Is there any benefit to 8.1 if you don't use anything metro and already have an addon to give back the start button and boot to desktop?
Security and performance benefits you shouldn't neglect. Some changes to how libraries work as well (it's better now). Skydrive folders. Probably more as well. There are few reasons not to upgrade, especially once all the small glitches get sorted out. The upgrade should be fairly painless and quick.
So is 8.1 still not out for Swedes? Cause I can't get it in the store.
It got pulled from the Microsoft Store, because a "situation" prevented a "limited number of users" (aka everyone) from being able to upgrade successfully. The update is actualle damaging boot data, and those who tried to upgrade either had to reinstall, or restore from their "recovery image" :v:
Today downloaded the update. All seems well except I have to wait forever to install, and I am introduced with a black screen with a cursor. So I reboot again, and the wait is horrendous. Another reboot and 'ahaha' finally I thought windows 8.1 works, except I am greeted with a screen saying windows 8.1 install fail and revert back. Well at least I am back and not have to wait. Personally not installing 8.1 until Microsoft sort out this bullshit.

[editline]21st October 2013[/editline] After hearing all this shit, I am not really in updating yet, until this shit gets sorted out.
I've updated and almost everything seems fine, but now all of a sudden my phone can't connect as a storage device to my system. I've tried every driver I can get my hands on but 8.1 just wont recognise my phone properly anymore. Anyone else getting this problem with an Android phone? (mine's a Nexus 4).

Only problem I have with Windows 8.1 is that I can't figure out how to remove these dumb things: I have NO touch input devices connected and I cannot got rid of this. Suggestions?
You should NOT see "Android devices" at the top of Device Manager if you have USB debugging OFF. EDIT: Broke the automerge.

is it just me or is searching on the start screen painfully slow in 8.1?
is it just me or is searching on the start screen painfully slow in 8.1?
Nope, seems to be super fast for me (although I am on an SSD).
is it just me or is searching on the start screen painfully slow in 8.1?
It's slow for me, I don't have an SSD.

Luckily after doing a fresh format I just installed up to that update and then immediately went to 8.1. After finally getting everything installed, organized, and set up how I liked I must say I was quite pleased. Organizing the tiles and such to make things work better with my work flow has been fantastic. Plus, I like using the start button again, even if it just opens the metro menu. I suppose my only complaint with the entire OS is just how much it is trying to cater to Tablets/Touchscreen monitors. That's all fine, but I wish it didn't force you to be optimized for Touchscreens even if you don't have one. Other than that little gripe I love it. Win 8.0 was really wonky on my system which made me weary about going to an even newer and quite possibly unstable build. Surprisingly enough it's working much better than 8.0 ever had. For the longest time on Windows 8.0 if I Shut Down / Restart my PC it would often times take forever or stay in an almost near powered off state. The computer itself would be turned off but all of my fans were running and such. With 8.1 I'm not having any delays whatsoever; everything shuts down or restarts when I tell it; as I would expect out of using a Samsung 840 Pro SSD.
I remember reading a way where you could basically pair a windows phone via BT to the w8.1 computer and basically be able to stream or connect or do whatever wirelessly through it but I can't figure out how to do this. The only thing I can really do is connect to my w8.1 computer and then get the desktop to play WMP music from my phone and thats it after I did some pairing on the computer.

Looks like the Windows 8.1 upgrade murdered my Steam library and I've got to redownload them all. How I can't wait to download Team Fortress 2 again.

It was never terrible to begin with. Though I have to admit, with the facebook app, I'm pretty much exclusively using metro now for internet purposes. IE11 metro is a great browser.

Tek Syndicate is pretty terrible, even if they can be entertaining at times.

My bro works at Best Buy and they've been in the back for a week.
well my local best buy has an extreme volume of customers, so high it was one of the few places that had that E3 wii-u thing last summer. and since the PC section has microsoft store branding everywhere the pro 2 should be on display by tomorrow
Tek Syndicate is pretty terrible, even if they can be entertaining at times.
Most of their stuff is okay, but they talk WAY too much in "The Tek" episodes. Like, 40 minutes of talking is... eh... [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] Okay I gave the AMD beta drivers a go on my laptop. When it was installing the graphics driver, the screen turned blank so I waited like 10 minutes and just decided to give up there. Just a question: who thought it was a good idea to not let you uninstall drivers in Safe mode? Hurr Windows Insyaller can not be run in safe mode WHY OH WHY was this added? So I guess I'm screwed over now? I'm doing thr PC refresh thing in Startup repair but idk if itll fix the issue.
I DID IT. I FINALLY GOT THE DRIVERS TO WORK. HOLY. So, let me explain this in depth: Windows Update downloads the driver, but says it fails. I check Device Manager, and it claims the driver is working. It also says that CCC was installed at C:\Program Files\AMD for some reason. And guess what that CCC version does? IT WORKS! What did the CCC executables for my exact driver on AMD's site do? NOT WORK! (Black Screen) It doesn't do the black screen bullcrap, it just works. 120+ FPS on League at 1600x900 res + max everything. One of my happiest moments right here. Windows 7 got 59ish at 1600x900 res + medium everything. It's a fair comparison since I ran Ninite, installed AMD drivers and updates on both, and then tested league. So given that, 8.1 is here to stay on my machine, just gotta get my key in from Amazon any moment now...
Just installed Windows 8.1 on a spare notebook. Everything looks so blurry, it's not even funny.
Anyone else's Steam crashing when trying to install a game on Windows 8.1? Have you guys found any fix? :|
My windows 8.1 just had a hiccup. When i started the pc it was stuck on Please Wait. But i fixed by doing a hard reboot.
