So 8.1's installer forces you to sign into an MS account, and I know later you can just disconnect the MS account but is there a way to simply not sign into it during the install? This is gonna make installing 8.1 on other people's PC's such a pain in the ass literally no one wants to do this.
Even worse, it locks you out of several apps (email, calendar, etc) unless you log in
It appears my stereoscopic 3-D got turned on after updating. Weird
Exact same happened to me.
Fairly easy to fix, but still a bit weird :v:

make a microsoft account>use existing account
no MS account required
Installed it on my Surface earlier today, works fine. Trying to download on my main desktop? 6% in about an hour.
getting a red tint over Netflix/games after moving to 8.1, yet I've triplechecked that stereoscopic 3D is disabled in my nvidia control panel
any ideas?

nevermind, seems to be fixed now
I love the new metro stuff I'm hardly using the desktop anymore.

happened the first restart for me too
idk weird little bug with color settings
Is brightness not working for anyone else? It doesn't seem to be responding for me.
All my OblyTiles got deleted after this update. Just a warning to those updating.
So far, the Reading List app looks like nothing more than a glorified bookmark app. Was hoping it'd save what you add to it for offline reading. That'd be really useful.
The new Start Screen seems a bit more useful, especially since you can tack on the tiny buttons now.
It's finally becoming a decent replacement for the Start Menu.

The new tile sizes are so much greater than they look at first blush

I guess this is as good as I'm going to get it.

Those tiles you used for office are horrid, upgrade to 8.1 and they look a lot better.

That is 8.1, the Office tiles didn't change.

Honestly when I was using 8.1 preview, they changed how Desktop tiles look and Obly is almost not needed anymore.
Also check your C:\Windows.old folder, they could be in there.
I'm actually getting pretty tired of the Xbox Music app. I want to like it a lot, but I can't when it says that a song(s) in my playlist are "not available in my device", yet when I search for it, I find it and I have to manually readd it. What the fuck.

I just re-installed Office. Those are clearly the Obly counterparts.
Yeah I don't want text.
Yeah I don't want text.
Then I personally would screenshot my Start Screen without the tiles, do a Photoshop and put a solid color over the text, then redo it in Oblytile. Honestly, the Office tiles look stretched and horrid, and things like the Chrome tile and BF3 look bad too. I don't understand the whole minimalistic idea for the Start Screen. It's a hub for information, why make it look bland and useless?
But that's all my opinion, and I shouldn't really tell you what to do.
I just use it for launching common applications really, 99% of my time is on the desktop.
And something tells me I will have to spend quite a lot of time on reconfiguring stuff.
Seems like I was right. Installing 8.1 broke gadgets, graphics drivers and my tiles created with OblyTile disappeared.
I'm gonna wait with installing 8.1 since I currently have critical work to do, and a fucked up workstation would be hell on earth right now. Gonna wait until the problems have resolved.
anyone getting some occasional network issues? (exclamation triangle on the PC network icon on the system tray)? I hope it's just my ISP doing maintainance and not some 8.1 issue
Looks like no win 8.1 for me.

Ah fuck the Windows 8.1 update installer isn't in the store. I think it's because Windows isn't at the latest version (I just installed clean Windows 8.0) but Windows Update is fucking up and not downloading updates.

Force it in Control Panel to check for updates.
Thank goodness they fixed the merged "documents" folder
Is it normal for Windows Defender to freeze the file explorer for a few seconds upon right clicking on a file/folder? It's been bugging me since many months and I'm starting to lose patience now.
If anyone is still interested, I've found a solution.
Using ShellExView, I've tried disabling various context menu extensions, and the one at fault was "AppShellPage Class" related to Bluetooth. As of now (and before installing 8.1), the problem does not exist anymore.

I've been having this issue and even after getting all the updates to install 8.1 just doesn't want to appear in the store.
