And what's the quickest way to shut the computer down? Going from Start > Shutdown to Mouse-over-corner > Settings > Power > Shutdown is a bit of a nuisance to me.
this'll sound like a snarky reply but I want to point out that computers have a power button. Pressing it isn't a hard shut off, the OS is smart enough to detect this and perform a normal shut down. You can also go into your power options (below) and tell your computer what exactly doing things like closing the lid to your laptop or pressing the power button actually does, from powering down to just going to sleep or hibernate or whatever

But that takes physical effort. :v:

Upgraded to 8.1 on my laptop over the weekend and everything worked great. Came back up to university today however and the wifi doesn't work on my laptop, but i'm using it fine on my phone and pc.
Tried some common methods of fixing it (from google) and they had no dice either.
ie. ran these in cmd
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
The networks screen will pick up the wifi connection but not actually connect to the internet. Any help?
So I upgraded to Windows 8 and all my apps were gone even though I remember it not doing so the last time I upgraded, and now I can't upgrade to Windows 8.1 because it's not in the store. Thanks Microsoft!

Oh wait all my shit was moved to Windows.old, pretty inconvenient but whatever.
On my Vaio Pro, I had to run a bunch of updates before running the upgrade, then I ran all the Windows 8.1 drivers available after the install. If I didn't install the 8.1 drivers and software, you couldn't wake the screen after it went black. It's just fine after I installed all the 8.1 drivers.
Lesson learned: Never import old hive registry files. I just did and now my whole Windows installation is toast.

This is the first time System Restore actually worked for me, holy shit.
I still can't update to Windows 8.1, it's still not in the store

You're not trying to upgrade a RT device, are you? Because they pulled that.
I cannot find out how to make my AMD Mobility Radeon drivers to work for the life of me. I have them installed and Switchable Graphics says that it's being used, but when I'm playing Dota or League, I get awful framerates as opposed to what I got on 7.
so Windows 8 Fast Startup (also known as Hybrid Boot outside of the GUI) creates an event viewer error "the system did not shutdown properly etc". Now if I disable this it's fine, but it is a kinda feature introduced to Windows 8 so it'd be nice if I could use it. I've had it off since a few weeks after Windows 8 launch because I didn't want to risk data loss from apparently not having a proper system shutdown. I now have Windows 8.1 installed and the issue is still there.
I wonder if it's a motherboard setting issue. My pagefile is not on my C/: drive could that somehow cause it?

Did you download the latest beta driver from amd?
Did you download the latest beta driver from amd?
No, the thing is, my HP laptop requires some ~special~ driver made for it only that enables Switchable Graphics. I tried the Catalyst Control Manager thing which installs the AMD driver, but nothing changed - still runs on the Intel IGPU.
Edit:
Oh wait wait, actually I did, but it claimed that it installed everything in 5 seconds, but it didn't install the actual driver I wanted... It said it installed CCC and the HD Audio, but no video driver. I guess the no driver meme lives on...

Nope, straight up Windows 8 Pro
So, after finally managing to upgrade to Windows 8.1, apparently my copy is now unactivated, and as if that wasn't enough, it doesn't seem to want to use my Key.
Bollocks.

is there a freephone number for microsoft support?
Does anyone have a solution to the mouse input lag? I play CS:GO competitively and it's making it hard to play as RawInput has smoothing, which isn't so great.

I keep hearing about this on OCN but usually only from the stereotypical overly mad and manchildish W8 haters who can't even form coherent sentences. I'm not doubting you btw, I just wish I could have more documentation on it cause I wanna look into it myself. I'm sure after a month plenty of comp players will have posted their workarounds, or maybe mouse driver software from Logitech, Razer, CM Storm etc will have a toggle option.

It's definitely a problem and I like windows 8. My sensitivity is cut in half, it's really strange.

I have no input lag, on my CSGO.
Raw input on, Mouse sensetivity of 3.0 and my G400 is running at 800 DPI with 1000 reports per second.
on my Mouse Properties i have the pointer speed on 6 and Enhance Pointer precision off.
I noticed some input lag when I was using 8.1... After using it and OS X simultaneously in a desktop environment, the input lag is exactly the same between them.
In that there's in-OS software mouse acceleration in both. And it drives me insane, but I'm slowly learning to cope.
Nevermind i had the precision on, turned it off now and had to put the speed down to 5 and ingame to 2.0

Pulled it? Why would they pull Windows 8.1 for Windows RT? That's the OS that needs it the most, imo. There's no reason to pull it. Where did you hear this from, and when did they pull it?

Raw input gets rid of the sensitivity cut in half thing, but it also adds smoothing and feels awful.

That's crazy that RT users are getting issues. I guess I'm lucky, though, nabbed the 8.1 update before they took it offline.
is there a way to disable the password on 8.1?
So am I right in saying that there's no way to revert to previous search behavior or remove the start button?
Kind of bummed, the awesome search was the main reason for me using Windows 8.
So is 8.1 still not out for Swedes? Cause I can't get it in the store.
I've recently upgraded to windows 8 this morning. I'm not seeing windows 8.1 in the store application, how do I fix this?
Is there any benefit to 8.1 if you don't use anything metro and already have an addon to give back the start button and boot to desktop?
