dude fix those office icons, they're too big
I said I'd get to it weeks ago, eh might as well now. [editline]huh[/editline] [t]http://puu.sh/2a4Jp[/t] Better?
I just got a new PC with W8. How do I give names to sections and shit like that? And how do I change the background of the start menu?
For the names zoom out the start menu and right click the section. The background aside from the stock ones, need an third party program. I use Windows 8 Start Screen Customizer.

Crtl + Minus, or Ctrl + Mouse Scroll wheel down, or pinch zoom if you have a touch screen. [editline]gg[/editline] And I used an app called Steam Tile on the Windows 8 Store.
How do you get steam games onto the start menu?
[t]http://d.ezhik.me/public/screenshots/i just accidentally the entire metro experience.png[/t] tell me what's wrong with this screenshot :v
how do you do that?
Is there no way to use this without setting up a profile ID? I don't have a /id/<profile-name> set up and I don't want to set one up..
no, because that is how the program knows what games you own
Is there no way to use this without setting up a profile ID? I don't have a /id/<profile-name> set up and I don't want to set one up..
Uh, just use your Steam ID??? You don't need to set up shit.
no, because that is how the program knows what games you own
It could easily use the default profile link instead.
Uh, just use your Steam ID??? You don't need to set up shit.
It asks for my profile link in /id/ format.
It could easily use the default profile link instead. It asks for my profile link in /id/ format.
Then give it...?
Have any of you who develop apps/programs/games switched from 7 to 8 yet? I kind of need to retain access to things like Cygwin and by extension MinGW, Visual Studio and all of my other development tools to make this switch. Any testimonials on how well these things transfer over?
Can someone give me links for editing Start screen, please? I mean the tool(s) which let you change colors, add custom wallpaper as background, stuff like that.

I tried that one and the picture overlays the side of the monitor like so.
Well, I am now Windows 8-ified. So far, so good. Everything seems to have transferred over without any problems, including 90% of my programs. Feels good, man.
Same goes for me. Does anyone know any app-based games they would recommend? My personal recommendation is Flow (I also have it on my android phone).
It was pretty dumb of me to expect the released Windows 8 to be very similar to the Beta. Decided to upgrade from Windows 7 today, and wow. Metro works great with a mouse now.

Even after just an hour or two of using it, I can already do a lot of things by muscle memory. It's nice.
im pretty tired of UAC not allowing me to change a text document inside program files and instead making me save the file to the desktop then move it, it's fucking dumb and even though i have UAC set to the lowest setting, it still does it is there anyway to make it stop?

If you want to disable UAC(And keep Metro apps from running), open regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System , look for the "EnableLUA" value, set it to 0 and reboot.
don't disable uac

Plus the charms menu has meant that, in metro apps, I can use the same shortcuts for all of them for stuff like settings and search. I'm mashing start-I all the time now for settings.
Why would I want to add a custom ID that I can never remove?
you can change it and why does it really matter all that much
