Windows 8 - "8" because cats were taken and dog races don't sound as intimidating
It now works like it did in 7's start menu in that it shows by default results for everything in one view rather than having to switch from Files, Settings, and Apps.

See THAT looks useable.
The search thing was my only problem.
Its nice that you can sort it between files, apps and settings, but by default it should show everything, so you just type in what you want and find it without having to click the right category first.
One thing about the search that is a downside is that you can no longer use tab to autocomplete typing a path and it no longer shows you the files or folders in a folder when typing a path. I'm hoping this will be restored by the time 8.1 gets fully released. This actually worked in 8, not entirely sure why it's no longer the case.
I don't understand why they had it the way they did before. Did they not use it and realize "oh shit, this is clunky and awkward as hell having to key over to other search categories before anything pops up"?
can someone help me with a problem that I have on my windows 8 laptop. It's an asus vivobook and when I got it everything worked fine but after a couple of windows updates the default metro apps became really fucked up, for example the text on all the apps is now really blurry and the colours are way off making the background of the market black instead of white. take a look at my calender app which also has this problem:

I had the exact same issue, but I can't for the love of god remember what I did to fix it :(
I know it's already been mentioned, but something that pisses me off a LOT is resolution restriction. They made a great improvement on low end machines like netbooks, but metro apps can't run on netbook resolution. Shit's crazy.

That looks like MLAA. Look through any graphics settings you have to disable it or something related.
If you have an AMD gpu then it can be found here: http://sites.amd.com/PublishingImages/Public/Graphic_BrandElements/MLAA/mlaa_516W.jpg

oh hey it worked, it was the FXAA settings for my Nvidia GPU. Thanks, that was getting really annoying.

Congratulations, that's going away in 8.1.
Windows 8.1 is starting to fuck things up :(
I can't search from the start menu anymore because my user freeze. I can still move the mouse, enter ctrl+alt+del and listen to already playing music, but everything else have frozen.
Before that, when I was able to search, the search was awfully slow. I searched for stuff and it took like 3 seconds before it appeared!

I can also add that "This PC" Sometimes takes ages to load.

Is it known when it will be released?
Does anybody know if any theme patchers work for windows 8.1?
Does anybody know if any theme patchers work for windows 8.1?
Currently the only one is DWMLoader, but you have to deal with 2 pop ups on log on or when explorer restarts, and there's a strong possibility that it could break your system.

UxStyle should be updated soon.
Also Windows 8 themes aren't 100% compatible with 8.1, though they do work.
Wait, it's released already? I feel like a chunk of my life skipped.

The preview version is, the actual RTM release is estimated to be around the end of august/september iirc

That's severely artifacted.
Best I could find was this as they all seem to have jpeg artifacts: http://www.babooforum.com.br/forum/uploads/gallery/album_523/gallery_2_523_633570-1920x1200.jpg
I've been looking into this for the last hour. Is there a fix for the broken lock screen backgrounds bug in Windows 8.1?

Or a workaround?
If 8.1 is basically SP1 for win8, Is it worth grabbing early?
If 8.1 is basically SP1 for win8, Is it worth grabbing early?
It could be regarded as a service pack, but AFAIK Microsoft ditched the service pack concept and just keeps pushing out new versions in a faster cycle. (AFAIK a yearly cycle)
I don't recommend installing the preview version on any important machine you need for day-to-day use.
Seriously don't do it.
Wait until the stable version is released.
Unless you want to install it on a virtual machine, or a computer that you don't need to rely on, then go ahead and test it.
How do you Windows 8 fellas get Steam working on Windows 8? (I would love a step by step guide please)
1.Download Steam
2.Install Steam
3.Use Steam
Does step 3 include logging on your Steam account?
I get an error, it's not as simple as it seems.

What's your error?
Is that Halo Assault game worth buying in the Windows Store?
