RETARDED I just had to launch the Explorer with admin rights. Oh well. [editline]27th June 2013[/editline] Yea, everything I wanted got installed (well, except Skydrive, but whatever, I've finally installed dropbox so it doesn't really matter)

Mine are crashing every so often, but then it continues working after a few seconds. Not on SLI though, just a single 560ti with driver ver. 325.71

Have you tried using the preview drivers? If Windows Update doesn't find them, you can find the driver for your card here (You have to open in IE and disable the new protected mode), and install through device manager.

That is the current driver -.-. Apparently Nvidia advertises them, but they are nowhere to be found on Windows Update.
