anyone getting some occasional network issues? (exclamation triangle on the PC network icon on the system tray)? I hope it's just my ISP doing maintainance and not some 8.1 issue
Windows 8.1 is turning out to be a driver trainwreck, I'm not sure what thev've done but they have destroyed the almost perfect driver support of 8.0.
Is it worth it to install 8.1 if you don't really use the metro stuff? I think if it's worth it that i'll wait for a while until they sort out the driver stuff..
Could someone explain to me how tiles are rearranged when moving them around? I drag a tile to move it and it shoves all the other ones aside in a completely random fashion.

And what's the quickest way to shut the computer down? Going from Start > Shutdown to Mouse-over-corner > Settings > Power > Shutdown is a bit of a nuisance to me.

Can you make it so they only slide to the side and just go to the next row if there isnt room? edit: wow automerge. Thanks for the help guys, didn't try out the new start menu yet because I have Start Menu 8 but it's pretty broken since the update so I'm thinking of ditching it and just sticking with "vanilla W8".
I don't think so, I had this problem too.
I think I figured it out. The tile groups are split into sub-groups of columns of 2. Tiles sort like you would expect in that sub-group but if you have more than one of these sub-groups then it does a fuck-knows-what swap of tiles. So to keep it from being stupid like that, just keep all your groups in 2 columns and make a new group when it gets larger than that.
hi hello does anyone know if the default libraries have CLSIDs?? i want to put the libraries in the my pc view, not the lordcrypto/documents folder [editline]18th October 2013[/editline] nevermind http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd378457(v=vs.85).aspx
I just got win8, after you get rid of as much metro as you can its not too bad. E: I transfered a bunch of my games over, how do I get windows to recognise them as being installed? I really don't want to have to manually go to program files every time i want to play a nonsteam game.
I'm getting the watermark on my laptop and it doesn't even support secure boot. It's plain UEFI and Windows still complains.
I also am getting this and I have no idea what to do. [editline]19th October 2013[/editline] Also, when I go into BIOS to enable Secure Boot, I get this on restart
Windows 8.1 doesn't fuck up the Intel IGPU 2 minutes after login like Windows 8 did. Thank god. I'm finally now on the latest and greatest software now!
I've realized it's a lot more convenient for me to have my laptop running as my desktop, so unless I'm playing stuff on Steam, I'll probably be using this setup a lot more often. Windows 8.1 is pretty cool, though, and a definite improvement from 8.
Okay holy shit, the minute after I posted that it did the black screen thing but came back 30 seconds later. #SPOOPY
And what's the quickest way to shut the computer down? Going from Start > Shutdown to Mouse-over-corner > Settings > Power > Shutdown is a bit of a nuisance to me.
You could also create a shutdown shortcut on your desktop to click on, to shut your computer off faster.
Yesterday I have been struggling for the entire day to get graphics drivers provided by HP to work. Many BSOD's, restarts, reinstalls and rollbacks later I just had had enough and went to bed. Today when I woke up I've started thinking outside the box, and, as it turned out, 13.9 Catalyst drivers, on which switchable graphics feature refused to work, are now working completely fine. Now I'm both glad and infuriated. I finally have gotten this thing finally sorted out and that there might be a possibility of using regular drivers instead of outdated HP ones, but I had to pay for this with a significant amount of time, even though this problem could have been solved really quickly.
Bad news for 8.1 upgraders. If you want to recover or refresh your 8.1 operating system you'll have to install 8.0 and follow the store upgrade every time. Windows doesn't want to provide 8.1 isos unless you buy them: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_install/will-windows-81-be-released-for-download-other/e0100d98-4c64-4e16-9cce-bb6b4b5d1eca?tab=question
Welp, managed to find 8.1 on the store. Had to reinstall KB2871389 update package.
I've tried this like ten times, why won't it work!
There's now about 4 updates which I'm assuming I'll need before Windwos 8.1 will install successfully (it starts downloading 8.1 from the store then failing every time) but when I try installing them it just hangs on 0%

Surely it doesn't revert from 8.1 to 8, that'd make zero sense.
What about the "refresh" option? Surely it doesn't revert from 8.1 to 8, that'd make zero sense.
That thing is slow as cock and should be never used, you can get a DreamSpark ISO somewhere and use your legit key to activate it if you want to format.
What about the "refresh" option? Surely it doesn't revert from 8.1 to 8, that'd make zero sense.
The refresh option only lets you use windows 8.1 media also.
