Is it possible to make this show date as well while keeping the small taskbar?
Only way to do that is to have a larger taskbar, like so
To be technical if you had a 3rd party program to change the margins of the taskbar, or a custom theme that did so, it'll show the date. Example using WinSpy.
Example using WinSpy.
That's exactly what I'm looking for, but are you sure WinSpy does that? I've tried googling it and apparently it's some kind of monitoring program.

I just edited the window size as a demonstration. I made this small application to do so manually just drop into %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup for your account only or %programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp for all accounts on the computer. [editline]8th September 2013[/editline] And there already seems to be an issue: for some reason the date keeps disappearing. The application is also nonexistent in the process list, so I guess it simply crashes.
It closes itself after it adjusts the window. Maybe it would have been a good idea if it had been running constantly?
Is there any themes I can get for windows 8 to have aero like windows 7 did? I'm loving windows 8 so far but I'm missing aero.
I think I observed the disappearance in two situations: when I launched Opera and shut down Europa Universalis III. Maybe it would have been a good idea if it had been running constantly?
If I had it running constantly then I would have to hook into explorer and monitor that window's message, intercept it and then call SetWindowPos again. Though I don't really know how to hook into explorer as I'm still fairly new to programming. The other alternative would be a custom theme in which the margin for the clock is altered so that it'd always show, however that requires a uxtheme patch and all that. This is something I know how to do but it's up to you if you want to have to use a custom theme in order to achieve this effect.
I am not really keen on using a custom theme. Also I have just observed that it disappeared after closing Task Manager. If you ask me, this is quite weird that it (theoretically) happens while doing unrelated things.
My laptop is slow as shit, and I see this in the task manager: [t]http://i.imgur.com/tuBjaCR.png[/t] I know HDD doesn't have high processing speeds, but a capacity of 1 MB/s is bullshit. What the fuck is going on here?

Everything hangs for me for minutes on end when I boot my Windows 8. Think of shit like pressing the desktop icon, everything freezing, looking at the wallpaper a minute later and having the desktop icons loaded a minute after that. Start a program (like Chrome or anything really), takes literally minutes to complete. And it's not done with being slow when I've started chrome. I click the omnibar on top to enter a website name, I start typing, and I see the text appear a few seconds later. Shit gets decent speeds after about 10 minutes, which is ridiculous.

Panda X, I think I've just discovered what exactly causes the date disappearance. To be exact, clicking these icons: Interestingly enough, clicking these is safe:
I fucking love the HD2 - it just refuses to die

Anyone got a link to the RTM ISO? Kinda want to upgrade my laptop
Anyone got a link to the RTM ISO? Kinda want to upgrade my laptop
According to Microsoft the GA and RTM are going to be different as there's still changes needed to be done, in my opinion it would probably be best to wait. While waiting laugh at Microsoft for forgetting what a release candidate is.

Has anyone here downgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 7 without losing anything?
Has anyone here downgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 7 without losing anything?
Since there's no way to actually downgrade without a reinstall, you'll need to back up everything.
Well shit, I can't use VS2013 RC without upgrading from preview. If the release is really going to be different at least it will be another excuse for a fresh install.
Every time i go to shut down my computer it gets hanged up by Steam or something else. It says 'this app is prevent shutdown' How do i stop this? I use to be able to hit shutdown then walk away
Does anyone know of a good way to type special characters on Windows 8? On my Mac I can hold down alt/option and press a key (like option-s for ß) and it's fast, simple and convenient. I don't want to change my keyboard layout. What are the best options here?
Alt codes, there is a list of them here http://www.alt-codes.net/
That is a pretty awful solution. OSX allows typing of special characters in a natural way that doesn't break the flow of typing (no more than using shift for capitals) that corresponds logically to the characters (eg s to ß). Memorizing and typing arbitrary keystrokes isn't a useful way of doing it - plus, 5 keystrokes as opposed to 2 is just heavy-handed in comparison. Further searching has revealed that Windows doesn't have such a method built-in without switching to QWERTZ or whatever - does anyone know of some good third-party software to achieve a similar result?
Assuming you're using United States English, if you switch to United States English - International you can use right alt to make alternative characters like ©, ß, ®, etc. and it's still QWERTY. Edited: I don't know what the equivalent is if it is different from United States English but any English International should allow you to do exactly what you're asking Edited: [thumb]http://puu.sh/4tCoF.png[/thumb]
With any keyboard layout that has special characters you can press ctrl+alt or altgr to type them. I assume ß is ctrl+alt+s or altgr+s.
Reposting for a new page. Every time i go to shut down my computer it gets hanged up by Steam or something else. It says 'this app is prevent shutdown' How do i stop this? I use to be able to hit shutdown then walk away
