you can change it and why does it really matter all that much
sure you can change it, but you can't remove it.
Why would I want to add a custom ID that I can never remove?
Because it's not a big deal.
Holy shit, did you even try 76561197970920157?

Bro, you're nit creating anything. You're literally just telling the app what account you are so it knows what games to list. It only stores one at a time.
I personally prefer Pin Steam. It costs money (next to nothing) but it lets you pin your friends and lets you have loads of customization with each tile.
Also, chill out we're only trying to help.

While I'm here, has anyone else had trouble getting Mirror's Edge to work in 8?
Is there a fix?

Is it just not launching or is there any indication of what might be going on?

works fine for me, but here's one piece of advice: before you play it, go to task manager, click options, then check "always on top", cause if ME crashes, it remains a black window that likes to stay on top of everything
Is there any way to get Windows Update to show a notification on the desktop without using 3rd party programs?

It works as far as the menu but as soon as I go ingame, I'm greeted by a friendly black screen.
I even get the little cut scene at the start of the tutorial. Could have been a problem with my graphics drivers and they updated the other day. I'll give running it another go.

Ah sweet it is working now.
Weird.
Stardock, have my babies.

Now all I want is full screen metro on both screens and charms on the desktop and I'll be happy as can be!
So just installed W8 yesterday, and so far I like it.
The standard metro apps are really retarded though.
-The market has no search function, and neither does travels or images.
-I cant set the correct location in both weather and maps apps.
-I cant add more than one e-mail adress to people, email and message apps.
-I cant add my google agenda to the agenda app.
Once you get rid of all that crap, its really nice though.

If you mean the store app, just press start, start typing, and then click the store app icon. I have no idea why it isn't in the actual app.

They all have search functions. Press Start-Q in any app and you get a search box. (Alternatively you could go to the top right of the screen then to the center or press start-C to bring up a menu called the charms menu and click on search but that's awkward to do - that's also how you access settings and share) This is great to try out on the music app. Put in pretty much any artist and you can listen to them. It's ad supported and some record labels are stingy and don't let you stream them but that's really really rare and it's still really cool that it comes integrated.
EDIT: Oh yeah, also what the above post said is true for some apps.
Yeah that sucks. I can't figure out how to do that for maps. In weather, though, if you right click anywhere and click places, you can add locations and set your home town as default.
You can. Start-I brings up settings in any app (or, like before, do the corner thing) and it gives you the options to add all your accounts. You can also do that in pictures
Same as last one. Once you've added your Google account to another app, it'll add it to all the built in apps, including calendar. I think it takes a while to sync but it'll get there.
It's pretty much all down to these fairly hidden bits of UI.
Essentially, you've got the charms menu to access settings, search and share (also devices but that's basically useless at the moment) Also, from settings you can get to power to turn it off and to the master volume controls. The point is you've got a collection of buttons that work in pretty much every app and are always in the same place as opposed to previously where you could have search and settings hidden away under drop down menus and crap like that.
When you're in any app (except the desktop) you can also right click (as long as its not over something that has a context menu) to bring up the extra options. In the browser, that's the address bar and the tabs. In most places it's just a bunch of extra buttons.
That's about all you need to know really and metro becomes a million times more useable.
Oh, another useful feature is side snap. In case you haven't heard of it, you can grab a metro app by clicking and holding from the top of the screen when it's open, pull it down and put it far on either side of the screen and it'll snap to the side. It's really useful when you're doing something on the desktop to have an app like music or messaging permanently attached to the side so you don't have to switch window or anything to get to it.
Holy fuck, ModernMix is amazing. This is the seamless Windows 8 experiance I was expecting. I wasn't really a fan of StarDock 8, I'm actually used to the new start menu, but being able to use metro apps from the desktop is simply amazing and soo much more convenient. I will probably even pay for it when the 30 day trial is over.
Seems like Stardock found something to earn money on =P

I've bought the hell out of it!
There's a couple of bugs. If you open a metro app that's currently open in metro from the desktop, it buggers up.
But it's sooo good! Microsoft really need to get on adding this in a way that's more elegant than a button in the corner.

Stuff
This helped allot, cheers.
Dont get whats wrong with good old ctrl+f though.
The metro apps in a Window isn't a bad idea, but it's so easy to implement there's guaranteed to be a free version somewhere soon. All you have to do is change the window style which isn't very difficult at all.
I used WinSpy to test it and you can drag around a metro app and resize it like any other window. They automatically resize the contents when the size is changed themselves.
Apperently google dropped support for EAS, and you can hardly add google accounts now.

No problem!
Ctrl F still exists purely as searching the page you're on. In a metro browser or a pdf reader, Ctrl F will still find a word on that particular page. The search charm searches all the files associated with that app. Using the same examples as before, you'll use it to find a web page in the browser or a pdf saved on your computer in the PDF reader.
In other words, Ctrl F searches what you're currently looking at, the search charm searches the entire app.

Oh right, I thought that hadn't gone through yet. That's shitty.
I remember Microsoft saying they were going to add support for open standards after Google first made that announcement, though, so it shouldn't last long.
The fix for lack of EAS is here:
