So is this Windows 8.1 akin to a traditional service pack, or is it something different?
It's more than a service pack. It's more like OS X updates (10.6 -> 10.7 -> 10.8). Things have been redesigned. The Windows Store is redesigned, the PC Settings app has more options, the power menu (Win+X) has more options, there's new bundled apps, there are changes to the start screen, etc. Read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_8#Windows_8.1
I can't seem to find a way to upgrade from 8 to the 8.1 RTM. When I get to the choose what to keep screen, it only shows nothing. Anyone have any ideas?
For me it gave me two options. Keep nothing or only personal files. However I was going from preview to RTM.

I don't know if this is a bug or not. But when I activate the power menu (Win+X) it appears on the bottom left of my leftmost monitor. I thought it was supposed to appear on the primary monitor (the one that I have in the middle of my 3 monitors)?
For me it gave me two options. Keep nothing or only personal files. However I was going from preview to RTM.
So I guess you can't upgrade if you have your users folder located on another HDD than the windows installation. That's really annoying.

Upgraded to Windows 8.1 Enterprise instead of not Enterprise. I really shouldn't do these things the minute I get out of bed. Time to reinstall completely, I guess.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/QdRDa4i.jpg[/t] it's happening! [editline]30th August 2013[/editline] erm, those sites in the background are there because i wanted to back up the windows 8 key from my surface pro
So where do we get 8.1, or is that the preview?
Who took that photo?
Me?
Is the leftmost monitor's ID 1 in the control panel?
Do you mean in "Display resolution"? Then no.
So where do we get 8.1, or is that the preview?
Google has the torrents.
Do you mean in "Display resolution"? Then no.
It should appear on the monitor where the active window is, so if you have a program focused on the left monitor and hit Win+X it open on that same monitor. Not sure why it's only on one for you.
im confused, is 8.1 actually released? if so where do i get it for free, since i already have 8?
im confused, is 8.1 actually released? if so where do i get it for free, since i already have 8?
It leaked, it won't be available for consumers for another month and a half. Not even on MSDN/TechNet.
im confused, is 8.1 actually released? if so where do i get it for free, since i already have 8?
If you want a legit source I can host the ISO for you. Other ways are finding it with google, torrent sites etc.
If you want a legit source I can host the ISO for you. Other ways are finding it with google, torrent sites etc.
RTM is now in warez territory
RTM is now in warez territory
What do you mean? That's its considered warez or that it's on warez sites? If it's considered warez then I will not host.
What do you mean? That's its considered warez or that it's on warez sites? If it's considered warez then I will not host.
The pre-releases and such are fine but when it starts requiring a key you have to pay for, you cant link out to it. It was the same for 8. You can talk about it and all that jazz but going about linking it and how to get around it is going to get yourself banned.

They are even offered by Microsoft. And if it requires a key then how is that warez? Linking to an installation that requires a key is not warez.

The leaked ISO still requires you have a Windows 8 key to activate it, it's not preactivated or anything.
I can't seem to keep my installed programs when I try to upgrade, just personal files or nothing. Could this be because I run a dutch version of Windows 8?
You have to install with a temporary key to get through the install process (on a fresh install), after it's installed you can change it to your legit Windows 8 key and it's absolutely fine. The only thing that could be associated with Warez is that you have to download a leaked ISO, that's about it though.
You have to install with a temporary key to get through the install process (on a fresh install), after it's installed you can change it to your legit Windows 8 key and it's absolutely fine.
I did do this on another laptop of mine, but I don't really want to bother reinstalling everything after I just finished reinstalling everything on my desktop.

So is it possible to install one of the 8.1 RTM leaks and keep my installed programs, or will that option only be available in October?
So is it possible to install one of the 8.1 RTM leaks and keep my installed programs, or will that option only be available in October?
I heared some people already have that option.
